Old Gaza explosion footage misused in posts about India-Pakistan
"India attacked Pakistan," reads the Thai-language caption of a May 7, 2025 Facebook post. The post includes footage of multiple nighttime explosions. The video bears the logo of Pakistani news outlet ARY News, which shared the clip on its page. The video was released by the Pakistani army's media wing to news outlets including AFP after the Indian strikes. The footage surfaced in other posts written in Thai, as well as Burmese, Hindi, Sinhala and English. Urdu-language TV channel 92 News and Thai PBS, Thailand's state broadcaster, also misrepresented the footage in reports about the conflict between India and Pakistan. Islamabad said 31 civilians were killed by Indian strikes and firing along the border. New Delhi said 13 civilians and a soldier had been killed by Pakistani fire. The video, however, is unrelated to the crisis. A reverse image search using keyframes led to an X post published by Al Jazeera Palestine on October 13, 2023 (archived link). Thai man arrested after faking story about pregnant wife buried in quake rubble
A man in Thailand has been arrested for falsely claiming he had a pregnant wife who was buried under the rubble of a building in Bangkok that collapsed during Friday's earthquake , Thai media reported. Advertisement Somnit Duangnet admitted to fabricating the story about his wife – who he claimed was four months pregnant – being trapped beneath the rubble of the under-construction State Audit Office building after police arrested him on Monday. Although he insisted he had no intention of deceiving the public, the police said they would take a hard line against him to deter others from exploiting the disaster. Somnit, who is in his early 50s, is believed to have received at least 10,000 baht (US$293) in donations, according to local broadcaster Thai PBS. In a trembling voice, he told reporters on Friday that his pregnant wife was buried under the building while holding up an employee card that belonged to a young woman. Signs of life under rubble of Bangkok skyscraper after earthquake
Rescue workers in Bangkok have found signs of life beneath the rubble of a high-rise building in Bangkok that collapsed due to a massive earthquake, Thai media reported on Saturday. Some 15 people are trapped under the debris in groups of three to seven, several media outlets reported, citing authorities. Rescue teams are trying to bring them water and food, said Suriyachai Rawiwan, director of the national disaster relief organization, according to radio station Thai PBS. But some of the survivors are trapped several metres below the surface. "We have about 72 hours to help them because that is the approximate time a person can survive without water and food," Rawiwan said. It is still unclear exactly how many people are buried under the remains of the 30-storey tower block, which was under construction when it collapsed on Friday after severe earthquakes hit the region. People are waiting outside the site for news of their relatives, but the police asked the public to avoid gathering at the building so as not to hinder rescue work which involves heavy equipment. The epicentre of the 7.7-magnitude quake was in Myanmar, where more than 1,000 people have died. In neighbouring Thailand, officials have so far confirmed a handful of deaths while more than 100 people are missing.

Scores dead, many missing as quakes rock Myanmar, Thailand
At least 25 people were killed in Myanmar and one in Thailand, while 43 others were missing after a skyscraper collapsed in Bangkok following a strong 7.7 magnitude earthquake with an epicentre in Myanmar's Sagaing region, said media reports. The midday temblor with an epicenter near Mandalay, Myanmar's second largest city, was followed by a strong 6.4 magnitude aftershock, reported BBC. Myanmar's military-run government declared a state of emergency in six regions and states including the capital Naypyitaw and Mandalay, but with the country in the midst of a prolonged bloody civil war it was not clear how help would get to many regions. The Red Cross said downed power lines are adding to challenges for their teams trying to reach Mandalay and Sagaing regions and southern Shan state. 'Initial reports from the ground suggest the earthquake has caused significant damage,' reported BBC citing the Red Cross. 'Information on humanitarian needs is still being gathered.' The first jolt was followed by a 6.4-magnitude earthquake 12 minutes later, according to the US Geological Survey on Friday. One person was killed, and 43 others were trapped in a high-rise building under construction in the Chatuchak district, Bangkok, Thai PBS reported. Thailand's Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said 90 people were missing and three are confirmed dead at the site where a high-rise building under construction collapsed. Wechayachai offered no more details about the ongoing rescue efforts but first responders said that seven people had been rescued so far from outside the collapsed building, reported the Associated Press. A dramatic video of the building's collapse near Bangkok's popular Chatuchak market circulated on social media showed the multi-story building with a crane on top toppling into a cloud of dust, while onlookers screamed and ran. Elsewhere, people in Bangkok evacuated from their buildings were cautioned to stay outside in case there were more aftershocks. The sound of sirens echoed throughout central Bangkok and vehicles filled the street, leaving some of the city's already congested streets gridlocked. The elevated rapid transit system and subway were shut down. City hall declared the city a disaster area to facilitate interagency aid and emergency help. The greater Bangkok area is home to more than 17 million people, many of whom live in high-rise apartments, said the AP report. April Kanichawanakul, who works in an office building in Bangkok's city center, at first didn't even realize it was an earthquake, the first she'd ever experienced. 'I just thought I was dizzy,' she said. She and her colleagues ran downstairs from the tenth floor of their building, Tonson Tower, and waited outside for a signal that it was safe to go back in, it added. In Myanmar, widespread distruction was reported by local media. A monastery in Taungoo City in Myanmar collapsed, killing five displaced children, reported Eleven Media Group. At least 20 people were killed as the quake hit Shwe Pho Shing Mosque in the Mandalay Region during Friday prayers, reported Khit Thit media. 'It collapsed while we were worshipping. About three mosques collapsed. There are people trapped. At least 20 people have died now. The death toll could be higher. The Shwe Pho Shing Mosque has also collapsed,' a rescue worker said. The historic Ava Bridge in Mandalay was also reported to have collapsed during the quake, while the historic Mandalay Palace was damaged. Thai authorities meanwhile declared Bangkok an 'emergency zone' following the quake, according to the Thai PBS News. The Stock Exchange of Thailand halted trading due to the earthquake, reported the Thai Enquirer.
