Collector expresses concern over growing number of school dropouts in Chittoor
District Collector Sumit Kumar expressed concern over the growing number of school dropouts despite the introduction of welfare benefits such as free books, uniforms, footwear, and even the Thalliki Vandanam scheme by the State government. 'Several children continue to leave schools and this malady should be addressed immediately,' he said. The Collector was addressing a review meeting with mandal education officers (MEOs) and cluster headmasters at the Collectorate here on Thursday. Sumit Kumar highlighted the imminent need to transform Chittoor into a district with zero dropouts and excellent academic standards. 'As many as 4,447 dropouts were identified this year. School headmasters must visit each child's home, offer a patient hearing to their challenges, and get them back to the classrooms,' he said. He also directed the teachers to 'adopt' dropout students, visit their homes at least five times, counsel the parents, and explain the benefits of education. 'The staff entrusted with the duty of bringing back school dropouts should track the students who studied in 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic year, and confirm they are continuing their studies in 2025–26. Those missing from the classrooms must be re‑enrolled,' Sumit Kumar said. 'Teachers of government schools are capable of imparting quality education to the students. They also hold the potential to address the learning gaps among their students,' he said, adding that this phenomenon helped the government schools in Chittoor district post remarkable improvement in the Class 10 results this year.

Response to ‘Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' positive, says Andhra Pradesh Labour Minister Subhash
Andhra Pradesh Labour Minister Vasamsetty Subhash has said that the government's 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' programme is receiving encouraging feedback from the people. Addressing the media at the State Secretariat on Wednesday, Mr. Subhash said that during his visit to nine constituencies under the programme, people widely appreciated the development and welfare initiatives of the NDA government. The State had attracted investments worth ₹6 lakh crore, laying the foundation for 10 lakh job opportunities, he said. Of this, ₹20,000 crore had already come through the IT sector, with a potential to create 50,000 jobs. He alleged that the opposition party leaders were deliberately trying to disrupt the progress. Mr. Subhash mentioned about the successful implementation of schemes such as MSME, aimed at nurturing entrepreneurs in every household, and P4, which supported economically weaker families. He also said that the government had laid pothole-free roads at a cost of ₹1,200 crore. Under the Thalliki Vandanam scheme, financial aid was being directly credited to the mothers' bank accounts. Pensions and ration cards were being distributed to all eligible citizens, he said. Refuting allegations of job scam at Amalapuram, Mr. Subhash said he had no links with the accused and urged stringent legal action against the culprits.

Legal action on liquor scam offenders: Gottipati
Ongole: Energy Minister Gottipati Ravikumar announced that legal action will be taken against those responsible for endangering public lives through spurious liquor sales during the previous YSRCP government's tenure. The Minister, along with the district collector A Thameem Ansariya, Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao, Santhanuthalapadu MLA BN Vijay Kumar, and others, participated in 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' in 36th Division, inaugurated and laid foundations for various sub-stations and development works with a budget of around Rs 19 crore, in Ongole on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Kumar strongly criticised the earlier YSRCP government for deceiving people with spurious liquor and endangering lives. He condemned the alleged massive public fund embezzlement without digital payments, warning that all liquor scam culprits, regardless of their status, would face action. He said that both the masterminds and participants in the liquor scam will not escape justice. Addressing concerns about smart meters, Minister Ravikumar clarified that these devices are being installed only for commercial and industrial establishments' needs, not for agricultural motors. He dismissed propaganda about higher bills due to smart meters as deliberate misinformation and assured government intervention to resolve any minor issues. He criticised the previous government for increasing electricity charges nine times, stating that the coalition government is now streamlining the chaotic power sector with Rs 6,000 crore allocated for addressing low voltage problems. The Minister accused YSRCP leaders of corrupting the education system by distributing substandard bags and books bearing Jagan Mohan Reddy's images. He praised Minister Lokesh's education system reforms and highlighted the coalition government's achievement of crediting Rs 10,000 crore in a single day under the Thalliki Vandanam scheme. Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao praised the substation project, stating that its completion would greatly benefit surrounding areas. He emphasised that villages within the municipal corporation limits would receive uninterrupted power supply, which would be highly beneficial for both residents and farmers. The MLA said that this infrastructure would serve not only agricultural needs but also become a crucial foundation for future industrial development in the region.

Jagan synonymous with vendetta politics, says Janardhan Reddy
Tirupati: Roads and buildings minister B C Janardhan Reddy slammed Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as the 'brand ambassador of vindictive politics,' stating that the former CM sees everything through a lens of revenge because he himself ruled with vengeance. Speaking to the media on Monday, Reddy said the people of Andhra Pradesh clearly know who resorted to political vendetta in the past five years. Referring to the demolition of Praja Vedika and Chandrababu Naidu's arrest, Reddy asked whether those weren't acts of political vengeance. 'Today, law is taking its course on the wrongdoings of the past. We exposed the liquor, land, and sand scams even before elections,' he said, accusing the YSRCP of looting thousands of crores, especially in the liquor scam. The minister said nearly Rs 4,000 crore was siphoned off under the previous regime and hinted that the investigation would soon reveal where the money went and who benefited. 'If the probe proves guilt, no matter how powerful, punishment is inevitable,' he added. Janardhan Reddy denied any personal vendetta in the ongoing probes, asserting that people voted the coalition to power for governance free of revenge politics. He criticised Jagan for predicting that the government would collapse in three years, questioning, 'Who is he to decide? People already dethroned him once. We have four more years to serve.' Listing the coalition government's initiatives, he mentioned the Super six schemes, increased pensions, Deepam, Thalliki Vandanam, and upcoming free bus travel for women. He also took a dig at YSRCP's electoral downfall: 'If Jagan's governance was great, why did they fall from 151 to 11 seats?' On the R&B front, the minister said the department was left in shambles by YSRCP, with 25,000 km of pothole-ridden roads, which the coalition repaired with Rs 1,200 crore. The government also cleared Rs 2,500 crore in dues left by the previous regime and is preparing DPRs for new roads. Responding to ex-MLA R K Roja's comments, he said criticism of women is unwelcome but reminded that Roja herself had used abusive language against opposition families while in power. City MLA Arani Srinivasulu accompanied the Minister during the interaction.
