Rust Shooting Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed Released From Prison

Originally appeared on E! Online Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is free. The 28-year-old—who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter over the 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins—was released from prison May 23, a New Mexico Corrections Department public information officer confirmed to NBC News. Gutierrez-Reed was discharged on dual supervision, meaning she is still serving a probation term and a parole term. In April 2024, Gutierrez-Reed was ordered to serve 18 months at a correctional facility after being found guilty by a New Mexico jury. A judge overseeing her sentencing said at the time that, as Rust's armorer, Gutierrez-Reed "turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon" when a live round was discharged from a prop gun held by Alec Baldwin. "I find that what you did constitutes a serious violent offense," the judge told Gutierrez-Reed. "You were the armorer, the one that stood between a safe weapon and a weapon that could kill someone." However, the case against the 67-year-old—who pleaded not guilty—was dismissed with prejudice in July 2024 after prosecutors were accused of hiding evidence. During Baldwin's trial, crime scene technician Marissa Poppell testified that former Arizona police officer Troy Teske—a friend of Gutierrez-Reed's father, veteran Hollywood armorer Thell Reed—had given her live rounds following Gutierrez-Reed's verdict that he believed were related to the Rust case. Poppell testified that she logged the ammunition under a different case number as a "supplemental report," but denied allegations from Baldwin's legal team that it was intentionally done so to bury it from the defense. Baldwin's attorneys said they were never informed of the ammunition Teske provided and argued that it would've been "favorable" to the 30 Rock alum's defense had they known of its existence. According to Baldwin's wife Hilaria Baldwin, the actor has experienced a "mental health decline" since the shooting. "He was diagnosed with PTSD," she shared in a February episode of The Baldwins, "and he says in his darkest moments, 'If an accident had to have happened this day, why am I still here? Why couldn't it have been me?'' For more on the tragic events that unfolded on the Rust set, keep reading. (E! and NBC News are both part of the NBCUniversal family.) Hilaria Baldwin 'was sure' husband Alec Baldwin 'was dead'

Hilaria Baldwin "was sure" her husband Alec Baldwin "was dead" when he suffered a terrifying health scare that left him unable to walk. The 67-year-old actor was battling "stress" in the aftermath of the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins - who lost her life in 2021 on the set of his movie 'Rust' when a prop gun discharged - and he was facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter related to the tragedy. Now his wife Hilaria has revealed her movie star husband's health went into decline several weeks before the charges were dropped in April 2023. In her book 'Manual Not Included', she wrote: "[He] became a totally different man [after the tragedy] ... "His hands became cold, and he could barely walk. I brought him to the emergency room. They did many tests. It was more stress, the doctors said ... It was like he was turning off." She went on to reveal Alec suffered a further scare a few days later and she rushed him to hospital. Hilaria explained: "[I] found him shaking, unable to stand up. He still refused to see the doctor, doing his best Alec-curmudgeon again to make me leave him alone ... "[As we arrived at the hospital he] slumped back, eyes rolling, mouth open ... "Mikey, our driver, ran inside the hospital to get help. I was sure Alec was dead. I thought I was going to vomit from feeling so helpless and heartbroken. How could this be happening?" She went on to reveal Alec stayed in hospital for a week and was unable to get around "without the help of a walker". Alec then had to go back to work to finish off 'Rust' and Hilaria explained they decided to keep his ill health a secret from the rest of the cast and crew - fitting him with an orthopedic boot so he could blame his mobility issues on an injury. Hilaria previously revealed Alec was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after he was charged. During an episode of the couple's reality show 'The Baldwins', she explained: "Everyone who is close to Alec has seen his mental health decline. "He was diagnosed with PTSD, and he says in his darkest moments, 'If an accident had to have happened this day, why am I still here? Why couldn't it have been me?'' Alec added in a confessional: 'This past year was just terrible. There were times I'd lay in bed. I'd go, 'Wow, my kids. I can't get up.' That's not like me. I'm not like that at all, not in any way am I like that. Never." The charges against the actor was dropped in April 2023, but he was indicted again in January 2024 and went on trial in July of that year. The trial collapsed after just three days and the charges against him were dismissed with prejudice.

Hilaria Baldwin loves to complain about the harsh spotlight of fame—even as she flogs her reality show and silly new memoir

Hilaria Baldwin is a mom of seven, a wife to Alec Baldwin, a limber yogi and a fake Spaniard. Now, with the release of her latest book, she's a two-time author — and an all-time attention hog. Part memoir, part self-help, but mostly self-pitying, 'Manual Not Included' is the book that no one asked for. And it acts as a companion to 'The Baldwins,' the TLC reality show that no one watched. That's a lot of spotlight for a couple who really just want to be left alone. Advertisement In between writing about her adventures in breast-feeding and how she moved away from 'gentle parenting,' Hilaria moans about the media's red-hot pursuit of the endlessly fascinating couple. 6 Hilaria Baldwin and husband Alec Baldwin at the opening of Planet Hollywood Times Square. WireImage The one-time 'Extra' correspondent claims to be completely unmoved by the idea of fame. Advertisement She benevolently writes in the intro how she doesn't 'blame those who gossip; I feel for them, because they are a product of a system that most of us play into. We fear that if we question the system, we will get hurt and be ostracized.' When she's not complaining about the intrusion into her privacy — while simultaneously begging us to come in — she's dropping inanities that made me wonder if Kamala Harris was her ghostwriter. 6 Hilaria Baldwin's new book, 'Manual Not Included,' is part memoir, part self-help and mostly self-pitying. 'I think there is a tendency for humans to reject the old and think that our contemporary world is the most evolved. It is probably why we constantly strive to grow and invent and change,' Hilaria writes in reference to nothing in particular. 'How humbling it is to think that we all just exist in a moment in time and what is ours and new will soon become old.' Advertisement Speaking of old, she writes about her 90something grandfather, who was a veteran. And straight. But 'he had one flag flying outside his home — the LGBTQIA+ flag. He wanted all to know that everyone was welcome and that straight men didn't have to be so insecure about their own sexuality.' Sure, lady. Then, there's the love story with her 26-years-older husband which, she claims, got her pegged as a gold digger. 6 Alec and Hilaria Baldwin in a scene from their TLC reality show, 'The Baldwins,' which reportedly drew ratings below the network's average viewership. TLC Advertisement 'No matter who dated Alec Baldwin, she was going to be picked apart,' she writes. But Hilaria was not picked apart. Doors were opened for her. She was given a gig with 'Extra' and regular appearances on morning and daytime TV. During which, no one even questioned her 'Spanish' background. People simply took her word for it. If anything, she was treated well and — as she loves to point out — as a good influence on her notoriously irascible husband. 6 Welcoming reality cameras into their home, Alec and Hilaria Baldwin talk with four of their kids. TLC The tide only turned in 2020, when a Twitter user revealed the truth: She wasn't Hilaria desde España. She was Hillary from Boston. The book finally explains it all. She has ADHD and dyslexia, you see, which accounts for her bizarre Spanish-ish accented English. 'Labels such as multicultural, multilingual, third-culture kids, culturally fluid, are attempts to capture what it is to belong and not to belong in a world that just wants to put every one in one simple box,' Hilaria writes. 'We often gravitate toward one another. We sound different because we naturally code switch between different languages and mannerisms.' Then, my favorite line of the book: 'I had a crash course in how some monolingual people really struggle with how I speak.' Advertisement 6 During this 'Today' cooking segment, Hilaria Baldwin claimed to forget the English word for cucumber. NBC Yes, the poor slobs who speak only one language are simply unable to grasp the singular gifts and enigmatic brain of the ever-versatile Hilaria. Perhaps this unique 'code switching' of which she writes skipped my bilingual family and all the others I grew up with. But thankfully, we don't know her pain. 'I've always wondered what it would be like to just belong,' she writes wistfully. 'My father called me once when I was going through a particularly hard time and said, 'I'm sorry I brought you up in such a complicated way.''She seems to forget that her well-deserved public ridicule stems from the fact that her own husband told David Letterman 'my wife is from Spain' — and at every turn, she's perpetuated this vague Iberian origin story to obscure the fact that she's a boring ol' Yankee. Advertisement She can't back out of the lie, so she's keeps offering absolute nonsense. Hoping the monolingual morons will think it's them, not her. 6 Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed during an accidental shooting by Alec Baldwin on the set of 'Rust.' Courtesy of Disney And what would a Hilaria Baldwin tell-all be without a dive into her family's side of the horrific accidental 'Rust' shooting that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead — and her continued reminders that her husband suffered too, physically and mentally. 'The tabloid media will likely create headlines from this chapter,' she writes. 'It's what they do. But I ask that we all have the decency to look beyond the headlines and remember what happened — someone died.' Advertisement Indeed, this did catch my eye. Because she's used it as fodder to film a reality show and write a self-serving book. And her constant public picking at scabs does no good for anyone's healing. Hilaria claims to not need anyone's approval, but begs for it at every turn.

Hilaria Baldwin sat on her bathroom floor crying and 'wanted to be dead' after accent criticism

She has opened up about the 'dark feelings' Hilaria Baldwin has confessed to having felt she 'wanted to be dead' amidst the backlash she experienced regarding her Spanish roots. The 41 year old yoga guru married film star Alec Baldwin, 67, in 2012 and was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Despite her US birthplace, Hilaria's upbringing involved spending numerous childhood days in Spain and growing up in a household where both English and Spanish were spoken, giving her fluency in both languages. ‌ However, when accusations surfaced that she was 'faking' her capacity to fluidly interchange between American English and Spanish, self-doubt about her own intelligence ensued. ‌ Comedian Amy Schumer's cutting remarks, featured in her Netflix show, did little but add salt to the wound, zeroing in on Hilaria's accent and even making quips about the growing Baldwin brood and their unique names. In her forthcoming book, 'Manual Not Included', she touches on this deeply personal struggle in an excerpt shared by People magazine, admitting: "Now, I know that it's ridiculous that anyone would feel outraged or amused because someone forgot a word. Can you be honest right now, reading this: Have you ever forgotten a word? But back then, I started to really unravel. I was confused.", reports the Irish Star. Hilaria Baldwin opened up about a tough period in her life, candidly sharing: "I felt lost. I missed my family. I couldn't eat. I got very thin. I started to question my sanity. I started to question if I was a good person. I returned to what I used to do as a child, and started to call myself stupid. When I woke up, I wanted to be dead. And I got worse and worse and worse." The star, who appeared on the reality show The Baldwins with her husband, showcasing their bustling household of children Carmen, 11, Rafael, nine, Leonardo, eight, Romeo, six, Eduardo and María Lucía, both four, and two year old Ilaria, described feeling overwhelmed during an emotionally raw moment. She recalled nights spent sitting on her bathroom floor, crying while talking to her brother. ‌ During these vulnerable conversations, Hilaria would break down and discuss her heartache over the controversy surrounding her cultural identity and accent. She recounted how she'd 'cry' to her brother on the phone about the ordeal, attributing the harsh focus on her to the ennui of pandemic lockdowns. She further elaborated: "I'd sit on my bathroom floor, nursing my baby Edu at 3 a.m., and speak to my brother in Spain, and I'd cry to him, nauseous about it all. He'd try to lighten things up by saying, 'Can we just stop for a second and talk about how nonsensical this is?'" "'You're speaking to me in Spain, where I've lived for most of my life, in Spanish, about the validity of our connection to Spain. No one is really offended -it's COVID, and they are home alone and bored, and there is so much misinformation.'" ‌ Hilaria candidly discussed her bilingual lifestyle in an episode of the reality series that aired on TLC and is now available for streaming on Max. Throughout the episode, she can be seen effortlessly transitioning between Spanish and English as she expresses her desire to maintain a bilingual environment at home. At one point, she shares with viewers: ""I want to teach my kids pride in speaking more than one language. I think just growing up and speaking two languages is extremely special. I love English, I also love Spanish, and when I mix the two it doesn't make me inauthentic, and when I mix the two, that makes me normal."
