Key Moments That Defined This Year's Emmy Nominees
On July 15th, the 2025 Emmy Award nominations were announced, and expectedly, we all were delighted AND surprised to see the outcome. Like really surprised. And like every award season, there are some major nominations that signify the greatness of actors and the art that is television and cinema. This nomination announcement did not disappoint (okay, maybe a little) with its results. These are the significant moments from the nomination announcement that we all should applaud and celebrate: Ayo Edebiri is the first female in Emmy history to be nominated as both an actor and a director for her work on The Bear. In 2023, Ayo won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for The Bear. She was nominated in 2024 for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy Series but lost to Hacks star Jean Smart. This year she is nominated again in the Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy Series category. And for the first time in her career, she is nominated for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series for her direction of the episode Napkins in The Bear. Kathy Bates has become the oldest woman in history to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the age of 77, for the show Matlock. As a decorated and celebrated actress and veteran of the industry, Kathy Bates has crossed several milestones, with this one adding to it. This nomination is very fitting, considering that she is planning to retire from acting after the show ends. Big ensemble cast shows Severance and The Studio lead the Emmy nominations. The two shows, both of Apple TV+, were the most-nominated TV shows for the 2025 Emmys. This also shows the shift of preference for streaming platforms, with Apple TV+, HBO Max, and Disney+ moving ahead of leads the race with 27 nominations, and The Studio with 23 nominations. And out of these nominations, 9 are for actors in Severance and 10 are for actors in the latter. This signals that guest stars and a known cast really racked up the views and popularity of the two shows, in addition to their scripts. HBO's The Pitt received 13 nominations, including Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Leading Actor, and is finally getting its due appreciation. These nominations are a major win for the show, but this signifies a bigger win for its creators. The show being a massive hit amongst fans is signaling the rise in appeal and appreciation for budget-friendly settings: the cast had a fixed fee per episode ranging from $35K to $50K, allowing for a modest budget of $4-5 million for each episode. The fixed fee is being picked up to adjust to larger episode drops and scheduling. Additionally, the strategy behind weekly episode drops to generate organic growth worked in the favor of the show, as it quickly became a fan favorite. And honestly, all of this recognition is much deserved! The notable nominations for the show are as follows: Noah Wyle for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Katherine LaNasa for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and The Pitt itself for Outstanding Drama Series, as well as two directing nods for Amanda Marsalis and John Wells for the 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. episodes. Harrison Ford, Aimee Lou Wood, Cooper Koch, Kristen Bell, and many others get their first acting Emmy nomination! Harrison Ford, the legendary actor, was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for the 2025 Emmys, marking his first-ever Emmy nod in his long and illustrious career. Similarly, Kristen Bell was nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for Nobody Wants This, Aimee Lou Wood for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The White Lotus, and Cooper Koch for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. This marks their first acting Emmy nomination. Owen Cooper, the breakout star in Netflix's successful show, Adolescence, becomes the youngest nominee in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series, making history! Owen Cooper has become a breakout star with this critically acclaimed show. Earning a nomination as his first-ever acting gig is a major win for the young actor! And if he were to win the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor, he would go on to become the youngest male winner in that category. Martin Scorsese, the legendary director behind Taxi Driver and many others, lands his first-ever Emmy nomination for the show The Studio. The director got the Emmy nod for his first foray into acting, for the "Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series," and it definitely was meaningful to him. Martin Scorsese's daughter posted the moment he found out about his nominatation, and it really was the sweetest thing to witness. Very wholesome. Besides these impressive moments, this year's nomination announcement also revealed some shocking snubs of beloved actors and shows, such as Patrick Schwarzenegger for The White Lotus. While the majority of the cast members of The White Lotus were included in the award race, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola, and Leslie Bibb didn't seem to make the cut. And given the high praise for Patrick in this season, this definitely was a letdown. Similarly, Elizabeth Moss was also snubbed for the last season of The Handmaid's Tale, where she had been nominated in the past for Outstanding Lead Actress four times, and even won once. Eddie Redmayne won a Golden Globe and a SAG award for his role in The Day Of The Jackal but missed an acting nomination at the Emmys. Similarly, Agatha All Along missed out on any acting nominations, the loved show Andor missed out in the acting category, and Squid Game season 2 had no nominations, a major shock compared to the run they had in season 1. These Emmy Award 2025 nominations stand out as a testament to the fact that we are having the best television run currently. While the snubs were definitely surprising, I could not be more excited to see what other works are underway and who ultimately will walk away with an Emmy. It's moments like these that make me a true cinema and TV fan. The 2025 Emmys will be broadcast on September 24.

'Sensational' sci-fi thriller now free to stream for the first time on ITVX
A selection of hit Disney Plus shows are now available for ITVX viewers to stream at no extra cost. In a 'first-of-its-kind' deal, the two streaming services are joining forces to share a curated and regularly refreshed selection of hit shows and movies across both platforms. This means that ITVX viewers will be introduced to a 'rotating rail' of Disney Plus content, titled 'Taste of Disney+', starting today, July 16. The selection over the coming months includes critically acclaimed and award-winning titles such as The Bear, Andor and Only Murders in the Building, as well as reality hits such as The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and The Kardashians. The Disney Plus titles available to stream will be regularly updated, but from today the following 12 titles will appear on ITVX under the title 'Taste of Disney+': Pam & Tommy The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (Season 1) Guardians of the Galaxy Tracker (Season 1) Star Wars: Andor (Season 1) Death and Other Details The Ashley Madison Affair Futurama (Season 11) Desperate Housewives (Season 1) National Treasure: Edge of History Atlanta (Season 1) Phineas and Ferb (Season 1) Andor returned to Disney Plus for a second season earlier this year, earning an impressive 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and hailed as the 'best TV series of 2025' by critics. The first season is now available to stream on ITVX for a limited time, and Metro's TV editor Sabrina Barr previously gave it five stars. 'For the past 12 episodes, Andor has gone above and beyond every single expectation, delivering not only one of the best productions in the franchise – filled with tension, clever calculation, political intrigue, fascinating subtext and sob-worthy moments – but also one of the best TV series of the year. Hands down. 'The season finale delivered a fitting end for what's been a truly sensational journey, one that will stay with us for a very long time.' Read Sabrina's full review of Andor Season 1. At the same time, Disney Plus customers in the UK will be able to stream some ITV content on the platform, under the banner 'Taste of ITVX', at no extra cost. This includes multi-award-winning drama Mr Bates vs the Post Office, espionage thriller A Spy Among Friends, reality hit Love Island and popular crime dramas like Endeavour, Vera and Karen Pirie. The new agreement builds on an existing relationship between the two platforms, with ITV already the free-to-air home of Disney Plus' Renegade Nell and the producer of hit show Rivals. Kevin Lygo, managing director of media and entertainment at ITV said: 'For us, this deal means even more great content for viewers on ITVX, and even more opportunity for viewers to find and enjoy our distinctive titles and services.' The move is part of a wider trend of collaboration between streamers and international broadcasters, in what has become a crowded field with the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and the BBC's iPlayer to name a few. Just last month, Netflix announced an agreement that gives subscribers in France direct access to TF1 channels via the streamer. Speaking to Broadcast, Disney Plus EMEA general manager Karl Holmes explained the mutual benefits of the content swap with ITV. More Trending He said: 'ITVX skews relatively old, and our heartland is under-55s. One of the challenges we have is that our brands are strong, but if you're older you think that Disney's about family and kids. 'At the same time, we get some of the UK's biggest shows to put in front of our audiences – which are less exposed to traditional free-to-air content. That's great for engagement.' Homes added: 'We would expect Disney+ to grow and have more subscribers as a consequence. We would also expect ITVX to be more successful.' View More » ITVX is free to watch in the UK, while ITVX Premium is available for viewers to watch ad-free for £5.99 per month. Disney Plus subscriptions start at £4.99 per month with ads. Martin Scorsese gets overwhelmed by his first Emmy nomination for acting; check his reaction
Martin Scorsese, who starred in the Apple TV+ show The Studio, has received his first Emmy nomination for acting at the age of 82. For his role, the legendary filmmaker has been nominated in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. This is a new achievement for the Oscar-winning director, who is best known for his work behind the camera. He is nominated alongside popular names like Jon Bernthal from The Bear. All other nominations, Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie and Scorsese, are from The Studio. Martin's youngest daughter, Francesca Scorsese, shared the special moment on Instagram Stories. She posted a photo showing her father getting emotional during a FaceTime call after hearing the news. Martin Scorsese's reaction after learning about his Emmy 2025 nomination. In one post, she decorated the nominees' list with confetti over his picture, writing, 'Our little actor'. She also tagged her father in the Instagram Story. Martin Scorsese appeared in the first episode of The Studio. The series takes a satirical look at the Hollywood studio system. It includes appearances by several big-name stars who appear as themselves. Such stars include Charlize Theron, Zac Efron and Ice Cube. In the show, Scorsese plays a funnier, exaggerated version of himself. In Episode 1 of The Studio, Matt Remick discovers that Martin Scorsese has written a serious script about the Jonestown massacre. However, he plans to use it as the Kool-Aid film instead. Matt pretends to buy Scorsese's script only to bury the project. At Charlize Theron's party, Matt tells Scorsese the truth. Although this is the first time he has received a nomination for acting, Scorsese has been nominated for an Emmy before. He previously won his first Emmy in 2011 for directing an episode of the drama Boardwalk Empire. In 2012, he won two more Emmys for directing and producing the documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World. The upcoming 2025 Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled for September 14.

Harrison Ford Lands Emmy Nomination for "Shrinking"
Yara Sameh Harrison Ford has landed his first ever Emmy nomination. The Hollywood legend reached the new milestone Tuesday, earning his first-ever nomination on Tuesday for his role in the Apple TV+ comedy 'Shrinking," in the category of best supporting actor in a comedy series. Ford will compete against Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo, Jeff Hiller, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Michael Urie, and Bowen Yang. He had been tipped to receive a nomination last year for the show's debut season but he was bested by The Bear's Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who won, and Lionel Boyce, Hack's Paul W. Downs, Only Murders In The Building's Paul Rudd, Abbott Elementary's Tyler James Williams, and SNL's Bowen Yang. Last year, the series scored an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nomination for Jason Segel and an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Jessica Williams. The "Star Wars" star also received a Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film nomination at this year's Golden Globes and a nom for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards but didn't win either. Ford stars as Paul Rhoades, well-known and experienced psychotherapist and Jimmy's (Jason Segel) mentor at their workplace. A bit of a curmudgeon who draws comparisons to Batman and more, Paul has a bit of his ego and can come off arrogant at times, but he cares for his patients and for the people in his life that he loves. Paul also has Parkinson's disease. "Shrinking" co-creators Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, who moved from behind the camera to guest-starring in Season 2 as a very notable role, Louis Winston, both have a 'deep history' with the illness as both of their fathers have been diagnosed with it. Lawrence also mentioned that his 'mentor' Michael J. Fox, influenced the portrayal of Parkinson's in the series. Fox has been cast in Season 3 of the comedy series. Apart from this arc for Paul Rhoades, he often finds himself placating Jimmy, who worries a lot about his patients and will bend over backwards to help them. Paul is big on boundaries, and he calls his home his 'fortress of solitude.' He also did secret 'chats' with Jimmy's daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) in Season 1 that Jimmy eventually found out about. Of course, they were mini therapy sessions. Ford hasn't made a great deal of television; he started his career with small roles on shows such as "Ironside," "The FBI," "Gunsmoke," and "Kung Fu" before moving on to movies. His first major role was in Paramount+'s "1923". He was Oscar-nominated for his leading role in the 1996 film "Witness". read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Colin Farrell, Sharon Horgan and Ruth Negga receive Emmy nominations as ‘Severance' leads the field
Horgan has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Bad Sisters. Farrell was the first name revealed for the Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for his performances in The Penguin. Negga has been nominated for her performances in Presumed Innocent in the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie category. Severance separated itself from the field with 27 nominations while The Studio led comedy nominees with a record-tying 23 in a dominant year for Apple TV+. No other dramas came close to the dystopian workplace series Severance, which achieved a convergence of acclaim and audience buzz for its second season that brought an expected Emmy bounty. Lead acting nominations came for Adam Scott and Britt Lower for what amounted to dual roles as their characters' 'innie' work selves and 'outie' home selves. Tramell Tillman got a supporting nod for playing their tone-shifting, pineapple-wielding supervisor, and Patricia Arquette was nominated for supporting actress for playing an ousted outcast from the sinister family business at the centre of the show. Ben Stiller got a directing nomination. Apple's Hollywood satire The Studio was expected to make a big showing for its first season, but it romped over more established shows like Hacks, which got 14, and The Bear, which got 13. And The Studio tied a record set by The Bear last year when it also got 23 nominations, the most ever for a comedy. The Studio co-creator Seth Rogen personally got three nominations — for acting, writing and directing. Its A-list roster of guest stars brought in a bounty, with nominations for Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Bryan Cranston, Anthony Mackie, Dave Franco and Zoe Kravitz. The men made for five of the six nominees in the guest actor in a comedy category. ADVERTISEMENT The Penguin, HBO's dark drama from the Batman universe, was also surprisingly dominant in the limited series category with 24 nominations, including nods for leads Farrell and Cristin Milioti. Netflix's acclaimed Adolescence got 13 limited series nominations, including a supporting actor nod for 15-year-old Owen Cooper, who plays a 13-year-old suspected of a killing. HBO's high-end soap The White Lotus got its usual flowering of drama acting nominations for its Thailand-set third season, with four cast members including Carrie Coon getting supporting actress nods, and three including Walton Goggins up for supporting actor. It was second in the drama categories to Severance with 23 nominations overall. 'The Pitt,' HBO Max's prestige medical procedural starring 'ER' veteran Noah Wyle, got 13 nominations, including best drama and best actor for its star, 'ER' veteran Noah Wyle. One of its nurses, Katherine LaNasa, was able to squeeze in among the women of 'The White Lotus' for a supporting actress nod. The Last of Us brought in 16 nominations in drama categories for HBO. The elite cable channel with its streaming counterpart HBO Max has been so prolific for decades in Emmy nominations that it almost felt like an off year without it having a Succession or a Game of Thrones atop the drama category. But it definitely wasn't. It led all outlets with 142 nominations, the most it's ever gotten. Netflix followed with 120 nominations overall, and Apple TV+ had 79. Wyle, who was nominated five times without a win for ER, could join Scott to make best actor in a drama a two-man race, with both seeking their first Emmy. Actors Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song announced the nominations in key categories. The nominees for best drama series are: Andor; Paradise; Severance; Slow Horses; The Diplomat; The Pitt, The Last of Us and The White Lotus. The nominees for best comedy series are: Hacks; The Bear; The Studio; Only Murders in the Building; Abbott Elementary; Nobody Wants This; Shrinking and What We Do in the Shadows. The nominees for outstanding limited series are: Adolescence; Black Mirror; Dying For Sex; Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story and The Penguin. The nominees for best comedy actor are: Seth Rogen, 'The Studio'; Martin Short, 'Only Murders in the Building'; Jeremy Allen-White, 'The Bear'; Adam Brody, 'Nobody Wants This'; Jason Segel, 'Shrinking.' The nominees for best comedy actress are: Uzo Aduba, 'The Residence'; Kristen Bell, 'Nobody Wants This'; Quinta Brunson, 'Abbott Elementary'; Jean Smart, 'Hacks'; Ayo Edibiri, 'The Bear.' 'Severance' has become a signature show for Apple TV+. The streamer has gotten plenty of Emmy nominations for dramas including 'The Morning Show' and 'Slow Horses,' and 'Ted Lasso' was downright dominant on the comedy side. But Apple has lacked the kind of breakaway prestige drama that HBO seems to produce perennially. That could change when the Emmys are handed out in September. 'Severance' got 14 nominations for its first season in 2023, but won just two, for its music and its title sequence. All the shows are living in the splintered world of the streaming era, and the like the Oscars its most acclaimed nominees rarely have the huge audience they once did. While an impressive average of 10 million people per episode watched Wyle on 'The Pitt' at some point on HBO Max, according to Warner Bros. Discovery, 30 years ago an average of 30 million sat down on the same night and watched him on 'ER' on NBC. Kathy Bates' best actress nomination for playing the title role in CBS's 'Matlock' made for a rare exception to streamers' dominance over broadcast networks. The Oscar-winning Bates is considered the front-runner to get the Emmy. She was the first person nominated in the category from a network show since 2019, and would be the first to win it since 2015. ABC's 'Abbott Elementary' has been keeping hope alive for broadcasters in recent years. It got six nods this year, including best actress in a comedy for creator Quinta Brunson, who also got a writing nomination. CBS will air the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on September 14. Nate Bargatze is slated to host.
