Netflix drops first look at new mystery thriller series — and it sounds like 'You' but with roles reversed
Netflix is giving thriller fans something to sink their teeth into this fall. The streaming service recently dropped first-look images and confirmed a November 13, 2025 release date for 'The Beast in Me,' a dark mystery thriller that already sounds like a compelling binge-watch. As someone who can't resist a character drama disguised as a twisty mystery thriller, I've already marked this one on my watchlist. Starring Emmy-award winners Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys, the series delves into the complex lives of its lead characters. Danes plays a reclusive author grappling with grief and writer's block after the tragic death of her young son. Her world is turned upside down when a charismatic real estate mogul, played by Rhys, once suspected in his wife's disappearance, moves in next door. If you've watched Netflix's 'You' and loved the tense, cat-and-mouse dynamic, 'The Beast in Me' looks like it offers a similar vibe but with the roles reversed. Instead of a charming but dangerous man infiltrating a woman's life, it's the reclusive author who becomes obsessed with her enigmatic new neighbor. From the first-look images shared by Netflix Tudum, we get a peek at the lineup of characters: Danes looking particularly distressed with blood on her face, Rhys walking down a darkly lit street, and other cast members, including Brittany Snow, David Lyons, and Natalie Morales. Netflix hasn't released a trailer yet, but between the star power of Danes and Rhys and the captivating premise, 'The Beast in Me' is already shaping up to be a must-watch thriller this fall. So, if a dark, twisty mystery is right up your alley, here's everything you need to know about 'The Beast in Me' before it premieres on Netflix this November. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Along with the release date and first-look images, we also have a longer synopsis: 'Since the tragic death of her young son, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes) has receded from public life, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. 'But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys), a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife's disappearance. At once horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth – chasing his demons while fleeing her own – in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly.' The eight-episode thriller is the brainchild of creator Gabe Rotter. Executive producers include writer Daniel Pearle, director Antonio Campos, Jodie Foster, Caroline Baron, as well as Conan O'Brien, Jeff Ross, and David Kissinger for Conaco. Showrunner and executive producer Howard Gordon told Tudum: 'I've always appreciated Matthew's work, but seeing him with Claire on our first Zoom made me especially excited that he's agreed to play Nile.' Reflecting on their work together, Rhys says, 'In that moment, I realized that this whole experience was a relationship between two people that was going to be incredibly muscular, challenging, athletic, invigorating, exciting.' Danes adds, 'It was just effortless, playing with Matthew. You can serve anything, and he'll serve it right back in a direction that you can't quite anticipate.' (h/t Vanity Fair). The rest of the cast includes Tim Guinee, Hettienne Park, Jonathan Banks, Deirdre O'Connell, Aleyse Shannon, Will Brill, Kate Burton, Bill Irwin, Amir Arison, and Julie Ann Emery. Some high-end TV dramas thrive purely on the thrill of watching two powerhouse actors go head-to-head, often with deadly tension thrown into the mix. That seems to be exactly the case with Netflix's 'The Beast in Me.' I'm particularly excited to see Danes and Rhys as neighbors whose fraught relationship looks like it could keep you fully engaged in the drama. And with any tense thriller where two flawed characters secretly observe each other from afar, you can expect plenty of twists to upend your expectations. For anyone still craving the twisted suspense of 'You,' this new series could be just what you need. Plus, as an eight-episode limited series, 'The Beast in Me' sounds perfect for a binge-watch. If Netflix pulls it off, this thriller could easily become one of the standout series of the fall. You can stream 'The Beast in Me' on Netflix starting November 13. Brittany Snow: I don't think I've made it in Hollywood
Brittany Snow still doesn't feel like she's "made it" in Hollywood. The 39-year-old actress has enjoyed a hugely successful career, starring in films such as The Pacifier, John Tucker Must Die, Hairspray and the Pitch Perfect franchise - but Brittany thinks she still has something to prove. She explained to People: "I don't think I've made it. "It's always a struggle. I'm always wondering what my next job is going to be or if going to 'make it,' in a way. I think that's the same for every actor — unless you're Tom Cruise or something." Brittany drew inspiration from other actresses during her younger years. She said: "I've been around since people were kids, so they grew up with me as I was growing up. "I know with the people who influenced me the most, growing up, and the actresses that I looked up to, I do feel like I know them. And when I meet them, they mean more to me than anything because they showed me what it was like to be a woman." Brittany admits to feeling particularly inspired by Claire Danes, her The Beast in Me co-star. The actress explained: "Working with Claire was probably one of the most fan-girl encounters that I've had in a long time, because I grew up with My So-Called Life. "I grew up with Romeo + Juliet, Little Women. I wanted to be Claire Danes. So, getting to work opposite of her and becoming friends with her was such an honour for me. She's always been someone I greatly admire, not only for her acting, but also for how she keeps her private life sacred." Brittany's attitude towards career success has evolved over time, and she still relishes what she does. The movie star said: "I think my idea of success when I was younger was this sort of one-track mind of needing to be Julia Roberts because as a ten-year-old girl, everyone wants to be Julia Roberts. "I think as I've gotten older, I've realised that there's so many different forms of success. Success, to me, is the fact that I'm still doing this, and I love it even more now. I remind myself all the time that I didn't give up."

'MobLand' stars Pierce Brosnan and Anson Boon tease what the future might hold for their characters after season 1 finale
Pierce Brosnan and Anson Boon share their thoughts on what they hope the future might hold for their MobLand characters. The two performers also share their differing takes on who really runs the Harrigan empire. With the finale setting up fresh threats for a potential second season, Brosnan and Boon speculate on who among their criminal clan they should fear article contains spoilers for season 1, episode 10, "The Beast in Me." Following 10 episodes filled with butchered body parts, booby-trapped cars, and more corpses than you can shake a buzzing chainsaw at, it's a little surprising both Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan) and his grandson/son Eddie (Anson Boon) survived MobLand's entire first season unscathed. But like any good crime family worth its weight in cement shoes, the Harrigans aren't wasting time counting their lucky stars, but are anxiously moving onto their next big score. With that in mind, Entertainment Weekly spoke with both Brosnan and Boon about what the future might hold for their characters, who the most dangerous member of their dysfunctional clan is, and, most importantly, who really wears the pants in the Harrigan household. Addressing that latter query, specifically whether Conrad truly believes he is in charge over his his wife Maeve (Helen Mirren), Bronson quickly sets the record straight: "Yes, of course he does." But he also stresses there's much more to the Conrad-Maeve dynamic than a simple pecking order. "It's kind of a malevolent, merry dance that they've played all their lives. They both have a passionate lust for the dangers of life, and they repeat the same toxic dance that has now reached a point that it's out of control." He continues, "But he trusts no one, and he certainly doesn't trust her. He may say that he does…but he loves her. They love each other." While Boon credits Conrad with being as "successful" as he is "formidable," his character's unique relationship with the family matriarch ultimately sees him placing her at the top of the Harrigan hierarchy. "She's really stirring the pot, and Eddie is the only one who's given a front-row seat into the inner workings of what she's doing. Maeve is absolutely pulling the strings and twisting this family at every turn." Maeve's powerful position – coupled with Eddie learning she's not actually his grandmother in the finale – also makes her one of the series' scariest characters, according to Boon. "He's related to her in the same way that Seraphina [Mandeep Dhillon] is, and look how she treats Seraphina. So what is she gonna do to Eddie? Does he continue to trust her or not?" Given Maeve and Conrad's quite different, though equally complex, relationship, Bronson sees his on-screen wife as less of a threat than his conniving offspring. "They're all time bombs waiting to go off. Kevin, [Paddy Considine's] character…he's got so much venom in him, so much hate. I think Anson is pretty lethal, pretty badass. But they're all ruled by hate, self-loathing, narcissistic, mangled lives." As Boon points out, Harry (Tom Hardy) also has Eddie's number, a fact that could see him looking over his shoulder as he claws his way up the crime family's food chain. "I think it really scares him in that scene, when [Harry] confronts Eddie about him sleeping with Gina. That one little line that he gives at the end, where he says, 'Yeah, you're gonna run this family one day. And when you're on that cliff, I'll be right next to you and I'm gonna push you off,' That's more terrifying than any punch ever could have been, so I think at that moment he's most scared of Harry." Torn between who future-Eddie should fear most, Boon continues with a chuckle, "But then the level of confusion he has towards Maeve when he finds out he's not related to her, but she says they're gonna be the king and the queen…I think that is absolutely terrifying as well. It will be interesting to see what decisions he makes." Of course, fans will need to wait for a yet-to-be-announced second season to find out who'll be gunning for who. If a follow-up season plays out anything like the first blood-soaked batch of episodes, Brosnan believes no one is safe. "You never knew where it was going. Near the end, we were just waiting for the scripts to come in. They would come in really close to the wire, so it was always a surprise to see who was still in the picture." The actor has no insight into possible future storylines – or violent exits – but won't rule out Conrad occupying a body bag. "I think it's entirely possible," he says with a laugh. But based on Conrad's crotch-grabbing, season-capping strut, Bronson believes his character is looking toward a brighter outcome. "The future is golden for him. He's gonna get out of prison and hunt down the little s—bags who did him injustice." Boon's character's future is more uncertain, especially seeing as Eddie disappeared from the Harrigan safe house around the finale's midpoint. But the actor has an idea of what he hoped happened to him after almost murdering his mum. "What he needs to do is go for a long walk in that forest, while he's working his way away from the safe house, and just clear his head and try to work out his next move. Is he gonna trust Maeve, like he has done for the whole of his life?" Regardless of what Conrad and Eddie's futures hold – and who they should fear most – Brosnan enthusiastically replies, "100 percent, absolutely!" when asked if he'd be game for reprising his role for a second season. "It's so much fun," he says. "It allows you to play so many different levels." And speaking collectively for the cast, he concludes – like a true Harrigan – "I think everyone's in it for the crack, as they say in Ireland!" Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly
