'Players are not happy': Dallas Stars coach Pete DeBoer under fire after pulling out Jake Oettinger in Game 5 loss

The Dallas Stars faced a devastating loss against the Edmonton Oilers in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Final and lost their entry to the Stanley Cup Finals. But now, it seems like the Dallas Stars' head coach, Pete DeBoer, has run into trouble after he made a controversial move of pulling out the team's goaltender, Jake Oettinger. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Dallas Stars' coach, Pete DeBoer, has made players uncomfortable with his controversial decision in Game 5 against the Edmonton Oilers Recently, NHL insider and The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta made a post on what has been happening behind the scenes. David Pagnotta's recent post on X reads as, 'Noise out of Dallas re: Pete DeBoer. Per multiple sources, players are not pleased with how he handled several situations during the WCF, along with post Gm5 & exit media remarks. Told players voiced concerns during internal exit interviews. DeBoer has 1yr left on his contract' and fans agree with this take. A fan commented, 'Should be fired just based on pulling Oettinger so dam early in a do or die match', while another fan wrote, 'Knew I wasn't the only one that wasn't a fan of DeBoer. How he treated Otter was unacceptable.' A third fan posted, 'This was my first thought after the missteps from DeBoer. Players are not going to like the way he went about this, and I think it'll be difficult for them to move past that', while another user wrote, 'don't mess with my goalie also applies to the head coach.' A fifth fan noted, 'DeBoer was already on the hot seat before the Oettinger comments - that was just a desperation play. Still hard to grasp what he was thinking, though. If he stays, the room resents him. If he's fired, future teams & players will remember how he threw his goalie under the bus.' For the unversed, a few days ago, in Game 5 against the Edmonton Oilers, Jake Oettinger was pulled out of the game just minutes into the first round. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Jake Oettinger even spoke about it after the game and said, 'I wasn't expecting that to happen. It was surprising. But the reality is, if I make one or two of those saves, I'd still (be playing) in the game.' An official confirmation about Pete DeBoer's situation with the team is awaited. Also Read:

Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner could be looking at a major move this summer. While no trade has been made yet, new reports suggest that Marner is considering a few teams. Fans are now wondering what this means for his future in Toronto. The buzz is growing day by day. Mitch Marner is looking at new teams including Vegas and Los Angeles O n May 31, 2025, NHL insider Dave Pagnotta shared an important update about Mitch Marner on The Fourth Period. He reported that Marner has made a list of seven or eight teams that he would be willing to join if the Maple Leafs decide to trade him. The two top teams on this list are the Vegas Golden Knights and the Los Angeles Kings. According to Pagnotta, 'Marner has his eye on some strong markets, and both Vegas and LA are near the top.' He mentioned that these cities offer big fan bases, great team structure, and the kind of spotlight Marner may enjoy. Marner has one year left on his current contract with Toronto. He also holds a no-movement clause, which means the team needs his approval before any trade. His cap hit is $10.9 million, which makes things tricky, but many clubs are still interested. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Also Read: Mitch Marner Prepares To Leave Toronto With List Of Preferred NHL Teams: Report San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Anaheim Ducks are preparing large offers Besides the two top teams Marner prefers, other teams are also getting ready. Vladislav Gavrikov faces uncertain future as Kings new GM Ken Holland takes charge: Report

Vladislav Gavrikov faces uncertain future as Kings new GM Ken Holland takes charge: Report (Image Source: Getty Images) Kings' future is in doubt as he is marching towards free agency on July 1. The rugged Russian defenseman is poised to sign a significant new contract, and new general manager Ken Holland has to decide if he wants to retain him. With Rob Blake absent and Holland now running the show, the Kings are starting a new era. But retaining Gavrikov, one of their most consistent players, could be one of Holland's largest challenges this offseason. Ken Holland must make crucial Vladislav Gavrikov decision big pay increase The Los Angeles Kings are undergoing transformation. General manager Rob Blake, who preceded him, was ousted after a string of failed playoff campaigns particularly against the Edmonton Oilers. Ken Holland is now in charge, and one of his first big assignments is deciding what to do with defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. Vladislav Gavrikov joined the Kings from the Columbus Blue Jackets and emerged as a valuable contributor to the team. The 29-year-old defenseman last year registered five goals and 25 assists for 30 points. More importantly, he was a steady presence at defense and was instrumental in defending his own team's zone. Re-signing Vladislav Gavrikov is a priority, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports. But it will cost them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Her body cannot endure this level of pain; please help her. Donate For Health Learn More Undo Vladislav Gavrikov makes $5.875 million annually now, but his next deal may cost more than $7 million per year. That would be quite a raise and the Kings must determine whether they can afford it. Also Read: As The Los Angeles Kings Set The Early Tone In The 2025 NHL Playoffs, Connor McDavid And Leon Draisaitl Remain Under Pressure A long-term deal could keep Vladislav Gavrikov and Jordan Spence together One reason the Kings would prefer to keep Vladislav Gavrikov is that he is paired with young defenseman Jordan Spence. The two have formed a solid twosome on the blue line, and Spence is a promising young star in the making. He's signed for the 2026–27 season, and Holland would like to maintain the twosome so that he can build a solid defensive foundation in the future. Pagnotta believes the Kings might give Gavrikov a five- to seven-year contract. A lengthy deal would provide the team with stability, but the financial burden may be the issue. Holland is new to his position and most probably will want to make sound financial decisions, not necessarily large ones. Still, letting Vladislav Gavrikov walk could weaken the Kings' defense and hurt their playoff chances. Whether Holland agrees to a big raise or finds a different solution, Gavrikov's future will be one of the team's most important decisions this offseason. NHL Trade Rumors: Ottawa Senators eye Aaron Ekblad as top defensive target amid Nick Jensen injury concerns

Senators shift offseason focus to Aaron Ekblad (Image via AP) The Ottawa Senators are heading into a pivotal offseason with a clear priority—bolstering their defense. With Nick Jensen's injury casting doubt over his availability, the team is now targeting elite right-shot defenseman Aaron Ekblad as a potential game-changing acquisition. Senators shift offseason focus to blue line with $60 million defenseman Aaron Ekblad at the top of their wishlist The Ottawa Senators are expected to be aggressive this offseason as they look to solidify their defensive core—particularly on the right side. With veteran defenseman Nick Jensen undergoing surgery earlier this week for an undisclosed lower-body injury, the team's search for a reliable right-shot defenseman has taken center stage. While Jensen hopes to return by training camp, the uncertainty surrounding his recovery has left Ottawa little choice but to explore other options. Enter Aaron Ekblad. According to NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Senators have set their sights on the Florida Panthers' star defenseman, who is set to hit the open market as a pending unrestricted free agent. Ekblad is wrapping up an eight-year, $60 million deal and is widely considered the top right-shot defenseman available this offseason. As Pagnotta notes, 'Everybody is looking for that kind of defenseman. If you have them, you want to keep them, and if you're looking for one, they're hard to find.' That scarcity is precisely why the Senators are pushing to land someone of Ekblad's caliber. Senators also exploring trade routes for right-side defensive help While Ekblad remains the prime free-agent target, the Senators are also reportedly monitoring trade options. Among those linked to Ottawa are Calgary's Rasmus Andersson and Philadelphia's Rasmus Ristolainen—both of whom could provide the right-handed depth Ottawa seeks if Florida retains Ekblad or another team swoops in first. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Citizen has speculated that Jensen's injury could be related to his hip or knee, although the team has yet to provide specifics. What's clear, however, is that the Senators cannot afford to start the 2025–26 season short-staffed on defense—especially alongside cornerstone blue liner Thomas Chabot. As another league executive told the Citizen, 'If they're going to get one, they're going to have to play a heavy price.' With a premium on right-shot defensemen and Ottawa's urgent need, this summer could prove pivotal for the franchise's future. Brad Shaw Swaps Philadelphia Flyers for Big Division Rival: Report

According to a report Wednesday, former Philadelphia Flyers interim head coach Brad Shaw has picked his next coaching destination in the NHL. And he's not going very far. Per David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Shaw, 61, has latched on with big Metropolitan Division rivals, the New Jersey Devils, replacing the recently fired Ryan McGill as part of Sheldon Keefe's coaching staff. Keefe, who played for fired former Flyers head coach John Tortorella during his time in Tampa Bay, also played for Shaw early in his playing career. Shaw was Keefe's head coach on the Detroit Vipers in the 2000-01 season, and later coached Keefe as an assistant on the AHL Springfield Falcons the following year in 2001-02. As someone who has played for and coached against Shaw, Keefe knows exactly what he's getting and what he wants from Shaw, and now it will be the Flyers' loss. Flyers GM Danny Briere had told reporters during Friday's Rick Tocchet press conference that Shaw was a finalist for the head coach position in Philadelphia and was considered until the final moments. Shaw, however, pulled out of the running to be an assistant on Tocchet's coaching staff, citing a lack of investment in the interview process. If and when Shaw's hiring is officially confirmed by the Devils, he'll join a New Jersey organization that already boasts defense talents with NHL seasoning like Simon Nemec and Seamus Casey. Plus, 2024 first-round pick Anton Silayev will be next to make the leap from that pipeline.
