With decades filled with hit songs and historical Canadian firsts, Cummings, 77, has seen it all. Keeping Canadiana spirit in full force, performing Runnin' Back To Saskatoon (co-written with Kurt Winter), was a perfect inclusion. Article content Off the stage, one of his biggest achievements is his ever-growing MP3 collection, staggering in scope. Article content 'The minute CDs were invented, I was a happy guy and I went and got a whole half a dozen iPods and loaded them with all my favourite stuff because I fly all the time … so I've worked on my library now for 40 years and I can say this very honestly, I have way more documented music than any radio station in the world — anywhere. I'm very happy about this at my age.' Article content Article content A Few Good Moments also reveals a bookend to his life. Cummings shot the cover photo. Article content 'It was 1970. The big clock you see I bought on tour in the Maritimes, I think Halifax. The small clock was my mother's alarm clock through her whole entire adult life. The watch in the middle — I got for being on The Dating Game and not getting picked — so there you go.' Article content 'In the 1960s, there was nothing for pop music on television other than maybe the Ed Sullivan Show. You'd see somebody lip sync one big record for three minutes. When the Dating Game approached us (The Guess Who) they said, look, Burton is still single. The other three guys were all married. They said if you let Burton be bachelor No. 3, we will let you guys open the show lip syncing a song. So in 1969 that was a big deal to get on national television — and we lip synced Undun.

'Takin' Care of Business' Bachman-Turner Overdrive new music On March 28, 2025, BTO dropped their first single in nearly 30 years. The nearly four-minute barroom rocker — appropriately dubbed '60 Years Ago' — name checks Canadian rock heroes Burton Cummings, Buffalo Springfield, The Guess Who and more. As an added bonus, the raucous ditty features a scorching guitar solo courtesy of The Godfather of Grunge himself, Mr. Neil Young. The song may be a last gasp for the aging rockers but also serves as proof positive that they still have gas left in the tank. If you'd like to hear the rallying cry of a tune for yourself, you can find '60 Years Ago' here. More about Bachman-Turner Overdrive In May 2024, The Post spoke with Randy Bachman about the origins of their classic 'Takin' Care Of Business,' new music and career highlights. 'One night I'm driving to a gig in Vancouver and a guy comes on the radio station. He says 'Hi, this is Daryl B and we're taking care of business,'' the 81-year-old told us about how the iconic tune came to be. Bachman wrote the title down and made the band play the song on the spot — unprepared and unrehearsed (!) — that night. Yes, the memorable call and response 'Takin' care of business/Every day/Takin' care of business/Every way/Takin' care of business/It's all mine/Takin' care of business/And workin' over time' was improvised. 'The crowd went crazy,' Bachman smiled. 'We recorded it two weeks later and that's what you hear.' For more stories like these, you can find our interview with Bachman here. 'I can't be a second-rate Guess Who': Randy Bachman on starting Brave Belt and BTO

For more than 60 years, Canadian rock and roll legend Randy Bachman has been takin' care of business and working overtime. Starting out in Winnipeg with just a dream and a guitar, Bachman co-founded not one but two of the most successful rock bands to come out of this country: The Guess Who and Bachman–Turner Overdrive. Now, at 81, Bachman is looking back on his incredible life in music with a new BTO single, 60 Years Ago. In an interview with Q 's Tom Power, the guitarist and singer reflects on what happened after he left The Guess Who in 1970, immediately following the release of their biggest hit, American Woman. WATCH | Randy Bachman's full interview with Tom Power: "I was branded as an idiot in Winnipeg and in the press," Bachman says about his departure. "I got slammed in Rolling Stone and Creem and all the magazines at the time. [They said] that I was thrown out of the band because I was too straight. So I'm bent on proving you can make it without being bent or drugged or whatever." Bachman says his divisive relationship with his bandmates was more like a fraternal dispute. "You don't hate him, because you're brothers, but you have this thing you never get over." Starting over on his own, Bachman wanted to prove the critics wrong and find success in a new group — but he knew he didn't want it to be compared to The Guess Who. "I'm in Winnipeg with no band," he recalls. "I'm going crazy, I want to do something…. I can't be a second-rate Guess Who. I can't match Burton Cummings's voice. What I do is start over and do something different." Turning to country rock music, Bachman founded his next band, Brave Belt, with some help from fellow Canadian music legend Neil Young. "Neil said, 'This is really great. I'll set you up with Mo Ostin,'" Bachman says. "So I fly to L.A. and I meet Mo Ostin [at Reprise Records] … and Neil gets me a record deal there." Watch or listen to the full interview with Bachman to find out how he ended up founding BTO after Brave Belt eventually got dropped by its label.
