"Game of Thrones" Spinoff "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" Shifts Premiere Window

Yara Sameh 'Game of Thrones' fans will have to wait a while longer to head back to Westeros, as the premiere of the new spinoff series 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' has now been slated for 2026. While no official premiere date was ever set, Warner Bros. Discovery execs had previously said that the series, the second HBO prequel to 'Game of Thrones' following 'House of the Dragon,' would air by the end of 2025. On Wednesday, the news of the show's push to 2026 was revealed via a first look at the 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' trailer that was shown during WBD's upfront presentation to advertisers at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The title card at the end of the footage said '2026,' but HBO content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys narrowed that down further on stage by saying the show was coming in the 'winter' when he cued up the teaser, indicating an early 2026 release. HBO has not announced a premiere window for the third season of 'House of the Dragon,' which is currently in production and has been confirmed as the penultimate in a four-season run. 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' is adapted from George R.R. Martin's novella 'The Hedge Knight,' and will follow the exploits of the knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), roughly 100 years before the events of 'Game of Thrones' and 100 years after the events of 'House of the Dragon.' Dunk and Egg's journey will take them to a competition in which they encounter several members of the Targaryen dynasty — including Prince Aerion Targaryen (Finn Bennett), Prince Baelor Targaryen (Bertie Carvel) and Prince Maekar Targaryen (Sam Spruell) — along with another knight known as the Laughing Storm, Ser Lyonel Baratheon (Daniel Ings), and a puppeteer named Tanselle (Tanzyn Crawford). The full logline for the series reads: 'A century before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.' 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' is written and executive produced by Martin and Ira Parker ('The Sympathizer,' 'House of the Dragon'). Ryan Condal (the showrunner and co-creator of HBO's 'House of the Dragon'), Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw are executive producing. Sarah Adina Smith ('Lessons In Chemistry,' 'Hanna') will direct three of the six episodes for Season 1; executive producer Harris will direct the other three episodes. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War

New "Game of Thrones" Spin-Off in Works

HBO has confirmed it is developing another "Game of Thrones" spin-off series following the success of "House of the Dragon". Season two of "House of the Dragon" ended in August and despite leaving fans and critics disappointed with its low-key finale, season three is already in production. "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", another spin-off is set to be released in late 2025. The series is based on George RR Martin's novella "The Hedge Knight" and stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan 'Dunk' the Tal. The book is the first in the "Dunk and Egg" series, with subsequent novellas "The Sworn Sword" and "The Mystery Knight" also set to be adapted for following seasons. HBO is clearly happy to keep diving back into the Game of Thrones well as the network's Head of Drama Series and Films, Francesca Orsi, has revealed that another series is in the works. Speaking to Deadline, Orsi said: 'We have other spinoffs that we're working on right now, one of which - which I won't get into - is very promising, and it is still the Targaryen line.' 'There's a number of other spinoffs, we can't really guarantee what's going to go forward, but we are very big budget on the other ones. I would say this [A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms] is the most intimate one," she added. House Targaryen was at the centre of House of the Dragon where the family had united the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros under one ruler.

House Targaryen was at the centre of House of the Dragon where the family had united the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros under one ruler. Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin has been vocal about his criticism of House of the Dragon claiming that changes made to the storyline from his original books served to 'weaken' the show. The author added that there could be 'larger and more toxic' changes planned for seasons three and four of the fantasy show. Martin, though, has praised A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms having already watched all six episodes. In a blog post, the 76-year-old wrote: 'Ira [Parker, showrunner] and his team wrapped the first season months ago, and moved right on to post-production,' the author wrote. 'I've seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favourites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. 'The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm. and Tanselle Too-Tall.'

George RR Martin shares verdict on new Game of Thrones prequel series

Games of Thrones creator George RR Martin has shared his opinion on the forthcoming prequel series. Season one of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan 'Dunk' the Tall, is based on Martin 's novella The Hedge Knight. The book is the first in the Dunk and Egg series, with subsequent novellas The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight also set to be adapted for following seasons. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to arrive in late 2025, and takes place between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. Writing on his Not a Blog page, Martin revealed he's watched all six episodes of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. 'Ira [Parker, showrunner] and his team wrapped the first season months ago, and moved right on to post production,' the author wrote. 'I've seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favourites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. 'The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm. and Tanselle Too-Tall.' Martin continued: ' A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS is an adaptation of The Hedge Knight, the first of the novellas I wrote about them. It's as faithful as adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject).' Last May, Martin shared an impassioned blog post claiming Hollywood screenwriters almost always make source texts worse when adapting them to screen. 'No matter how major a writer it is, no matter how great the book, there always seems to be someone on hand who thinks he can do better, eager to take the story and 'improve' on it,' he said. 'They never make it better, though. Nine hundred ninety-nine times out of a thousand, they make it worse.' A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms started filming in Belfast last June, with a teaser trailer released by Max two months later. Along with Claffey, the series will also star Dexter Sol Ansell as his squire Egg. Finn Barnett (True Detective: Night Country) is set to play Aerion Targaryen, the cruel and arrogant son of the stern Maekar Targaryan, who is being portrayed by Sam Spruell (Fargo), an actor well-known for his villainous roles. Max's official logline reads: 'A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. 'Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.'
