Man arrested for allegedly throwing bottle at SMRT bus, injuring passenger
SINGAPORE: A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly throwing a glass bottle at a moving SMRT bus, causing a window to shatter and injuring a female passenger. Police said they received a call for assistance on 5 July 2025 at about 6.50pm along Orchard Road. Preliminary investigations found that the man allegedly threw the bottle from a pedestrian walkway at the passing bus. According to Lianhe Zaobao, the incident resulted in a 57-year-old passenger being injured when the upper-deck window shattered. She was conscious when taken to Raffles Hospital for treatment. The bus was travelling along Orchard Road past The Heeren shopping mall at the time of the incident, according to user '是cc啊' on social media platform Xiaohongshu. A hole reportedly appeared suddenly in the bus window, which was visibly cracked from the impact. Vincent Gay, Deputy Managing Director of SMRT Buses, confirmed the object was a bottle and the affected bus was operating on service 190. The driver stopped the bus to ensure commuter safety. Passengers were transferred to another bus to continue their journey. Tanglin Police Division officers identified and arrested the man on 8 July. An 18-year-old who was with him is assisting with investigations. The suspect is expected to be charged in court on 9 July with the offence of rash act causing hurt.

Bottle thrown at SMRT double-decker bus along Singapore's Orchard Road injures passenger, police investigating
SINGAPORE, July 6 — A 57-year-old woman was taken to hospital in Singapore after a bottle was thrown at a SMRT double-decker bus travelling along Orchard Road yesterday evening, shattering a window and leaving a gaping hole. Singapore media reported that the incident occurred at around 6.45pm near The Heeren shopping mall while the service 190 bus was heading down the busy retail stretch. SMRT Buses deputy managing director Vincent Gay confirmed the incident to Mothership, saying a member of the public allegedly hurled a bottle at the upper deck of the bus, causing a fist-sized hole and cracks in the window panel. The bus driver stopped immediately to check on passengers and ensure their safety. The injured commuter was conscious when taken to Raffles Hospital, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force. The remaining passengers were transferred to another bus to continue their journey. Images circulating on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu show extensive damage to the window and blood stains near the bus door. In response to media queries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed its officers were alerted to the incident at about 6.50pm and that investigations are ongoing. SMRT also said it is cooperating fully with authorities.

Accounting for the extravagant price tag are luxurious ingredients such as abalone, fish maw, dried scallops, sea cucumber and shark's fin - in a rich double-boiled chicken and pork broth - all loaded into the fluffy bun. An alternative version - sans shark's fin - at the same price can be ordered to suit dietary preferences. More of the other ingredients will be added instead. Each giant longevity bun, which can generously serve eight to 10 people, takes about two hours for the chefs to prepare and assemble. Limited to eight orders daily, it is available for dine-in only at all Peach Garden outlets including The Heeren, Chinatown Point and Thomson Plaza. Advance orders are required. Readers of The Straits Times can get a 30 per cent discount on the bun when they present a photo of the online or print version of this article at the outlets, till June 30. First launched for Mother's Day, the hefty Buddha Jumps Over The Wall longevity bun received 'overwhelming response' from customers, with more than 50 sold across the outlets, says Peach Garden's marketing communications manager Samantha Yap. The bun will continue to be available after June 30, but at its original price of $1,688++. Ms Yap says: 'The giant longevity bun was conceptualised as a modern tribute to traditional Chinese birthday celebrations. We wanted something symbolic, festive and visually stunning - a centrepiece that represents blessings, abundance and togetherness. 'The size and ingredients reflect a sense of grandeur, making it perfect for milestone occasions.'
