Winners of the The Hindu Margazhi Music Contest 2025 felicitated

Several winners of The Hindu Margazhi Music Contest 2025 were felicitated here on Friday. This year's contest saw nearly 1,500 entries. Carnatic and Hindustani music practitioners in three categories - children (below 12 years), juniors (13-19 years), and seniors (20-40 years) sent video recordings of their performances. Suresh Nambath, Editor, The Hindu, and L.V. Navaneeth, CEO, The Hindu Group, gave away the prizes to the winners. Varalakshmi Anandkumar, senior musician, guru, and French professor, said, the participants performed meticulously. 'There was so much effort, not just in learning the song and delivering it but the presentation as well. And with every video that we were listening to, we were thinking of the hopes and the hard work, not only of the child, but also of the parents and gurus. So, we felt doubly responsible for giving our best. There was such a volume of excellent, exquisite music,' she said. M. Nandhini, violin vidhushi and guru (of the Violin Sisters—M Lalitha and M Nandhini) thanked The Hindu for organising the competition every year and giving a platform to many youngsters. It gives them motivation to succeed in their chosen art form, when they are given a platform. 'Every year we find that the numbers of the participants swelling. The standard of music is always going up and this is a wonderful trend,' she added. V. Vetriselvakkumar, Chief General Manager (Corporate Communications), Indian Oil Corporation Limited Southern Region (who are co-sponsors for the event), said that it was always a pleasure to join hands with The Hindu. The Margazhi Music Competition, which encourages young talent, was started during the pandemic, and it has come to stay. With every passing year, the number of participants has been increasing. Indian Oil wishes the winners all the very best. Disha Muralidharan (first prize, thukkada vocal-child), Atchayaharini Bharanidharan (first prize, krithi vocal-senior), Ramcharan K (first prize, krithi vocal-junior), Haripriya .N (first prize, krithi instrumental-junior), Niveditha Arun Arun (first prize, krithi instrumental-senior), Vrusha Arvind (second prize, thukkada vocal-child), Mahathi Karthik Narayanan (second prize, krithi vocal-child), Ayushmaan Sairam (second prize, percussion instrumental-child), Keerthana (second prize, thukkada vocal-senior), Bhargavi Ramakrishnan (second prize, thukkada instrumental-child). The Hindu Group made an impact at the Abby Awards 2025, securing accolades across multiple categories that recognise excellence in publishing, content creation, and sustainability. The innovative branded content project 'The Interface' by The Hindu won the bronze award under the category 'Best Use of Native or Branded Content for Client Brand-Marketing by a Publisher'. This project, crafted in collaboration with AMD, was a weekly podcast series that delves into the dynamic technological landscape, offering expert insights and diverse perspectives to deepen listeners' understanding of the technology shaping the future. The Hindu executed this project along with ThinkROI. The Group's city campaign 'Made of Chennai' won silver award for 'Best Marketing of a Printed Newspaper/Edition' under the Publisher Abby category. The campaign successfully deepened local engagement, celebrating the spirit, stories, and people of Chennai through print and on-ground activities. In addition, The Hindu's campaign for World Wildlife Day titled 'The Last Pack' earned a merit position under the Green Awards category. The approach was to offer a glimpse into a possible future, one where readers may no longer be able to enjoy their morning coffee, biriyani made with basmati rice, their favourite evening potato chip snack or beat the summer with a sip of mango juice – because someday, it may be their last pack. With key personalities such as Kiran Bedi, former Lieutenant-Governor of Pondicherry; Supriya Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary, Climate Change and Forests, Tamil Nadu; and Arun Krishnamurthy, founder, Environmentalist Foundation of India, talking about the issue, the campaign highlighted the urgent need for wildlife preservation.

'Made of Chennai' (MoC), The Hindu Group's flagship initiative, made an impressive mark at the prestigious International News Media Association (INMA) Global Media Awards, bagging top honours across multiple categories. The Hindu also shared a first-place global win alongside VG, Norway. The MoC campaign, which marked Chennai's 385th birthday, was conceived as a vibrant 40-day celebration of the city's rich heritage and contemporary pulse. It won first place in two categories: Best Brand Awareness and Best Idea to Encourage Reader Engagement. MoC's 'Moonlight Cinema' secured second place in the 'Best Use of an Event to Build a News Brand' category, while the campaign video – 'Life in a Day in Chennai' – featuring a unique split-screen cinematographic treatment, won second place for 'Best New Video Product or Feature'. The MoC campaign also won third place in the 'Best Use of Print' category. Furthermore, 'Fostering Engagement: A Year-long Multifaceted Approach at The Hindu Young World' won third place at the Global Media Awards in the 'Best Initiative to Bolster Next-Generation Readership' category. MoC stood out for its immersive blend of music, art, cinema, cuisine, and civic pride initiatives, drawing citizens into a shared narrative of urban identity and progress. Conducted in collaboration with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP), Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), and the Namma Marina initiative, MoC featured impactful events such as a two-day food and music festival, music shows in parks, beachside cinema screenings, and an archival photo exhibition in metro stations. L.V. Navaneeth, Chief Executive Officer of The Hindu Group, said, 'Our projects are a reflection of the deep connection we share with the city and its people. Former president and prime minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe has mooted the idea of India taking a lead in ensuring the emergence of South Asia as the 'most powerful region'. Participating in a session titled 'In the hood: The new forces shaping subcontinental geopolitics' at the fifth edition of The Hindu Huddle organised by The Hindu Group, in Bengaluru, Mr. Wickremesinghe observed that the South Asian region would account for a population size of 2.7 billion in the total world population of 9.8 billion while its combined economy would be around 43 billion dollars. T. S. Tirumurti, former permanent representative of India to the United Nations, said India should take a geopolitical role that goes beyond the sub-continent. The sooner we do it, he said, the more important it will be. The session was hosted by Suhasini Haidar, The Hindu's Diplomatic Affairs editor. The evolution of work in a fast changing globe was discussed at length during a lively session at The Hindu Huddle on Saturday. Aptly titled 'Let's Talk Work' and moderated by L.V. Navaneeth, CEO, The Hindu Group, the freewheeling chat dealt with the multifaceted challenges that modern offices and employees face. First up, the elephant in the room, the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), was discussed, and K. Ganesh, serial entrepreneur and partner, GrowthStory, said: 'AI was transformative as creation became possible. Then you had autonomous agents in AI doing work without human prompting.' Adding heft to the conversation, Suparna Mitra, CEO of the Watches and Wearables Division of Titan Company Limited, said: 'We are all on the cusp of a very big change. People joining in their early twenties are not looking at staying long in a company. And then you have machines doing work but it needs human intervention. For a lot of people, AI may be ChatGPT but surely it can play a bigger role in manufacturing.' Striking a blow for gender equity, she added: 'Women have a lot of other things going on in their life, which is not accounted for in workplace design. And at home care-work is not paid, house-work is not paid. Women do dual roles of being at the workplace and also working at home.' The concept of customer delight was analysed too when Hemant Malik, Wholetime Director, Divisional Chief Executive - Foods, ITC, said: 'All of us do work from the customer perspective; can you make it cheaper and faster? There is also the personalisation aspect. Are you being transparent, are you giving the customer new experiences' Who thought 10-minute delivery was so important till it started?' 'How we sell matters as much as how much we sell. To me transparency is our best tool and if breeds accountability. Employee requirements are changing, let's just listen and learn. As for AI, it is used in radiology, surgeries and many facets of medical care,' he said. The tussle between traditional businesses and modern offshoots, climate change and the way it impacts production, storage and employee productivity, were all looked into at a granular level. The gig economy driven by food and grocery delivery firms and the way they have changed, was also spoken about. And as the session drew to a close, the final summary was that change will be a constant at work and both employers and employees have to learn constantly while also harnessing technology.
