There's one number Aaron Rodgers unlikely to wear with Steelers
It's doubtful that Aaron Rodgers will don the No. 12 as a member of the Steelers. Although not officially taken out of use, the Steelers have unofficially retired No. 12 for legendary quarterback Terry Bradshaw, with no other Pittsburgh players wearing it since 1983. Based on Bradshaw's recent comments about Rodgers, who agreed to a one-year deal with Pittsburgh on Thursday, it is unlikely that he will lend the number to Pittsburgh's newest quarterback. Getty Images Last month, Bradshaw was brutally honest about his thoughts on Rodgers' drawn-out free agency process with the Steelers, saying how the entire courtship was 'a joke.' 'That's a joke. That to me is just a joke,' Bradshaw said during an appearance on 103.7 The Buzz. 'What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there.' Advertisement Bradshaw, 76, spent the entirety of his 14-year NFL career in Pittsburgh, winning four Super Bowls. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989. Rodgers, 41, has reportedly told the Steelers that he intends to fly to Pittsburgh to sign a one-year deal on Friday so he can participate in mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, ending his monthslong free agency affair. 3 Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw passes the ball. The 10-time Pro-Bowler revealed one of the reasons behind the length of his free agency was that someone close to him was diagnosed with cancer on 'The Joe Rogan Podcast' last month. 'I've been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,' Rodgers told Rogan. 3 Aaron Rodgers reacts on the field during the first quarter of the Jets' win over the Dolphins on Jan. 5, 2025. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Advertisement Rodgers also opened up about the process on 'The Pat McAfee Show' in April, saying then that he was even consisering retirement. 'I'm in a different phase of my life,' Rodgers said then. 'I'm 41 years old, I'm in a serious relationship. I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments that I've made, not knowing what my future was going to look like after last year, that are important to me. … I have a couple of people in my inner circle who are really battling some difficult stuff. 'So I have a lot of things that have taken my attention and have beginning in January away from football. That's been where I've been focusing most of my attention on.'

Tired of the drama? Steelers QB drops truth bomb on Aaron Rodgers drama, says "There's been constant noise"
Mason Rudolph remains focused amid Aaron Rodgers rumors, embracing his role as Steelers' QB1 while Pittsburgh weighs its quarterback options. (Getty Images) The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to be linked to Aaron Rodgers, but as the months drag on with no deal, one man has remained unfazed—Mason Rudolph. The veteran quarterback has embraced the uncertainty surrounding the team's signal-caller situation, quietly going about his business during offseason workouts and keeping his focus on what he can control. Mason Rudolph keeps his cool as Steelers' Aaron Rodgers pursuit drags on While the buzz around Rodgers possibly landing in Pittsburgh has been swirling for quite some time, no firm commitment has come from the four-time MVP. The Steelers, meanwhile, still have three quarterbacks on the roster—Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard—none of whom are seen as long-term threats within the fiercely competitive AFC North. Despite the persistent speculation, Rudolph has taken a mature and level-headed approach. 'That's nothing new to me. There's been constant noise,' Rudolph shared via 'That is the nature of the NFL. So I am used to that for a long time. Now I'm doing nothing but being the best I can be to help our team get better this spring.' His mindset reflects a player who's not only seasoned but also grounded. At 28, Rudolph knows how quickly the narrative can shift in the NFL. So I've learned to adapt to both, but it's obviously good to be wanted.' Rodgers, meanwhile, has kept fans and franchises guessing. In April, during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, he referenced personal matters involving people close to him. Then earlier this month on The Joe Rogan Podcast, he revealed someone in his inner circle is battling cancer—an emotional backdrop that may be influencing his hesitation about returning to the field. With Justin Fields and Russell Wilson now out of the picture, the Steelers are facing the reality of starting their fourth quarterback in three seasons. While Rodgers remains the prized target, the clock is ticking. If Pittsburgh decides to pivot, Kirk Cousins—currently with the Falcons—is reportedly being considered as a backup plan, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. For now, Rudolph is taking snaps as QB1 during OTAs, keeping his head down and eyes forward. His calm demeanor and loyalty to the franchise give the Steelers a steady presence amid the swirling storm of offseason rumors. Steelers QB speaks out on ‘constant noise' with Aaron Rodgers decision looming
Mason Rudolph isn't fazed by the Aaron Rodgers-Steelers rumors. The veteran signal-caller is serving as the Steelers' QB1 during OTAs despite it being assumed he'll be the backup once the 2025 NFL season rolls around. 'That's nothing new to me. There's been constant noise,' Rudolph said when asked about Rodgers. 'That is the nature of the NFL. So I am used to that for a long time. Now I'm doing nothing but being the best I can be to help our team get better this spring.' Advertisement Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph throws a pass during NFL football practice in Pittsburgh, Tuesday, May 27, 2025. AP Rodgers has been flirting with going to Pittsburgh for months after a disappointing two-year tenure with the Jets. In April, Rodgers said that people in his inner circle were dealing with 'difficult stuff' on 'The Pat McAfee Show,' leading to him holding off on a decision on his football future. Advertisement During a conversation on 'The Joe Rogan Podcast' earlier this month, Rodgers revealed that someone near him is dealing with cancer. No matter how the rest of the offseason plays out, Rudolph appears to be happy to return to the team that drafted him on a two-year, $7.5 million deal in March. Rudolph spent the first six seasons of his career in Pittsburgh after being selected in the third round of the 2018 draft before signing with the Titans for the 2024 season. If Rodgers opts to retire or Steelers brass runs out of patience for the future Hall of Famer, the franchise could look at acquiring Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is on the team's radar as a potential 'Plan B,' according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Aaron Rodgers drops massive hint that he's going to sign with the Steelers
NFL fans are months into Aaron Rodgers' dalliance with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and there's still been no clarity on whether the quarterback will sign with the team. A resolution could finally be coming soon, however, as Rodgers dropped a major hint about his intentions during a Q&A on Saturday. While attending an event hosted by rapper Mike Stud, Rodgers was asked whether he would ever consider playing for the Chicago Bears. Rodgers quickly said "no" before implying that he would visit the team as an opposing player in 2025. "No, but I believe there's a team that might play in Chicago this year," Rodgers said. "On a road trip. I don't know. Not sure." It was a cryptic answer until fans realized the Steelers play the Bears in Soldier Field in Week 12. While some fans thought maybe Rodgers could be referring to the New Orleans Saints, who also play the Bears on the road and need a quarterback after Derek Carr retired, Rodgers told fans he didn't want to live in Louisiana. That leaves the Steelers, who have been the most aggressive team pursuing the veteran quarterback. Rodgers met with the team back in March and threw to newly acquired receiver DK Metcalf shortly after that meeting. Steelers owner Art Rooney II said Thursday the team was willing to wait "a little while longer" for Rodgers to make a decision. Rodgers' answer Saturday seems to suggest he's already made up his mind. It's tough to read Rodgers' answer any other way. Why mention that an unrelated team is playing the Bears on a road trip during a question about whether he would play for the Bears? The whole thing seemed like a major hint that Rodgers expected to play the Bears at Soldier Field in 2025. While fans can do a team-by-team breakdown of the Bears' home-game opponents, the only one still heavily rumored to be in on Rodgers is the Steelers. Rodgers, 41, is looking for a bounce-back season after throwing 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions with the New York Jets last year. While those numbers look solid on the surface, the team went 5-12 and struggled on offense. The Jets responded by signing Justin Fields to a two-year deal and letting Rodgers walk. Despite being connected to the Steelers for months, Rodgers still hasn't signed with the club. During an appearance on "The Joe Rogan Podcast" on Thursday, Rodgers revealed there are people close to him dealing with cancer, which might be delaying his decision. Rodgers made similar comments during an appearance on Pat McAfee's show in April. Once Rodgers is ready to fully focus on football, it sure sounds like the Steelers are going to be his landing spot.

Aaron Rodgers drops biggest Steelers hint yet in long free agency saga
Aaron Rodgers dropped a hint about his NFL future last weekend. During a live interview with rapper Mike Stud, the former Jets quarterback fielded a question from a young football fan in the crowd on whether he'd ever play for the Bears. And his answer was telling. 'No, but I believe there's a team that might play in Chicago this year for a road trip,' Rodgers said. Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers speaks to the media after practice in Florham Park, NJ. Bill Kostroun/New York Post Unsurprisingly, Rodgers stopped short of naming the team when asked to be more specific. 'I don't know, I'm not sure, I'm going to check it out,' Rodgers said with a smile. Another fan asked the 41-year-old what the entire football world is wondering: If he is 'going to the Steelers.' 'You never know,' Rodgers replied. Pittsburgh, a destination Rodgers has long been rumored to be heading to this offseason, will go to Chicago to play the Bears during Week 12 of the 2025 season. Aaron Rodgers dropped a few hints but wouldn't say where, or if, he's playing in 2025. YNK Podcasts / YouTube The Bears also welcome the Vikings next season, who were in the mix for Rodgers earlier this year, but appear ready to hand the starting quarterback job to J.J. McCarthy. New Orleans, which could be in the market for a veteran quarterback after Derek Carr's retirement, will also visit Chicago, though they're far from the contender Rodgers is presumed to be seeking. The latest comments from Rodgers come a month after he said that people in his inner circle were dealing with 'difficult stuff' on 'The Pat McAfee Show,' leading to him delaying a decision on his football future. 'I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,' Rodgers said. 'I'm just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedent at this point. During a conversation on 'The Joe Rogan Podcast' this week, Rodgers revealed that someone near him is dealing with cancer.
