Yara Sameh Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for the anticipated film adaptation of Richard Osman's novel 'The Thursday Murder Club." Directed by Chris Columbus, the murder mystery stars Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie as four irrepressible retirees — Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), Ibrahim (Kingsley) and Joyce (Imrie) — who spend their time-solving cold case murders for fun. According to an official synopsis, 'The Thursday Murder Club' follows ex-spy Elizabeth (Mirren), ex-union activist Ron (Brosnan), ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim (Kingsley) and ex-nurse Joyce (Imrie), whose casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn when an unexpected death occurs on their doorstep." The full cast of 'The Thursday Murder Club' includes Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver. Produced by Columbus and Jennifer Todd, the film is the latest feature to come out of Netflix's partnership with Amblin Entertainment. 'The Thursday Murder Club' is co-written by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote, with Osman executive producing alongside Jo Burn, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody. Osman's 'Thursday Murder Club' book spawned a series with three sequels: 'The Man Who Died Twice,' 'The Bullet That Missed' and 'The Last Devil to Die,' as well as the newest installment, 'The Impossible Fortune,' which will be released later this year. 'The Thursday Murder Club" was the bestselling book of the decade in the UK. The book follows a quartet of retirees who spend their time-solving cold cases for fun. Netflix has just announced the release date for Thursday Murder Club - and it's soon

It is the news fans have been waiting for Netflix has just dropped a huge update about the upcoming film The Thursday Murder Club, adapted from Richard Osman's bestselling book of the same name. Fans of the book series have been clamouring for updates about the streaming giant's version, which features a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley and David Tennant. ‌ Netflix and production company Amblin worked together on the film, with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone filmmaker Chris Columbus serving as writer and director. The story follows residents at a retirement home who while away the hours by solving murders as a hobby - but they end up getting caught up in a real case. The main group members are ex-spy Elizabeth (played by Mirren), former psychiatrist Ibrahim (Kingsley), ex-union activist Ron (Brosnan) and retired nurse Joyce (portrayed by Celie Imrie). So far, Osman has penned three sequels to 2020's The Thursday Murder Club which follow the group as they take on more cases. The sequels are called The Man Who Died Twice; The Bullet That Missed and The Last Devil to Die. However, the Netflix film is based on just the first novel. In an update today, Netflix has finally confirmed the film's release date. It will land on the streaming platform on August 28.

Richard Osman has shared exciting news for The Thursday Murder Club fans – a brand new book in the series is coming! The author revealed that the fifth story in the series will be called The Impossible Fortune and is out on September 25, marking the first entry since 2023's The Last Devil to Die. "The gang are going to be back this autumn in a brand-new book in the series, and there's lots to catch up on," Osman said in a note to fans. Pre-order: The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman After unveiling the title, he teased that that the novel is "going to be a fun one" that will feature "a wedding, an uncrackable code, and a fortune more unusual than you can imagine" – and of course, murders. The writer also promised "more news soon" with something "exclusive" coming for fans in the weeks ahead. Osman spoke a bit more about the book on his The Rest is Entertainment podcast with Marina Hyde, confirming today: "I finished writing it yesterday – I wrote 'the end' yesterday. It's so satisfying." Teasing the plot, he said much of the theme focuses on "luck and chance and what life throws at you", before revealing that he nearly called it something else. Related: Best streaming services "The inspiration all the way through, I wanted to call it Fortune's Always Hiding, which is from 'I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles', the West Ham song… because Ron in the book is a West Ham fan," he explained. "So I said to the publishers and agents and everyone, 'This is the name I want because of the song.' And every single one of them said, 'What song?' I said, 'What do you mean what song?' Nobody knew those lyrics… "I wanted to call it that and no-one understood it, and I was thinking Impossible Heist, and I put the two together and got Impossible Fortune, which does everything it needs to do for me." Alongside the new book entry, The Thursday Murder Club is gearing up for a movie adaptation on Netflix starring Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley, which is due for release later in the year.
