Hollywood pair had 'great chemistry' in 'emotional' film which led to decade-long relationship

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth met as teenagers while starring in the heartbreaking film The Last Song, which saw the young couple fall in love on screen and in real life Nicholas Sparks ' heart-tugging novels have been the blueprint for some of the most beloved romantic comedies of the 2000s, not least the cinematic rendition of The Notebook, sparking off-screen romances along the way. ‌ This was certainly true for a certain high-profile pair who crossed paths as youngsters portraying a blossoming romance on screen, simultaneously kindling their own. Chart-topping sensation Miley Cyrus and silver screen heartthrob Liam Hemsworth first locked eyes on the set of the poignant drama The Last Song. ‌ Debuting in 2010, the film charts the turbulent journey of a defiant young woman named Ronnie, who relocates to live with her estranged father, portrayed by Greg Kinnear, following her parents' split. The move takes her and her brother from the hustle of city life to the serene coastal town where her dad resides. ‌ Throughout the story, Ronnie mends fences with her family and rediscovers herself, all while falling head over heels for a local lad. Her innate piano skills come to the fore, encouraged by her father's past as a Juilliard-trained musician, as she strives to mend their fractured bond, despite time running short. A Rotten Tomatoes critique applauded the movie, saying: "An emotional and romantic coming-of-age story, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth make a couple with great chemistry, and the credits song When I Look At You is one to cry to. A great adaptation." ‌ The on-screen romance that captivated audiences wasn't quite the fairytale behind the scenes, reports the Express, with the couple experiencing several break-ups over their decade-long relationship. In 2012, fans were thrilled to hear about the engagement of the young stars, but by 2013, wedding bells had been silenced, and it looked like it was all over. The film's allure was undoubtedly boosted by the palpable chemistry between the leads, surprising many viewers with Cyrus's commendable acting chops. One review admitted: "I'm not a big fan of Miley Cyrus, but I have to say she did an outstanding job in this." ‌ Tear-jerking warnings accompany mentions of the film, as one viewer shared: "The Last Song tugged at my heartstrings and drained my eyes of tears. I just don't get why a lot of people don't like this movie when it's got such a beautiful and heart-wrenching story." Emotions ran high for another fan who confessed: "I cried when I read the book two years ago, and so did I when I watched the movie two minutes ago. Hands down, this movie is amazing." Against all odds, Cyrus and Hemsworth secretly wed in 2018 after rekindling their romance, yet the reunion was short-lived; they divorced in 2019. Both have since found new love away from the spotlight. Nostalgic fans often look back fondly at the early days of what became a real-life romance, while some viewers remained oblivious to the off-screen drama unfolding before them. A cinema enthusiast commented: "I'm not a fan of Miley Cyrus, but in the film I was enchanted by her character. The Last Song is a very romantic and emotive film, which I like to watch. The plot of the film has a great reflection of real life."

Miley Cyrus Reveals Why She Isn't Going on Tour Anytime Soon

Originally appeared on E! Online Miley Cyrus may have dropped another album, but she's still on an endless summer vacation. The Hannah Montana alum, who hasn't paired an album with live shows since her 2014 Bangerz Tour, recently detailed why she no longer considers globetrotting a necessary part of her career—and it has nothing to do with Reinke's edema, the vocal condition she lives with. 'I do have the physical ability,' she clarified during a July 15 Good Morning America segment. 'I have the opportunities to tour, I wish I had the desire, but I don't. I also don't think that there's an infrastructure that supports artists.' Miley, 32, went on to cite Prince—who was constantly on the road—as a reason for why she doesn't think touring is in the cards for her. 'It's really hard to maintain sobriety when you're on the road,' she explained, 'which is kind of a pillar of stability in my life. None of this that I create would even be possible without the way I think about things.' More from E! Of course, this isn't the first time The Last Song star has given insight to why she doesn't perform live as much as she used to, saying her old habits exacerbated her Reinke's edema, which she described as 'abuse of the vocal cords.' 'Being 21,' she told Apple Music's Zane Lowe in May, 'and staying up and drinking and smoking and partying after every show does not help.' But considering Miley's past as one of the faces of Disney, none of her fans will be surprised that she prefers to take it easy these days. 'I worked really hard as a child,' Miley recalled to W magazine last year. "I didn't go to prom. I didn't go to dances. I didn't have so much of that social experience or time for friends. Disney, they were doing very well off of the amount of work that I was putting in as a child. I don't have any bad feelings about that. It's just the truth.' And for the 'End of the World' singer, touring is not an essential way to keep the connection with her fans alive. 'For clarity I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever,' Miley wrote in a 2023 tweet in response to backlash about her not touring. 'When I win we win. Even if I don't see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart." As she put it, 'I'm constantly creating and innovating new ways that I can stay connected to the audience I love—without sacrificing my own essentials." Miley Cyrus Says ‘Dancing in Little Clothes' Impacted Romance With Liam Hemsworth: ‘No One Wanted to Date Me'

Miley Cyrus is looking back at her time as a 21-year-old when she began 'acting out' and losing everything good that was going on in her life. While not mentioning anyone's name, the singer shared how her engagement fell through because she was 'sharing a part of myself that men wanted to be saved for them only,' hinting at the alleged reason behind her 2013 breakup with Liam Hemsworth. In a podcast called Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, the 32-year-old went on to share how the troublesome times in 2013, including her leaving Disney and going n*de, massively affected her relationships. "If I kept dressing or acting a certain way, my relationships fell apart. No one wanted to date me,' she shared, hinting at a dry dating spell. How Miley Cyrus' Relationship With Liam Hemsworth Went Astray The singer and the actor began dating in 2009 after starring together in The Last Song. Their tumultuous relationship turned into an engagement in 2012, which was soon called off the following year. The breakup came with a bold moment for her music as one of her most controversial releases, her fourth studio album Bangerz, saw the light of day. Recalling those days, the Hannah Montana star said, "When I was dating, or I was engaged at the time, but that didn't work out because I was sharing a part of myself that men wanted to be saved for them only, and the fact that I would pose n*de or dance in very little clothes or show my body, was making them feel that I was taking something away that was meant to be for them." The Wrecking Ball star added how she had 'really hard times dating.' Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth reunited in 2017, got engaged in October 2016 and married in December 2018. Their relationship came to a close in January 2020 with a finalized divorce.

Miley Cyrus Tried to Keep a ‘Happy Home' With Liam Hemsworth by Changing Her Image

On Thursday, Miley Cyrus made a revealing and rare comment on her former relationship with her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, while discussing her music career on the Every Single Album podcast. During the interview, Cyrus first mentioned Hemsworth in relation to their film The Last Song, which filmed in 2009. 'That's where I met Liam, who I would go on to marry and write a ton of—or, most of—my songs about,' Cyrus said, adding, 'Talk about catching strays,' in reference to how her songs have referred to their relationship in both positive and negative ways. While talking about her 'Younger Now' era, Cyrus brought up her relationship to Hemsworth again and how she embraced 'innocence' in her image as a way to reconnect with him in her personal life. 'When me and Liam split up the first time with 'Bangerz' because I was this provocateur, like, highly sexualized,' she shared. 'For 'Younger Now', the reason I kind of played into this innocence was because I think it was a way to keep—a way to stay—by being younger now and a less sexualized woman publicly, and this was a way to keep a happy home.' Cyrus and Hemsworth were off-and-on from 2010 to 2012, then got married in 2018. But they split up before finishing one year of marriage. Hemsworth went on to date model Gabriella Brooks, while Cyrus is currently seeing singer Maxx Morando. During the podcast, Cyrus also briefly discussed her ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas, saying when they split up in 2009, she saw the singer as a 'dick' and 'asshole' who 'dumped' her. 'He's still catching strays,' she joked. But she added that things were all good now, saying, 'I like Nick… I'm into him.. he's like married with children, we're all moving on. NILEY for life!'

Miley Cyrus takes stab at Aussie ex-husband Liam Hemsworth at album signing, fan shares images

Miley Cyrus has thrown some very obvious shade at ex-husband Liam Hemsworth using just three words at a meet and greet with fans. During the event, the 32-year-old Hannah Montana star met a fan who shared the same first name as her former spouse. As she signed a copy of her new album, Something Beautiful, Miley wrote a playful message: 'The Best Liam.' The fan, delighted by the moment, posted a photo with Cyrus and captioned it: 'me when I'm 'The Best Liam.'' The autograph quickly caught attention online. Cyrus and Hemsworth's relationship began on the set of the 2010 film The Last Song and spanned a decade, including a secret wedding in December 2018. Their marriage ended less than a year later, with Hemsworth filing for divorce, citing 'irreconcilable differences.' Their split was finalised in January 2020. Since then, Miley has been in a relationship with drummer Maxx Morando, while Hemsworth has dated model Gabriella Brooks since late 2019. Since their breakup, Liam has kept a relatively low profile and rarely comments on Miley or their past. Despite Miley's public remarks, Liam has never publicly retaliated or spoken negatively about her. The pointed autograph is just the latest in a series of public moments where Miley has seemingly taken aim at Liam. Her Grammy-winning hit 'Flowers' sparked massive controversy when it was released on Liam's birthday on January 13, 2023, with fans dissecting the lyrics for references to their breakup and even rumours of infidelity. The lyrics appear to reference their shared Malibu home that burned down in the 2018 wildfires, as well as themes of independence and moving on after their breakup. In a recent interview on The Zane Lowe Show, Miley opened up about a health scare, sharing, 'I had a medical emergency – I had an ovarian cyst rupture – we didn't know exactly what was going on so we did it.' She added, 'It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway.' Cyrus also discussed her decade-long sobriety, saying, 'I need it. I live for it. It's changed my entire life. I've learned this about myself over the years: sobriety is, like, that's like my God.' Miley is currently promoting her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, which dropped on May 30. The album release is accompanied by a musical movie of the same name, set to hit theaters on June 6.
