Katy Perry pokes fun at herself after almost FALLING out of the air as flying prop malfunctions in heart-stopping moment that leaves fans panicking during San Francisco gig

Katy Perry has poked fun at herself after almost falling out of the air during a performance in San Francisco on Friday. Fans were left panicked as they captured the heart-stopping moment when the 40-year-old singer belted out her hit song Roar while soaring through the sky on a mechanical butterfly. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Katy found humour in the situation as she shared a series of snaps poking fun at the incident. Captioning a set of photos that showed the contrast of the day, she wrote: 'How the LA show started ➡️ how the LA show ended.' The first snap showed Katy relaxing in a bathtub, before cutting to some behind-the-scenes snaps of the show. It then switched to footage of Katy plunging downwards on the flying stage prop above the audience, followed by a clip of her walking out of the arena in her dressing gown, looking noticeably shaken. Katy also shared a snap on her Stories of the fall, with the caption: 'Goodnight San Francisco.' On Friday, Katy who was dressed in a sparkling crop top and hot pants, initially looked at ease as she glided over the crowds at the Chase Center while singing her track amid her The Lifetimes Tour. However, things took a turn for the worst as she suddenly plunged downwards as the flying stage prop appeared to malfunction. The US songstress, who was strapped in, was seen looking horrified as she grabbed onto mechanical insect and attempted to steady herself, before looking upwards to see what was wrong. Amid the incident, Katy stopped singing as she tried to compose herself, before she then continued with her performance. The large flying prop appeared to slow down significantly as it made its way across the arena. MailOnline have contacted Katy's reps for comment. The pop star alluded to her recent breakup with now-ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom while obliging fans' request for her to sing her heartbreak ballad Not Like the Movies. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), fans were quick to share the shock at the moment, with many comparing it to a similar incident that Beyoncé suffered last month During the show the show in the city's Inglewood neighborhood, she asked the audience: 'You're gonna make me sing this song in this time in my life? OK, we'll do it! Because you voted for it.' According to an account from People, she continued, 'I let you choose the song tonight because I like to pick an album for every country that I go to and for the USA, I picked Teenage Dream because USA, you could be a teenage dream, baby. You better get it together. I'll always have that feeling for you.' Per the outlet, she candidly added, 'This next song I wrote in my 20s … after my first divorce,' before promising she would 'try and hold my composure while I sing it a week before my period.' Earlier in the day she had snubbed Bloom in her Instagram post promoting the concert. She listed everyone who would be in attendance for the show in her native Los Angeles, and missing from the special guests was the 48-year-old actor. Perry's caption to her 203 million followers began, 'HOMETOWN SHOW AT THE FORUM TONIGHT‼️' Showing her sense of humor, she then added, 'Ecstatic to play a show for ALL the Angelenos including my best friends, my business partners, mom, dad, my ear nose and throat doctor, my dog groomer, my MDMA therapist, my acupuncturist, my manicurist, the teacher from the yoga class I went to in 2015, the uber eats guy that that delivered my brisket breakfast burrito this morning from Dialog Cafe and all the friends that are friends with someone that knows Tamra.' While Orlando wasn't present for the performance, his ex-wife Miranda Kerr was in attendance. Perry and Bloom confirmed their breakup this month, after swirling speculation about their relationship status. The pair began dating in 2016 and got engaged on Valentine's Day 2019, before welcoming their four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove in August 2020. Bloom is also dad to 14-year-old son Flynn, whom he shares with Kerr. Representatives for the pair told that 'Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is - and always will be - raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.' The split was optically cemented when Orlando attended Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's star-studded Venice wedding alone.

Katy Perry Has Butterfly Mishap During Her Concert

Last (Friday) night, Katy Perry experienced a mid-performance malfunction that gave her fans quite the scare. During the San Francisco stop of "The Lifetimes Tour", Katy performed her 2013 hit "Roar" at the Chase Center when the giant mechanical butterfly she was riding jerked and fell in front of the sold-out arena. In a fan-captured video, Katy was suspended high above the crowd as the butterfly jolts, causing the audience to gasp. Security and the tech crew rushed backstage as the "Firework" singer held on tightly to the prop as it descended. Despite the scary moment, Katy didn't miss a beat. She suffered no injuries and continued singing "Roar" to the crowd's applause. However, it still gave her fans quite a scare. Katy suffered a similar mid-air malfunction last month in Australia. She began to tilt while riding a flying contraption, as she held on to the wires. It's been a summer of flying concert mishaps, as Beyoncé suffered a prop malfunction during her Houston stop for the Cowboy Carter tour when her flying car was visibly leaning midair. That said, concerned fans are questioning whether the stunts are worth it. "yea it's time for these artist to get out the air…," one fan wrote. Another person said, "From Bey to Katy… let's keep our boots on the ground." "these artists gotta stop fr .. about to risk your lives omg. safety first!" someone else person wrote. Another X user said, "These flying stage props need to be banned because there's way too many people at risk from these malfunctioning.." This person made a valid point, writing, "omgggg so happy she's safe this is so terrifying!! .. oh the amount of dangerous stunts pop girlies have to do in order to entertain us meanwhile male artist get on stage with a hoodie and call it a day." "Whatever happened to artist just with just a mic and a stage? Let's get back to simpler times. Get your behinds out the air." Katy has since shared a photo on her Instagram Stories, seemingly addressing the incident, writing," Good Night San Fran." With her full-scale world tour set to continue, let's hope this doesn't happen again.

I Attended Katy Perry's Hometown Concert as a Klub 143 VIP — Here's What It's Like

I Attended Katy Perry's Hometown Concert as a Klub 143 VIP — Here's What It's Like originally appeared on Parade. is 40 and thriving, and boy does she know how to throw a party in her hometown while on The Lifetimes Tour. As a guest at Klub 143, the tour's VIP experience, the evening began with a special reception thrown by SUPER that included De Soi (Perry's very own non-alcoholic aperitifs), light bites and — for the California girls — Cali's very own McConnell's Fine Ice Creams, which served up their special Perry-themed scoops of "Baby, You're a Firework." After some special photo opps with Perry's signature butterfly from her latest 143 album, I was treated to a special backstage tour to experience what it's like to actually be the "Dark Horse" singer for a split second during showtime. We even got to run Perry's quick route to the stage and learned how she navigates those challenging costume changes. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 For the actual concert, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Perry rose from beneath the stage dressed like her own version of Wonder Woman and shot up into the air twirling around to "Artificial" before gravity pulled her back down to the ground for "Chained to the Rhythm." In true Perry fashion, there was no shortage of colorful lights, laser beams, crazy costumes and fan interactions. At one point, Perry stole a fan's cell phone and began capturing footage around the stage. "Congratulations, sweetheart! That's three days of content," she said as she tried to locate the phone's rightful owner in the crowd. But the night was extra special for the California native, who opened up about her early days trying to make it in the industry in Los Angeles. "My home for nearly 23 years!" Perry said, adding it was her first time ever playing the Forum. "You know it's gonna be a good show!" While this was not Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, Perry did celebrate some of her own eras, including some of her biggest female anthems in one set. "Woman's World" and "California Gurls" got the crowd jumping up and down as Perry occasionally flew through the air and twirled in a cage. She also jumped on top of a giant flower for "Hot N Cold." While most of the evening was upbeat with some of her biggest hits like "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" and "I Kissed a Girl," she took a moment to address her personal life — without naming names. 'You guys want me to sing 'Not Like the Movies' at this time in my life?' she asked the crowd, appearing to reference her recent split from fiancé Orlando Bloom. Perry was previously married to Russell Brand, whom she told the crowd she wrote the song after, calling it "my first divorce." She admitted she was going to try to sing it and not cry, even though it was only a week before her period. After making it through the clearly emotional ballad, Perry couldn't help but thank her parents for all they've done for her. Reminiscing on stories from when her debit card declined at Chateau Marmont after friends suggested splitting the bill when Perry had a side salad and water, she thanked them for always covering her overdraft fees and brought her dad on stage. "Dad! You're on stage! I think for the very first time ever with me, right?" Perry said holding her father's hand alongside other fans she brought up. Her parents were seated in a private section alongside Lance Bass and his husband, Michael Turchin. While her mother stayed back for the special moment, Perry made it a point to bring her up during "All the Love," a song she wrote for her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, who turns 5 in August. Related: "I became a mother five years ago, and it was the best decision of my life," Perry said, adding that her daughter was hopefully sleeping. Perry did not miss a beat on the dance floor, even taking the guitar for "Teary Eyes." In true fashion, though, the best was saved for last, with Perry fighting off all the bad guys during "E.T." and "Rise" before a quick outfit change to hop on a butterfly for "Roar." As confetti and streamers rained during "Firework," it was clear Perry was happy to be home, playing the city she called her favorite. If you are a die-hard fan, the Klub 143 experience is a must. For approximately $1,069 a ticket, you'll be so close to the singer you could actually catch a drop of sweat. With a private bar and special floor access, Perry's presence really is hypnotizing during the two-hour show that consists of 24 of her best songs.
