Carnival Cruise Line shares advice for cruisers looking for love

"The Love Boat" gave people the wrong idea about cruising. Yes, there are some newlyweds on their honeymoons, but most cruises are not full of single good looking people ready to find the love of their life. That's especially true on Carnival Cruise Line, a company geared toward families. Related: Carnival Cruise Line cancels more cruises, adds adults-only cruises There are, of course, single people, especially younger ones traveling with their families. Love connections are made, and the fact that everyone has a smartphone makes geographic barriers less important. If two 23-year-olds met each on a cruise in 1985, keeping in touch would involve expensive phone calls and perhaps writing letters, Now, the couple, can text message, Facetime, and communicate endlessly for free. Cruise ships are not love boats in the classic sense because most passengers are already spoken for. There are, however, divorced parents, singles traveling alone, widowed older folks, and other passengers looking for love. Carnival also holds single events (although they are usually just a time and place for singles to meet) and there are other ways to meet the love of your life. That's something Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald wrote about in response to a touching message on Facebook page. Be the first to see the best deals on cruises, special sailings, and more. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter. Carnival does not offer any sort of official matching service for single passengers. It does, however, want to help people find love when possible. Heald received this touching email on his Facebook page on June 2. "I am almost 72 and have been a widower for the past 18 months. My husband of 32 years Ray loved to cruise. We did 11 cruises together 10 with Carnival. Since Ray's passing, I have cruised just once. I still enjoyed it but it was different. John my question is that I would love to meet someone romantically on my next cruise," wrote the unnamed female widow. She noted that she has tried to find love on land, but has not been successful. "I have very little social life. I live in Bellefonte, a very small town in Pennsylvania. Meeting new people is not possible. Before people judge me, Ray told me before he left for heaven to find someone to spend the last years of my life with. Am I of such an age that to have these desires is probably just daydreaming? How and where do I go on the ship to meet new people and to perhaps find a new soulmate," she added. Heald was sympathetic and kind in his response. "I can't imagine how hard it must be to find a relationship again after losing your husband. I am not even close to being an expert but I imagine there are many, many people who are unsuccessful. In fact there is a whole industry built on that fact with all those apps such as Plenty Of Yaks in the Field. Love is the most valuable commodity in the world and sometimes it can be hard to find," he wrote. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter to save money on your next (or your first) cruise. While it may not be easy to find love on land or at sea, Heald offered a solution that would at least increase the odds. "I want to give you a wee dollop of practical advice and this is the reason I am sharing this post so that perhaps others in your situation are reading. Before you cruise again please send me your cabin number and ship and a request that says that you wish to dine with other solo cruisers," he wrote. Heald, of course, is not a matchmaker, but he hopes the original poster finds love. "Now, I cannot promise that you will meet someone who will fill the void that has been with you these past 18 months but perhaps, just perhaps you will meet someone who can. I send you all my hopes that you will find it," he added. Many passengers shared their own advice as well. "I hope she finds genuine love. Maybe join a Facebook group for solo single Cruisers? That being said, beware the scammer. Unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous people that could try and take advantage of her situation for their own gain," wrote Carol Millitch Leonard. Shawn Caccia was encouraging as well. "It is much easier to meet people on a cruise than anywhere on land, especially if you've been married for so long and well 'out of practice' shall we say. There are social events for singles, mixers, but in my honest opinion, if you can manage the smell, the smoking area is always the most social place on the ship. About half the people there don't even smoke but rather enjoy the conversations. I say start there and who knows," he posted. Donna P. Hayhoe shared her own story of finding love on a cruise. "I have never lost a spouse, but divorced and I met someone in my FB cruise group and we became friends and our situations were different at the time. As time passed, we were fortunate to do a cruise together 1 year and 2 months later on same ship and now we are going on our second cruise together on the same ship 2 years later same month we met," she shared. MASH cast now – Emmy Award winning star to one woman show

It was announced this week that Loretta Swit, who was best known for her work on M*A*S*H, had died at the age of 87, but here we look at where her co-stars are now M*A*S*H first started in 1973 and spanned for a decade and 11 seasons. The iconic show saw plenty of well-known faces rise to fame, being part of the series. The show was a comedy-drama which followed the staff at the United States Army Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) during the Korean War which was between 1950 to 1953. The programme drew audiences across the world, with the final episode in 1983 reportedly bringing in an audience of more than 125 million viewers. ‌ The main cast all reunited back in January 2024 as they got together for a two hour reunion episode where they reminisced on the show. Here's what the original cast are doing now. ‌ Loretta Swit Loretta Swit played the role of 'Hot Lips' Major Margaret Houlihan and appeared in every episode including the pilot and went on to star in Whoops Apocalypse, S. O. She went on to win two Emmys throughout her career as well as landing role in The Love Boat and Cagney & Lacey throughout the 1980s. Aside from this, Loretta didn't have an acting credit after this, apart from the film Play The Flute in 2019. However, she starred in a one-woman touring stage production of Eleanor: Her Secret Journey as Eleanor Roosevelt in 2013. ‌ It was announced on Friday, May 30, 2025, that Loretta had died at the age of 87. Her representative, Harlan Boll, claimed that the New York Police Department stated that the actor died of suspected natural causes. Alan Alda Alan Alda was Captain Benjamin Franklin 'Hawkeye' Pierce, who was known as a prankster on the series. Alan's acting career went from strength to strength after M*A*S*H ended. He starred in a number of TV shows like The Blacklist, Horace and Pete, Marriage Story, Bridge of Spies and The Big C. His most recent work includes starring as Dr Arthur Amiot on Ray Donovan and as Solomon Waltzer on The Good Fight. ‌ Wayne Rogers Captain 'Trapper' John McIntyre was played by actor Wayne Rogers. However, he was one of the shortest serving actors as he decided to leave after three series. It was reported that he wanted to leave due to appearing as a supporting role rather than a main character. After leaving, Wayne starred in Murder, She Wrote, Once Upon a Murder and House Calls. He died in 2015 when he was 82 after complications from pneumonia. McLean Stevenson McLean Stevenson took on the role of Lt. Col. Henry Blake in M*A*S*H. However, like Wayne Rogers, he also decided to leave after series three. His character was then killed off which ended in backlash from angry viewers. After leaving, Stevenson starred in the Dirty Dancing TV series, The Love Boat, Tales of the City and Diff'rent Strokes.

‘Shrinking' star Ted McGinley has been ‘brought to tears' by the response to his performance: ‘It's been an amazing journey'

Ted McGinley has been a television star for decades, dating back to his debut performance on Happy Days and series regular work in '80s stalwarts like The Love Boat, Dynasty, and Married… With Children. However, for years, McGinley was dogged by an unfounded reputation as a show killer, to the extent that McGinley has said in past interviews that his moniker as the 'patron saint of jumping the shark' cost him acting jobs. So, McGinley is understandably emotional about the universal acclaim he's received for his performance on the Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking. More from GoldDerby Final 2025 Tony eligibility rulings: Jinkx Monsoon, Jeb Brown, and Bernadette Peters will compete as featured players Julia Knitel describes tackling triple roles in 'Dead Outlaw' and performing 'a perfect musical theater song' in the 'weirdest' show Derek Hough breaks down his 'Dancing With the Stars' routines with Hayley Erbert and Mark Ballas 'I'm telling you, I've been brought to tears,' McGinley tells Gold Derby. 'I'm so used to being the worst, or being told that I'm such a bad guy to add to a show. This has been an amazing journey and experience, and I honestly feel blessed. I'm working in scenes with Harrison Ford. I worshipped him as a young guy. My entire life, I've seen everything he's done. I love him, and Jason Segel — these are my contemporaries now. I mean, I still pinch myself every day. Do not tell anyone this, but I would go to work for free.' Co-created by Segel, Brett Goldstein (who also appeared in Season 2), and Bill Lawrence, Shrinking focuses on Jimmy (Segel), a widowed therapist who tries to put his life back together following the death of his wife with the help of several close friends, including fellow therapists Paul and Gaby (Ford and past Emmy nominee Jessica Williams), his longtime friend Brian (Michael Urie), and his neighbors, Liz and Derek (Christa MIller and McGinley). In Season 2, Liz and Derek find their relationship tested, as one of Liz's old flames comes back into her life. The conflict, which culminates with Liz and the ex sharing a clandestine kiss that she later confesses to Derek, provided McGinley with some of his best material yet. 'I didn't know where they were going to go with this thing, and I purposely don't ask, because I love how it affects me as an actor,' McGinley says about Liz and Derek's rough patch. 'It feels genuine and, in this particular instance, I had tears in my eyes for Derek. I felt so bad for him because he loves her so much, and they have a truly unusual relationship, one that is deeply rooted in honesty. Both are allowed to say whatever they want to each other, and she says it however she wants, and Derek doesn't take offense to it, because he knows really what he knows about where she lives. He knows really what she means and what her bottom line is, and that sometimes it comes across harsh, but she feels different.' In the show's seventh episode, Derek confronts Liz about her brief moment of infidelity and speaks openly for the first time about how he feels betrayed. It's a showcase scene for McGinley, whose ability to keep the dialogue realistic and feeling contemporaneous is unmatched. (Fortunately, the show is a comedy series, and Liz and Derek reconcile by the end of the episode.) 'I feel like the writing is so special and so high-brow that they don't ever write down to anyone, and that you're never asked to play something obvious,' McGinley says. 'That's such a unique pleasure. We create this environment on the set, which is safe, allowing you to take chances and fail without anyone caring. There's no judgment — you can take a huge swing, get up, and take another one. When you're on a set, it's always about time. We're always in a hurry, and in this show, it never feels like that's the case. They always make room, and that's because the crew is so gracious and kind, allowing you to take chances and do it again.' McGinley says it also helps to have a scene partner like Miller. 'When you're doing a scene like that, it's so intimate, and with Christa, I can never anticipate what she's going to do,' he says. 'She's a very difficult read as a human being and as an actress, and so it's so fantastic to work opposite someone that you could never anticipate what's coming. She's just so wonderfully talented and unique.' Shrinking Season 2 is eligible for Emmy Awards consideration this year, and the creative team behind the Apple TV+ series hopes to increase its nominations total from Season 1, where the series landed two acting bids for Segel and Williams. The cast is back, now shooting Season 3, which is expected to premiere later this year. McGinley says they've shot about seven episodes thus far, with some pickups to come because of production disruptions caused by the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year. 'There are challenges this year, and you see a lot of Derek and Liz — I've had a lot of interesting things to play so far, and it's going to be an interesting year for Derek,' McGinley says, loathe to reveal too much about what fans of the show can expect. 'By the way, every episode, I'm always afraid they're going to write me off or kill me,' he jokes. 'Am I still in it?' All episodes of Shrinking are available to stream on Apple TV+. Lulu Roman, gospel singer and longtime 'Hee Haw' castmember, dead at 78

Lulu Roman, gospel singer and longtime 'Hee Haw' castmember, dead at 78 Lulu Roman, a gospel singer and longtime star of country music variety show "Hee Haw," has died, a close friend confirmed to USA TODAY on April 24. She was 78. Roman died April 23, in Bellingham, Washington, where she had moved last year to be closer to him. The cause of death was not shared. Getting her start as a scrappy comedian and Go-Go dancer in the Texas nightclub scene, Roman's fame grew exponentially when she became a regular on "Hee Haw" − the long-running comedy sketch show that offered country music stars guest spots to perform. From 1969 well into the 1990s, Roman delighted "Hee Haw" audiences with wry humor and later a knack for gospel vocals. A bout with drug addiction sidelined her from the show briefly in the 1970s, after which she discovered Christianity and went on to record a dozen albums, including duets with Dolly Parton and George Jones. Roman performed at the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan in 1980 and was inducted into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame in the late 1990s. "Lulu Roman was a dear friend of 40 years and she will always be remembered as one who made people laugh and smile. What better tribute is there?" country music singer T. Graham Brown said of her death in a release. "I talked to her a few days ago. We shared one last laugh and I told her that I loved her. I will really miss her. May God bless her soul." Equal parts singer and actress, Roman appeared on "Hee Haw Honeys," a spin-off of the original show, as well as the movie "Corky" and an episode of "The Love Boat." Born Bertha Louise Hable in 1946, she was placed in an orphanage at two and a half years old, where she would live until she graduated high school. Battling a thyroid issue and struggling with her weight throughout her life, Roman later discussed how growing up overweight led to bullying and how a dramatic slim-down in later years helped her to understand how sugar had been a coping mechanism during a tough childhood. Roman is survived by her eldest son, Damon. Her youngest son, Justin, died in 2017.
