Cloaked, hook-handed figure is terrorizing NYC: Mystery madman or marketing ruse for ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer?'

This 'maniac' wants to kill it — at the box office. An apparently cutting-edge ad campaign for the latest installment of the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' franchise is terrifying New Yorkers from Coney Island to Manhattan. The dead ringer for the villain in the 1997 slasher flick — long black cloak, rubber boots, bucket hat and gleaming fisherman's hook — has been seen in videos making the social media rounds in the past two weeks. The new movie opened July 18. 4 In one viral video the creep slinks up behind a group of nine teenage boys walking just before 11 p.m. on the boardwalk at the South Street Seaport. One of the teens notices the stalker, whose silver blade could be seen twinkling in the glow of a streetlamp, before alerting his friends who all begin to sprint in terror. Fifteen minutes later, cameras near the Highline in Chelsea captured footage of an anxious woman repeatedly glancing over her shoulder at the same figure, about five feet behind her, before she takes off running. 4 The purported ad campaign for the latest installment of the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' franchise is terrifying New Yorkers. Daylight provided no refuge from the shadowy figure. He is seen skulking behind an oblivious woman in Battery Park on the morning of July 11. Unflappable street vendors barely noticed. Sony Pictures, mysteriously, did not respond to inquiries.

Texas faces another wave of devastating flooding; heavy rains lead to rescues and evacuations

Heavy rains and flooding have hit Texas again, forcing rescues and evacuations just ten days after the state was hit by catastrophic flooding that killed more than 130 people. Another round of heavy rain and flash flooding hit the state over the weekend, leading to more evacuations in Kerrville and the surrounding areas, worsening river levels, and temporarily halting already overburdened emergency rescue missions. Despite the delays, rescue crews plan to resume operations as storm chances decrease. In Kerrville, Texas, a riverbank memorial is gradually emerging as a focal point for community members to come together and grieve for those lost in the recent floods. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Seniors Are Losing Weight with These Barefoot Shoes – You Won't Believe It! Barefoot Vitality Undo How badly did the latest rains impact search efforts? At least 129 people have already died as a result of the initial floods, and more than 170 are still missing, as per a report by The NY Post. Live Events This renewed assault has seriously hampered ongoing search and rescue efforts for the dozens of people who are still missing from the original July 4 floods. Significant rainfall returned over the weekend in the state's most recent gut punch, causing new Flash Flood Emergencies as the San Saba River quickly rose to major flood stage, necessitating mandatory evacuations for residents in low-lying areas. As Kerrville saw yet another round of heavy rains, local police warned residents and even news crews to avoid the rapidly rising Guadalupe River. Senior National Correspondent @JMichaelsNews is in Kerrville, Texas, covering the flash flood tragedy as search crews continue looking for more than 100 people still missing. He reports on how people are dealing with the recovery, physically and emotionally: — The Weather Channel (@weatherchannel) July 14, 2025 Katie Byrne of FOX Weather reported from Kerrville on Monday morning that "It's the last thing that these search crews need as they are still looking for so many still missing from last weekend's flash flooding." "Unfortunately, we're expecting more rain here through Wednesday, and that search is still ongoing in the water and along miles of riverbanks," as quoted in a report. Where were evacuations and rescues happening this time? Numerous rescues occurred in places like Lampasas and San Saba, where rivers and creeks swelled dramatically, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The river in Lampasas, northeast of Kerr County, rose from a typical level of 10 feet to over 30 feet, causing extensive road closures and evacuations. Some search operations for victims of the initial Fourth of July 4 flooding, which devastated communities, especially in Kerr County, were temporarily halted by Sunday's sporadic heavy rainfall. Numerous people, including young campers at Camp Mystic along the Guadalupe River, are still missing, and the death toll keeps rising. Is there any relief in the forecast for Texas? Despite the setbacks, first responder teams emphasize that as the immediate threat of the strongest storms lessens, they are committed to returning to their vital, life-saving work on Monday. According to the FOX Forecast Center, the likelihood of storms will begin to decline on Monday and continue to do so through Tuesday. Even though there won't be as many storms overall, any storm that does form could bring with it 1-2 inches of rain, as quoted in a report by the NY Post. FAQs Are search teams still searching for the missing? Yes, despite the fact that operations were halted on Sunday due to rain, teams are returning to work as the weather improves. How many people remain unaccounted for? Over 170 people are still missing, with 129 confirmed dead from the July 4 flooding.

Royal step up: Prince William and Kate Middleton granted ‘rare' royal power from King Charles

It's time to 'up' their royal stations! In a defining moment for the modern monarchy, King Charles III has bestowed upon Prince William and Kate Middleton the authority to issue Royal Warrants – prestigious endorsements previously reserved for the sovereign and a select few. This historic elevation not only reinforces the couple's growing role within the Royal Household but also symbolises a thoughtful transition of royal duties in an era of renewal and continuity. What are Royal Warrants? Royal Warrants, dating back to the 15th century, are formal recognitions awarded to businesses and service providers that deliver goods or services to the Royal Household with unwavering quality, sustainability, and integrity – typically over a span of five years. Until now, only senior royals – such as the King himself and Queen Camilla – held the privilege of granting them. However, come 2026, Prince William and Kate Middleton will be able to endorse and spotlight outstanding British industry, craftsmanship, and innovation. A royal transition on the cards? This move marks a royal first: Kate Middleton will be the first Princess of Wales in 115 years to wield this power. The last female in that position was Queen Mary, wife of King George V, before 1910. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Notably, Princess Diana never held this prerogative, despite her transformative cultural impact. According to Sir Ian Patrick, Prince William's private secretary, as reported by The NY Post, the couple is 'delighted to be able to recognise and celebrate British industry, creativity and skills through the granting of Warrants.' Their appointments align with a broader royal strategy to champion Made-in-Britain excellence, promoting environmental sustainability and community innovation – a cause the couple has long supported through initiatives like the Earthshot Prize. The aftermath: With more than 800 companies already holding Royal Warrants – from luxury chocolatiers and fashion houses to boutique hoteliers and gourmet food producers – this development sends ripples throughout national and global markets. Products bearing a royal seal often experience a surge in prestige, sales, and export potential – a phenomenon widely known as the 'Kate Middleton Effect.' What this means for British business Economic boost: Brands awarded by William and Kate can expect a notable uplift in consumer confidence and international interest – especially in lifestyle, fashion, and food sectors. Sustainability spotlight: The royal couple's environmental ethos suggests a deeper emphasis on sustainable practices – certifying suppliers who balance profit with purpose. Small businesses shine: Local artisans, family-run ventures, and service specialists are set to gain visibility alongside established brands. Inclusive endorsements: Smaller services – those offering niche craftsmanship or community benefits – might find new opportunities under William and Kate's more modern, inclusive lens. A royal evolution in progress This appointment is part of a broader narrative: King Charles and Queen Camilla issued over 500 Royal Warrants in 2024, with Charles having begun the practice as Prince of Wales back in 1980. That context underscores a generational handover – one that positions William and Kate at the heart of a modern monarchy. As the future King and Queen consort, their new powers aren't merely ceremonial. Instead, they reflect a deliberate shift – as royal historian Robert Jobson notes – toward realignment in royal responsibilities. While the timing and vetting delayed the announcement, the symbolism of Kate stepping into this historic role echoes both continuity and transformation. Furthermore, the move highlights Kate's problem-solving role within the royal family – as emotional leader, peacemaker, and cultural bridge between generations. It speaks to a monarchy ready to lean into its future custodians with confidence and purpose. 50 Cent reacts immediately to Diddy verdict after long-standing feud

Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. 50 Cent was quick to react to the Sean 'Diddy' Combs verdict Wednesday – seemingly hailing the disgraced rapper for beating the feds before quickly dubbing him 'the Gay John Gotti.' 'Diddy beat the Feds that boy a bad man!' the rapper said in an Instagram post alongside a photo of himself grinning and applauding emojis. 50 Cent, who has a longstanding feud with the disgraced music mogul, then compared him to the infamous Mafia boss who was nicknamed 'The Teflon Don' after prosecutors couldn't get charges to stick, The NY Post reports. 'Beat the Rico, he the Gay John Gotti,' the rapper added. US rapper Curtis James Jackson III aka '50 Cent'. Picture: AP. The 'In Da Club' hip-hop artist was name-dropped during the trial back in May during shocking testimony that touched on the longstanding feud between the hip-hop legends. Diddy's ex-assistant, Capricorn Clark, had told jurors her boss once implied he might pull a gun on Fitty. 'I don't like all the back and forth … I like guns,' Clark recalled Combs telling his manager after seeing 50 Cent at an MTV event. 50 Cent – who famously took nine bullets during a 2000 shooting in Queens – reacted to the name-drop with mocking faux fear. 'Wait a minute PUFFY's got a gun, I can't believe this I don't feel safe,' the New York City native posted on Instagram after the testimony. 'LOL.' The beef between the pair began nearly 20 years ago after 50 Cent, whose real name Curtis James Jackson III, released a diss track — 'The Bomb' — in 2006 that accused Combs of knowing who killed The Notorious B.I.G. He spent much of the Combs' sex-trafficking trial roasting him over the torrent of graphic evidence and accusations levelled against him. The Bad Boy Records founder was ultimately found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted on two sex-trafficking charges and one racketeering charge. The acquittals on the sex trafficking counts mean he will avoid a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence. He could have faced life in prison if he were convicted on sex trafficking or racketeering conspiracy. Combs now faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence on each of the two prostitution counts. Watch: Cowboy Hat-Wearing "Jake The Rizzbot" Interacts With People

A talking robot has astounded both - the Austin residents and the online community - with its mastery of Gen Z and Gen Alpha vocabulary. Meet Jake the Rizzbot, a child-sized AI-powered robot, which is operated using a wireless controller. Fitted with a silver chain and a fake cowboy hat on its head, the machine has "IN TRAINING" printed on its chest. Videos of Jake interacting with people at The Domain in downtown Austin and North Austin have surfaced on social media. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jesse Hernandez (@jesseh7203) The bot tried to jog down pavements and even chatted to amazed onlookers and impressed Austin residents with his "rizz." On the recent test run, Jake's owner was excited to show off his newest device and enjoyed informing onlookers that they "might get to see it faint" when Jake's battery began to run low. "Hey! I'm Jake, but you might know me better as Rizzbot. It's nice to meet you," Jake said in a viral video, before immediately launching into the laudatory adulation. "You look clean, nephew. That moustache is hard and that beard is cold, ma homie. That white t-shirt is amazing, and that black wristwatch is completely frosted out," Jake added. The bot used several Gen Z and Gen Alpha words, saying, "You've got that badass energy G, that clean drip locked down, and you're rocking it in style. Props to you, you are a solid boss 'fo real." People on the internet were astounded by Jake's flicks, and some were even concerned about the implications of bots like him for the development of artificial intelligence. "More like glaze bot holyyy," one user commented. "Jake always been a chill guy," a second comment read. "The first iteration of the terminator," said one. The robot stands at four feet tall and weighs 170 kg. It was created by China-based Unitree Robotics, which debuted the Unitree G1 humanoid agent in May, as per The NY Post. The Unitree website states that the price is approximately $16,000 (almost Rs 13.7 lakh), although it frequently varies. The robot is intended to function as an "AI avatar" that grows "based on deep reinforcement learning and simulation training."
