The Ninth Cut Butchery & Steakhouse in Dubai
One sure-fire first impression of Dubai? It's a city that loves to be extra, going beyond what you would expect in all the right ways. Whether that's gold flakes speckled on your breakfast, a Ferrari jet ski on the Palm or sipping on a mixed beverage with a killer view, there's no denying this city goes that extra mile. But sometimes, you stumble upon a place that has none of those elements. No gold and no view, but with its offering, impresses so much, you won't need any of the extras. Tucked away at the Novotel Hotel in Al Barsha and moments away from the Mashreq metro station stands The Ninth Cut. Despite it looking like a simple, warmly lit restaurant on the outside (which it is), here you will find much more. There's a butchery and a deli to explore too – a meat-lovers' paradise, if you will. You'll find a wide selection of meats on full display as you make your way from the entrance to your table (so bear this in mind if your plus one is on the squeamish side). (Credit: The Ninth Cut Butchery & Steakhouse) From oxtail and brisket to dry-aged cuts, the variety extends far beyond the usual cuts of beef. There's lamb, chicken and even veal hanging from the ceiling, all of which you can package up and take home. But if you're here to stay for dinner, you're in good hands as the team here really know what they're talking about. Diners are guided to the state-of-the-art butchery to handpick their chosen piece of meat, cooking preference and sauce – the bone marrow jus is outstanding. Pick the asparagus side smothered in parmesan and a side of patatas bravas for a different take on steak-frites. Or, if the à la carte takes your fancy, the meat-filled plates are equally as impressive. Smoked beef cheek with pearl couscous is hearty, but for a midweek treat, the Ninth Cut burger is a juicy option. But be sure to order the butcher's burger for a fully loaded patty of crispy beef bacon and caramelised onions, both options served with chunky fries of course. (Credit: The Ninth Cut Butchery & Steakhouse) While your main is getting cooked to perfection, we wouldn't judge if you're tempted by a starter or two (guilty). The baked brie with fresh focaccia will please the entire table, while the kibbeh nayeh (raw diced lamb) with grilled pita bread curbs that meat craving. Prices are very reasonable, with everything on the menu falling under the Dhs200 mark – an absolute win for a steakhouse. You needn't come here for dinner to experience The Ninth Cut at its finest, though. It's equally brilliant for lunch. For an added personal touch, you can even have a knife engraved with your initials and a custom apron, which makes a keepsake gift for someone visiting. The Ninth Cut offers a wonderfully low-key experience that (even without the killer views and Ferrari jet skis) is exactly what you need for a night out featuring excellent food, warm service and prices that won't break the bank.
