Sharon Osbourne revealed her darkest secrets to me over beer at LA mansion… including tragic sacrifice she made for Ozzy

"BIRTHS, booze, drugs, bike accidents, cancer, burglary, you name it and we've got through it,' Sharon Osbourne told me candidly at her glamorous Hollywood home with Ozzy. It was emotionally fraught to Advertisement As she was helped back towards her black limo at Wednesday's funeral procession, she flashed the peace sign - husband Ozzy's trademark gesture. Having interviewed Sharon at the family's Beverly Hills mansion, I had witnessed first hand their enduring love. Back in 2005, Sharon invited me into their sumptuous Los Angeles home - where MTV reality show The Osbournes was filmed - to talk about her autobiography called Extreme. Ozzy - knowing it was his wife's gig - ambled around making fruit drinks for us then watched on from a polite distance. But he couldn't help interjecting with one-liners. Make no mistake, this was a double act. One Sharon - with a supreme, sharp-elbowed talent for showbiz management - had forged. Advertisement When she first started working with Ozzy in 1979 he was a washed up, drug-addled, alcoholic headbanger who'd been sacked as lead singer of heavy metal giants Black Sabbath. When I interviewed Ozzy three years earlier at their Buckinghamshire home, he'd admitted: 'I'd have beer for breakfast and work me way up. 'I would down four bottles of brandy a day, plus beer, wine, cocaine, pills and pot.' Tearful Sharon Osbourne reads fans' touching tributes to beloved husband Ozzy as she joins family at funeral procession Yet Sharon, 72, saw something in the wildman when most others thought he was an unsalvageable wreck. "When I first met my husband, I knew instantly that for the first time in my life, I was in love," she would later say on her chat show The Talk. Advertisement "He was so funny and quick-witted and yet very vulnerable. And I just thought he was the funniest, sweetest guy I'd ever met." Marriage sacrifice It would lead to marriage, three kids - and an almighty fall out with her father - self-anointed Godfather of Rock Don Arden, who was Sabbath's manager. When Sharon married Ozzy, bruiser Don - real name Harry Levy - gave her his contract as a wedding present. 9 The famous pair and their children Aimee, Kelly and Jack pictured in 1987 Credit: Getty 9 Sharon will do everything in her power to maintain her husband's legacy and be strong for their three children, says our writer Credit: Getty - Contributor Advertisement Repacking the frontman from dated '70s rock dinosaur to 80's Prince of Darkness, Sharon switched Ozzy from her dad's Jet Records and signed him up to a much bigger US company. It caused a rift with her father that would last more than 20 years before they patched it up. Back in 2005, Sharon told me with sadness in her voice: 'Don has never said he's proud of me. That hurts.' Dark presence Don - who died aged 81 in 2007 - had been a dark presence in her childhood that left deep psychological scars. 'There was nothing unusual in seeing my dad threatening someone or brandishing a firearm,' she said in a TV interview. Advertisement "My father really had a temper. He had a voice which could echo through the entire house. "A couple of times, he would whack me and he used to yank my hair. But I wouldn't say I was abused and beaten. In those days it was the normal thing." In adulthood Sharon had struggled with bulimia, telling me: 'Some people do drink and drugs but for me it's food, food, food. It's about having low self-esteem. When I first met my husband, I knew instantly that for the first time in my life, I was in love Sharon Osbourne 'I went through a stage where I loved my husband. I loved my kids, I had a great career and thought, 'What the f*** does it matter what I look like? Have another pint of ice cream, you deserve it'. 'But I was kidding myself. I wasn't well. I was so fat I couldn't get up the stairs. My son Jack used to have to push me up with one hand on each arse cheek while I yanked myself up with the rail. Advertisement "I literally had to lift the rolls of fat off my belly to wash under it, that's how fat I was. How bad is that? Toughest challenges In the meantime this indomitable woman survived colon cancer, having surgery the day before her 2002 20th wedding anniversary, followed by chemotherapy. Without my wife I would be long dead.' 9 Jack, Ozzy and Sharon at the rock legend's final show Credit: Instagram 9 Ozzy and Sharon were as welcoming and down-to-earth a couple as you could wish to meet, says Oliver Credit: Getty Advertisement During my interview with Sharon three years later she was amazingly candid and witty. As photographer Dave Hogan packed away his camera gear and I put away my notepad, Ozzy piped up: 'Fancy a beer?' Most celebrities can't get rid of journalists quick enough but Ozzy and Sharon were eager to chew the fat. Alcoholic Ozzy produced a four-pack from the fridge, and handed me one while sticking to soft drinks himself. I eagerly asked him about heavy rock yet he explained his real love was The Beatles. Advertisement As welcoming and down-to-earth a couple as you could wish to meet, Ozzy and Sharon were eager to hear about gossip from Britain. They were a hilarious double act and the fierce love between them was evident. That Ozzy became a national treasure was largely Sharon's doing. Now he's gone the Osbourne matriarch will do everything in her power to maintain her husband's legacy and be strong for their three children.

Ozzy Osbourne close bond with 'favourite kid' Kelly: A look at Black Sabbath's star's playful moments with his youngest daughter following his death aged 76

Ozzy Osbourne enjoyed a close relationship with all his children but admitted Kelly was his favourite. Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2023, the Black Sabbath singer discussed being a grandfather to Kelly's son Sidney who she shares with Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson. Ozzy, who died on July 22 aged 76, had three children with his wife Sharon - Aimee, 40, Kelly, 39 and Jack, 38. Before that, Ozzy adopted his first wife, Thelma Mayfair's son from a previous marriage, Elliot Kingsley, who is now aged 57. They also had two children together: Louis and his older sister, Jessica Osbourne, who is an actress who appeared in Better Call Saul. Speaking about Kelly's son, he said: 'I can already see what's he gonna be like. He's gonna be a real proper little boy, poking sticks and setting fire to things. Just like I was! 'We get on great, and it's just f***ing wonderful. I never had a chance to see much of my kids growing up because I was always on the road. But being at home has allowed me to do that as a grandad, and little Sid is just f***ing great. He really is. 'It's been the making of Kelly too. If I've got a favourite kid, it's Kelly.' He was asked: 'Are Jack and Aimee aware of that?' And he replied: 'Oh, they know it! Me and Kelly, we're like two peas in a pod!' Kelly and Ozzy shared many playful and heartwarming moments together over the years, many of which were documented on their MTV reality show The Osbournes. In one clip from the show, Ozzy comforted Kelly when she was nervous to go on MTV music show Total Request Live in the early noughties. 'I'm really nervous,' she said backstage. 'I hope I don't trip and then land on my face or something... I know, I can't say f**k, I have to behave myself.' In one throwback clip, Kelly sat backstage with Ozzy as he tried on a black outfit with dramatic tasselled sleeves In another clip from the show, Ozzy spoke about his then teenage daughter's tendency to throw tantrums which he called 'wobblers' 'You can't say what?' Ozzy said as Kelly sat on his lap. 'I learned from you daddy,' she said. 'You learned from the best baby,' he said and gave her a kiss. Ozzy and Kelly were then seen on TLR together with the rocker putting an arm around his clearly nervous daughter. Another resurfaced clip from the show saw Kelly unveiling a small heart tatoo on her hip to Ozzy. Sitting in their living room, Jack hinted at Kelly's new tattoo to which she said: 'That's not fair, you promised you wouldn't say anything.' 'What? Oh, Kelly. What, you got a tattoo? Where?' Ozzy asked. Kelly then showed it to him to which Ozzy said: 'You've got that there for the rest of your f*****g life. It'll break your mum's heart.' In another clip from the show, Ozzy spoke about his then teenage daughter's tendency to throw tantrums which he called 'wobblers'. 'Ever since Kelly was born, she has what we call a wobbler. It's kind of like a freak out. Over nothing! She's had a wobbler everyday,' he said and did an impression of her screaming. After Ozzy's death, Kelly uploaded a super sweet video of the two of them which saw a very touching father-daughter moment, as they danced and sang together in the car. The clip, taken from the 2018 series of Ozzy & Jack's World Detour, saw Kelly behind the wheel of a huge HGV vehicle which was their mode of transport for the trip. As Ozzy, who was dressed very smartly in a navy blazer, black T-shirt, trilby hat and sunglasses stepped into the vehicle, Kelly said: 'I've got this song in my head, I'm gonna have to play it for you.' With George Ezra's 'Paradise' blaring out of the speakers, Kelly begins to sing along, with Ozzy looking bemused as he hears the hit for the first time. However as the chorus comes on, Ozzy cracks a smile and the pair start dancing in their seats, moving their arms and about and shaking their shoulders. Modelling some black nail polish like a pro, Ozzy can be seen moving his hands from side to side and pointing to the sky as the song continues. As Kelly drives off to start their journey, she can be heard saying: 'I love you' with Ozzy replying 'I love you more.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lily Kelsey (@weeniedogadventures) Ozzy was born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham in 1948, and dropped out of school at the age of 15. After serving two months in prison for burglary, he decided to pursue his love of music and by 1970 Black Sabbath had gained a huge following in the US and UK with the release of their first album. Ozzy quit the band in 1978 and divorced his first wife Thelma Mayfair, who he had two children with, four years later, amid his ongoing substance abuse problems. He went on to marry second wife Sharon Osbourne, who helped him transform into a successful solo artist and the couple had three children together. Ozzy gained a whole new audience of fans with the family's reality TV show The Osbournes in 2001. He is survived by his wife Sharon and his five children, Jessica, Louis, Aimee, Kelly and Jack. Kelly, Ozzy, Sharon and Jack Osbourne pictured at the Grammy Awards in 2014 The final photograph of him before his death was taken on stage as he sat on a black throne aptly decorated with a bat to perform his best-known hits for his loyal fans The statement announcing Ozzy's death was signed by four of his children, and it remains a mystery why his two other children, Jessica and Elliot, were snubbed from the family tribute. It is unclear if they will release their own public statements, as both remain largely out of the spotlight. Jessica was the one who made Ozzy a grandparent for the first time, and despite never appearing in The Osbournes' TV show, she was mentioned in the episode ' Smells Like Teen Spirits,' when Ozzy learned that she had welcomed a daughter. Jessica has two daughters, Isabelle and Kitty, and one son called Harry. Meanwhile, not much is known about Elliot Kingsley as he tends to keep out of the spotlight with no public social media accounts. He now lives in Wellington, New Zealand with his wife Joanne Crawford, who is originally from Scotland, where the couple lived before jetting abroad. Ozzy took to the stage for his farewell concert at Villa Park Stadium in his native Birmingham less than three weeks before his death. The rocker reunited with his original Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward for the first time since 2005 to bid an emotional farewell to his decades of performing live on stage. After selling out in minutes, over 42,000 fans packed into Villa Park for the aptly-titled Back to the Beginning show, which saw Ozzy and Black Sabbath return to their hometown - 56 years after they formed there. The final photograph of him before his death was taken on stage as he sat on a black throne aptly decorated with a bat to perform his best-known hits for his loyal fans. His final words on stage were: 'It's the last song ever. Your support has enabled us to live an amazing lifestyle, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.'

Heartfelt reason Ozzy Osbourne's rarely seen daughter Aimee kept career 'a secret'

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne's eldest daughter Aimee Osbourne shared her true thoughts on diving into the music industry, after distancing herself from her family's fame Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne 's rarely seen daughter Aimee Osbourne once opened up about the heartfelt reason she chose to keep her career hidden. Being born to famous parents, the 41-year-old admitted she feared being seen as a "nepo baby", a term used to describe someone who gains success or opportunities through familial connections. ‌ Unlike her younger siblings Jack and Kelly Osbourne, Aimee decided not to take part in the family's popular MTV reality show, The Osbournes, as well as other projects such as their family podcast. ‌ Instead, the singer opted to pursue a career of her own. Reflecting on her journey into music, Aimee said she was "shy" about singing at first, until one of her mother's friends introduced her to songwriters. ‌ She explained: "I grew up around a lot of music and then I guess just having that kind of creative environment, it was kind of like a natural part of my everyday life. "And then I was always interested in writing music and singing, but I was very shy and almost embarrassed about it, because I didn't want that whole nepotistic thing, that just felt really awkward, so I kept it a secret." ‌ Previously speaking in an interview on the Greatest Music of All Time YouTube Channel, she went on to recall the moment that changed her perspective. "My mum's friend overheard me singing, I think in my room or something, and she said, 'Well, would you like to come and stay with me? And, I know these people that write this music, very similar to what you like, and I think you should come and see what happens'." Aimee admitted she was "very hesitant and secretive about it" at first, and "felt very shy". ‌ "Then the trip went really well and I kind of surprised myself, and then it kind of went from there," she added. After deciding to stay away from projects associated with her family, she went on to release music under the name ARO (her initials). ‌ Aimee has also starred in MTV's 2003 adaptation of Wuthering Heights and in 2014, she recorded a voiceover for Postman Pat: The Movie. In 2018, Sharon shared her thoughts on her eldest daughter's decision to keep away from the spotlight. Speaking on The Talk, she said: 'She felt too that she didn't want to grow up on camera, and so she left at 16 and I regret every day that she did.' ‌ Despite keeping her distance professionally, Aimee appeared to have a close relationship with her parents, but not so much with her siblings. On Dax Shepard's podcast, Armchair Expert, in 2021, Kelly said: 'We don't talk. We're just really different. She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her.' Earlier this week, the family put their differences aside for Ozzy's funeral, which took place in Birmingham. ‌ Understandably, the three siblings struggled to fight back tears as they supported their grieving mother Sharon, in front of a crowd of fans paying their respects. Alongside them was believed to be Ozzy's son Louis, one of his other three children from his first marriage to Thelma Riley. Ozzy died surrounded by his family on July 22. His cause of death hasn't been confirmed, though he had a string of health issues including Parkinson's Disease.

Jack and Kelly Osbourne's united front for Sharon after overcoming teenage fights

Ozzy Osbourne's funeral took place in his hometown of Birmingham as the Osbourne family accompanied his coffin in a private procession The funeral of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne has taken place with his close-knit family stood by his side for one last time. ‌ Crowds of fans gathered in the streets of Birmingham, the rock star's birthplace, to pay their respect. While the funeral service itself remained private today, fans were given the opportunity to show their love and admiration for Ozzy in a procession down Broad Street on Wednesday. ‌ Ozzy, who was known by many as the Prince of Darkness, joined the procession in a car, as fans watched a heartbroken Sharon Osbourne conceal her face. Lovingly surrounding Sharon were the three children she shared with the singer—Aimee, Kelly, and Jack. ‌ Understandably, they were all visibly distraught, doing all they could to comfort their mother, as well as each other, in what was a tragic moment for their family. Lipreader Nicola Hickling revealed the words she believed were whispered between siblings Jack and Kelly. According to her, Jack says 10 sweet words to comfort his older sister in the emotional moment—"Come "on now, Dad wanted us to celebrate his life." Jack and Kelly were heavily featured as teenagers in the reality show The Osbournes, which launched on MTV in the early 2000s. ‌ The scenes were worlds away from their chaotic MTV days where the siblings fought like cat and dog. They once came to blows in spectacular fashion when Jack danced with Kelly's sworn enemy Christina Aguilera at a party. "When you hate someone, I hate someone," she raged before a full-on brawl ensued and Sharon had to step in. ‌ Another time things turned violent over Jack's refusal to stop throwing parties while their parents were away. Again, it ended with them being prised apart by staff. It later emerged that the pair were both fighting their own dark demons. Kelly was battling with an addiction to painkillers that she replaced with emotional eating after coming clean. While Jack entered a rehab facility for an addiction to opioid painkiller OxyContin in series two. He told the camera crew: "I want to be in control of my life. I was really loaded, and I just sat on my mum's bed, and I just said, 'I am going to go pack my bags... I'm ready to go. I want to go; I need to go.'" ‌ Jack did manage to get clean and has celebrated his sober milestones. And these days he is extremely close to Kelly, who supported him through his MS diagnosis in 2012 and is proud auntie to his three children with ex-wife Lisa Stelly: Pearl Clementine, Andy Rose, and Minnie Theodora. Ozzy sadly passed away just weeks after his final show in Birmingham at the start of July. The Back to the Beginning festival was promoted as the star's last performance and marked the first time in two decades that all members of Black Sabbath—Ozzy, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler—performed on stage as a band. Reports suggested that the remaining former Black Sabbath bandmates were present at the funeral, along with Metallica's James Hetfield and singer Yungblud. Elton John was also rumoured to have intended to set out to attend the service. During the touching moments of the funeral procession, local ensemble Bostin' Brass performed a grand brass rendition of Ozzy's hit song 'Iron Man' as well as a version of 'Crazy Train.' Fans, who had gathered from far and wide, chanted the singer's name with enthusiasm as his family tearfully watched on.
