Glastonbury Festival sells 'few thousand less tickets' to avoid congestion
Glastonbury Festival has sold "a few thousand less tickets" this year, following concerns about overcrowding in 2024. Festival organiser Emily Eavis is keen to see whether the reduced ticket sales, meaning the spectacle isn't using its full 210,000 capacity, "can make an impact on some of the busier times". She told the 'Sidetracked' podcast: "It'll be interesting just to see how that affects the dynamics on site. "Interestingly, people have moved slightly differently since Covid. "So, they tend to move more in a herd. "So, my main thing really this year is just to communicate that there are like 10 routes to anywhere." While some fans voiced overcrowding concerns last year, Emily admitted none of the 250 festival staff she recently held a meeting with agreed with that. Explaining that nobody put their hand up when she asked the 250 workers if anyone thought the 2024 festival was overcrowded, she said: "And I was like, [that's] interesting, because there's a lot of talk, some people think that it was." Emily admitted Glastonbury have forked out "a lot more" for this year's performers than they have in the past, but pointed out the festival also turns down several commercial offers. She explained: "We are paying people a lot more than we ever have but it's not as much as you would get doing Hyde Park. "It's such a corporate world, especially in the music industry. We are offered a lot of things that we turn down. "The whole thing is based on goodwill. "Imagine if we tried to sell it out [to commercial brands]. It would be awful, it would be the end. I'd rather literally die before that happened. It just can't happen." Olivia Rodrigo, The 1975 and Neil Young are headlining this year's Glastonbury, which takes place from Wednesday June 25th to Sunday June 29th. Charli XCX is expected to draw a huge crowd when she headlines The Other Stage on the Saturday night of the spectacle. The festival has forked out for extra land to ensure there will be more space for fans around the stage. Last year, thousands rocked up to The Other Stage to watch Avril Lavigne perform, and some fans took to social media to voice overcrowding concerns.

'Geriatric' band Patchwork joke Glastonbury too soon after village fete
South London band Patchwork are not playing on Glastonbury Festival's Pyramid Stage this year, keyboardist Marc Harris has clarified to Metro, during what was an alarming morning for the funk collective. As Glastonbury confirmed the stage times of their 2025 lineup this morning, the Worthy Farm festival also chucked in a curveball: a mysterious band called Patchwork, billed to perform on the famed Pyramid Stage at 6.15pm on Saturday, June 28. Patchwork is organiser Emily Eavis' fake band name which will end up being a famous act, just as in 2023 mystery band The Churnups resulted in a surprise set from huge rock band The Foo Fighters. Alas, Glastonbury isn't on the cards this year for the Putney-based musicians; even if they are Google's first answer to 'Patchwork band' – something ticketholders are frantically searching this morning. 'It's always been a dream, of course, after a decade of shambling pub gigs in southwest London, often with more band members than audience… but we knew our day would come…' Patchwork's Marc joked to Metro. 'The band is always ready to play, just hoping we will have recovered from the village fete in St Mary Bourne the week before. 'Clearly geriatric bands are all the rage now and with a combined age of over 500 we certainly qualify, but we could have done with a bit more notice.' Marc, 60, who has been playing with the band for 10 years alongside founding boutique travel agency Africa Odyssey and making his own symphonies, requested Metro add that the real Patchwork will be performing at The Half Moon in Putney on Wednesday evening (tickets here, for those who missed out on Glastonbury this year). While the Half Moon is no Pyramid Stage, the band will be rocking out to covers of funk and soul classics for a spirited crowd. Not one to miss. Keys basher Marc forms Patchwork alongside vocalist Gemma Dorsett, drummer Patch Zahara, trumpeter Nick Steele, guitarist Dom Liversedge, vocalist Rory Barnett, bass player Rob Oatley, and sax players Charlie Somers, Ed Butterworth and Roger Chetwode. While Marc and co. will not be heading to the Pyramid Stage this year, it's rumoured the band behind the Patchwork clue could well be US sisters HAIM. Robbie Williams has also been cropping up in fan speculation as he is currently on tour and mysteriously posted a picture of himself at Worthy Farm in the 90s. More Trending Other names like Green Day, Sam Fender, The Cure, and the long begged for Pulp have all been mentioned as possible surprise acts. Alongside the mysterious Patchwork band, the Pyramid Stage also teases a huge 'TBA' on Friday at 5pm. The confirmed Glastonbury headliners this year are The 1975 on the Friday, Neil Young on the Saturday, and Olivia Rodrigo on the Sunday, with Sir Rod Stewart taking the legends slot. Charli XCX will also be performing on The Other Stage, with Raye in the sunset Pyramid Stage slot on Saturday. Glastonbury will take place at Worthy Farm from Wednesday June 25 to Monday June 30. Tickets are now sold out, but the BBC will be covering the action live and on iPlayer. Got a story? Pop star Olivia Rodrigo to headline Glastonbury Festival 2025
US pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo will become the second youngest Glastonbury Festival headliner ever when she takes to the world-famous Pyramid stage this summer. Glastonbury is one of the biggest and most prestigious festivals in the world, where Worthy Farm in Somerset welcomes more than 200,000 people to watch music, dance, comedy and other performance artists. Rodrigo, who is 22, will close the festival's biggest stage on the Sunday night. Billie Eilish was the youngest headliner at 20 years old when she performed in pop-rock band, The 1975, will be the Friday night headliners and veteran rocker Neil Young will perform on the Saturday night with his band, The Chrome Hearts. It was also announced that Charlie XCX - who won five awards at the Brits last week - will perform tracks from her hugely popular dance album, Brat, on The Other Stage. Olivia Rodrigo will have a busy June, headlining the British Summer Time festival in London's Hyde Park two days before she is no stranger to performing to huge crowds - she played to over 1.4 million fans during the 95 shows of her Guts World Tour in 2024. Other artists performing across the weekend will be Raye, Ezra Collective, Noah Kahan, Djo (known to many as Stranger Things star Joe Keery) and Gracie Abrahams. Will you be going to Glastonbury or any other festivals this summer? Let us know who you are looking forward to seeing in the comments section below.

It's Neil Young versus Charli XCX at Glastonbury – but I know who'll win
Glastonbury 2025 has unveiled a bill that promises a packed and thrilling festival, with something for everyone, from gnarly old rockers (well, Neil Young and Rod Stewart) to the vital new blood of young pop fans flocking to see Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX. The 1975 have earned their spot as Friday night's headliners with a brand of spirited commercial art pop that is reliably entertaining live. And if chart stars aren't for you, there's a bill chock full of interesting alternatives from Brit award winning jazz ensemble Ezra Collective to intense rap rock duo Bob Vylan, from blazing RnB singer-songwriter Raye to dazzling American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlisle, from the feisty feminist pop rock anthems of Alannis Morrisette to the rambunctious assault of rave veterans The Prodigy. Last year was widely deemed underpowered, but this year I think Glastonbury have got the range and balance about right. Indeed, my first reaction to the Glastonbury 2025 poster was that there's a lot of artists I'd actually like to see this year. My second thought was, oh, I wonder how old legend Neil Young on Saturday Night's Pyramid Stage will fare against hot woman of the moment Charli XCX on The Other Stage? Young is an all time great, but he's notoriously messy, curmudgeonly and unpredictable live, whilst Charli XCX can play three banging up to the minute zeitgeist hits in the time it takes him to unleash one wonky guitar solo – and do it dancing in her underwear. There were a lot of scheduling problems last year, with whole areas being temporarily shut down as crowds voted with their feat. RnB star SZA performed to possibly the smallest ever headliner audience at the Pyramid, whilst shabby alt rockers The National packed them out on the Other Stage. I suspect there will be more of those kind of clashes this year. I'm personally excited by sets from Wolf Alice, Wet Leg, Nova Twins, Self Esteem and, indeed, The 1975, since it suggests that these exciting artists all have new music ready for release. Some of my favourite young bands are on the bill, including Wunderhorse, Sprints, Inhaler, CMAT and the intriguing Djo (Joe Keery from Stranger Things). You know what you are getting with artists of the quality of St Vincent, John Fogerty, Father John M Misty and Burning Spear. And it is an opportunity to sample the delights of new stars such as Noah Kahan, Gracie Abrams and Shaboozey. But I think it's a safe bet that Rod Stewart will draw the biggest crowd of the festival for his Sunday afternoon legend slot. Whatever your taste in music, who will be able to resist the 80-year old Caledonian crooner giving it a bit of Maggie Mae, Sailing and Young Hearts? I look forward to the hills of Somerset resounding to the roar of hundreds of thousands of voices bellowing out D'ya Think I'm Sexy? I'm not sure that many people do, anymore, Sir Rod, but Glastonbury is a place to suspend belief and let the music do the rest.
