Lindsay Lohan opens up about leaving Hollywood stress behind by moving to Dubai

Lindsay Lohan, after enduring intense scrutiny in Hollywood, relocated to Dubai in 2014 and found peace as a wife and mother. Featured in Elle's Summer Issue, she discusses prioritizing family, setting boundaries, and managing her public image through social media. Lohan also shares her skincare routine, emphasizing healthy habits and self-care for maintaining her youthful glow. After nearly three decades in the spotlight, Lindsay Lohan left the hectic pace of Hollywood behind, relocating from Los Angeles to Dubai in 2014. Since then, the "Mean Girls" star, now 38, has embraced life as a wife and mother—and found a newfound sense of peace. Lohan, featured on the cover of Elle's 2025 Summer Issue, opened up about her life abroad and the personal and professional growth she's experienced since relocating. Lohan shared that life in Los Angeles can be stressful, even during simple moments like taking her son to the park, where she constantly worries about being watched or photographed. In contrast, she finds New York much more peaceful and private, with people minding their own business and a different, more relaxed energy. She prefers spending her downtime in New York over Los Angeles. Lohan shares her 1-year-old son, Luai, with husband Bader Shammas. Lohan appreciates the spaciousness of Los Angeles, but she finds that Dubai offers all the benefits she values—privacy, peace, and plenty of space—without the usual worries. In Dubai, she feels safe and able to enjoy a sense of calm that eludes her in other cities. Starting her career at just three years old, Lohan rose to fame with the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap, quickly thrust into the intense spotlight of Hollywood. Constant public scrutiny eventually took its toll, leading the Freaky Friday star to leave it all behind and relocate to Dubai in 2014. Lindsay Lohan has expressed frustration that much of her early work was overshadowed by paparazzi attention and media scrutiny, a phase she wishes hadn't affected her career. Lindsay Lohan explained that the intense media focus on her personal life often overshadowed her professional work, which made her want to step away and disappear, knowing that without a scandal, the spotlight wouldn't stay on her career alone. In 2022, Lindsay Lohan discussed how social media has empowered her to take control of her own story—a stark contrast to her early career days when paparazzi shaped public perception without her input. She expressed admiration for today's artists who can define their own identities online, admitting she's a bit envious since she didn't have that opportunity. Aware of the fast-paced digital world, she carefully vets everything before posting, often consulting others to ensure her message is just right. Lohan emphasized the importance of taking public opinions with a grain of salt and staying true to oneself. She advised slowing down amid the fast pace of today's world, reminding that people often move too quickly and that it's important to take a moment to pause and relax. After relocating to Dubai, Lohan discovered the importance of setting boundaries by being selective about her work. Since returning to films, including starring with Jamie Lee Curtis in Freakier Friday, she's found that putting herself first greatly improves her well-being. Lohan shared that both she and Jamie Lee Curtis value family deeply, and Jamie has taught her the importance of prioritizing self-care—because without taking care of yourself first, it's hard to support others. L ohan shared that she loves having a routine and sticking to schedules. Her mornings typically include journaling, sipping green tea, breakfast with her son, and a Pilates session she makes sure to fit in. Despite her busy days, family remains her top priority—her husband, son, and herself. She emphasized the importance of balance and routine, especially as a parent, explaining that she adapts her life around her child's schedule. However, Lohan is no stranger to criticism, as fame often brings intense scrutiny, particularly regarding her appearance. In the Elle interview, Lohan dismissed rumors about having a facelift and revealed the real secrets behind her glowing skin. She shared that she follows a dedicated skincare routine and a healthy diet, including a daily juice made of carrot, ginger, lemon, olive oil, and apple. She also drinks plenty of green tea and water and loves adding pickled beets to almost everything. Lohan is currently experimenting with new serums to maintain her skin's glow. Lohan also shared her skincare habits, including splashing ice-cold water on her face each morning, drinking lemon juice, and adding chia seeds to her water. She uses eye patches daily and is interested in laser treatments. After trying Morpheus8 microneedling once, she realized her skin had become too sensitive, especially after having her son. This prompted her to overhaul her routine and diet, including allergy tests that helped her eliminate triggers, leading to noticeable improvements in her skin. Lindsay Lohan opens up about motherhood and ‘feeling safe' in Dubai after escaping LA

After nearly 30 years in the spotlight, Lindsay Lohan took a step back from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and uprooted her life from Los Angeles to Dubai in 2014. Since then, the 'Mean Girls' actress, 38, has not only become a wife and a mother, she has found peace within herself. Advertisement Lohan, who appears on the cover of Elle's 2025 Summer Issue , opened up about her life overseas and what she's learned about herself, both personally and professionally, since making the move. 'It's hard in L.A. Even taking my son to the park in L.A., I get stressed. I'm like, 'Are there cameras?' In New York, there's no worry; no one bothers us,' said Lohan, who shares 1-year-old son Luai with husband Bader Shammas. 'Everyone has their own thing going on. There's a different kind of energy in New York. I'd rather have downtime in New York than I would in L.A.' 'But the nice thing about L.A. is, I like space [and you get that here]. But I'm thinking as I'm saying this, the funny thing is, in Dubai I get all of those things. I get the privacy, I get the peace, I get the space. I don't have to worry there. I feel safe.' Lohan, who began working at age 3 and gained stardom with her first movie role in the 1998 remake of 'The Parent Trap,' was thrown into the thick of Hollywood. 'I feel like some of [my work] got overshadowed by paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger, and that's kind of annoying. I wish that part didn't happen,' Lindsay told Bustle in 2024. 'I feel like that kind of took on a life of its own. So that's why I wanted to disappear. I was like, 'Unless there's no story here, they're not going to focus on just my work.'' 'When I first started out in the business, none of us had a say in how to control our own narrative,' she told Cosmopolitan. 'There were paparazzi pictures, and then people ran with it. So I think it's really good that, in this day and age, people can say who they are and who they want to be. And I admire and appreciate that. I'm a little jealous because I didn't have that. But I think it moves really fast, and I just try to keep up as best I can. And I check everything before I post it. I'll send it to people, because you have to.' 'You have to take everything people say with a grain of salt and just be you and slow down because everyone's so quick right now,' she said. 'People just don't stop. You've got to chill.' REUTERS After moving to Dubai, Lohan quickly learned the power of saying 'no' when it comes to picking and choosing professional projects. 'They teach you to say 'yes' to everything, and that's not really what life's all about,' she told Bustle of her earlier years in the industry. 'I was like, 'What if I never fall in love? What if this never happens?' And it took me just taking time for me for all those doors to open and the 'yeses' to come, the things I wanted to say 'yes' to.' Since her return to the big screen, Lohan, who stars alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in 'Freakier Friday,' said she's found that prioritizing herself makes a huge difference in her overall well-being. '[Jamie and I] are both very family-oriented people. We always talk about that, and one of the other big things [she's taught me] is to always take care of yourself first,' she told Elle. 'Because without that, how can you do everything for everyone else?' 5 Lohan starred alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in 'Freaky Friday' and the upcoming sequel, 'Freakier Friday.' Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP 'I love having a routine, and I like schedules,' she continued. 'So, my morning routine: waking up, writing in my journal, sipping my green tea, breakfast with my son, and then Pilates, making sure I go.' Despite her hectic schedule, Lohan said the 'most important thing' in her life is family. Advertisement 'I mean, it's the most important thing: my husband, my son and me. It's all about balance and, as I said, routine. Especially when you have a kid, routine is the most important thing. And whatever their routine is, I've got to live by that.' Lohan is no stranger to criticism. With fame comes speculative curiosity, especially when it comes to her appearance. 5 'I love having a routine, and I like schedules,' Lohan said. The star shared the secrets behind the skincare routine that she says has dramatically altered her look. 'Everyone does Botox,' Lohan said. 'I drink this juice every morning. It's like carrot, ginger, lemon, olive oil, apple. I also drink a lot of green tea, a lot of water. I'm a big pickled beets person, so I put them in almost everything. My skincare is very specific. I'm trying out some serums now that I'm doing. I'm testing them.' 'Also, I'm a big believer in ice-cold water on your face when you wake up,' the 38-year-old said. 'I drink lemon juice a lot. I also put tons of chia seeds in my water. Eye patches I do every morning. I'm into lasers.' Advertisement 'I did Morpheus8 (a noninvasive radiofrequency microneedling treatment) once, and then I realized my skin is so thin that I can't be doing that,' Lohan said. 'My skin changed after having my son. It got really sensitive. That's what really made me change my whole routine and diet and everything. I did blood tests, and I was like, 'I want to know everything I'm allergic to.' So I cut everything out, and that's kind of when everything started to change for me.'

10 Gifts That Scream Summer Camp Nostalgia

In this edition of The Gift, we've found some gifts that channel cool, retro-summer camp vibes. Plus: a super-light camping chair we love and some throwback soccer shorts. I didn't go to traditional sleepaway camp as a kid. My dad was a professor at a local university and had summers off to hang. He was also fixated on me becoming a pro women's basketball player — about 25 years too early — so the only camp he'd pony up for was a weeklong basketball intensive. There were no s'mores, no archery, no bonfires. Just defensive drills, one-on-ones, and plenty of footfires. All of which partially explains why I have such imagined nostalgia for real summer camp. Label my clothes! Assign me a cabin! And please, please teach me to make a lanyard. I think a lot of us carry this fantasy for an imagined summer escape. Some of it, no doubt, comes from culture, too. Blame it on Meatballs, Salute Your Shorts, or The Parent Trap, but every year as Memorial Day passes, I find myself lusting after pine trees, cabin stays, singalongs, and lakeside lounging. And adding a few finds to my life that have a certain vintage summer vibe to them tends to scratch this itch. It makes me feel a bit like I'm the main character in an idyllic, camp-y movie — with plenty of warm months ahead of me to enjoy. So it's with confidence that I say no matter where you're traveling or staying this summer, infusing a little camp vibes into your gifting — for others or yourself — will be much appreciated. A few ideas: A few years back I got a Hometown Apparel sweatshirt screenprinted with the name of a beloved local lake. It's now my summer uniform. If you're visiting someone at a cottage or cabin, a hoodie with the name of the town would make a thoughtful, cozy houseguest gift. (You can find any town on the site. Prove me wrong!) These extremely cozy modern striped tube socks also have that '70s camp uniform feel. A great group gift for a friend trip. You needn't be sipping powdered lemonade in the mess hall to appreciate this classic enamelware pitcher. If I really get my act together, I'll bring one with flowers in it when I visit a friend in his Hamptons' rental this summer. I'm also smitten with these splatterware tumblers, which could work as vessels for juleps or spritzers (and toothbrushes in the off season). No summer camp would be complete without nature walks and arts and crafts. During the pandemic lockdowns, I gave a friend one of these grown-up tie-dye kits, which comes with a shibori tutorial and all the fixings, (a silk handkerchief, plant-based dye). Meanwhile, kids might have a lot of fun with these animal print stamps, while their grown-ups enjoy these pocket-sized nature study guides. The guides are less than $10 apiece and would be great on the coffee table of any summer retreat. (The scat finder one is a real crowdpleaser.) As for letters home, shouldn't we all have a set of these Sakura Cray-Pas Japanese pastels and a pad of postcards? Store-bought postcards are nice, but homemade ones are even better, and those smudgy oil pastels make it easy to succeed with more abstract interpretations of one's surroundings. Both gifts take up next-to-zero room in an overnight bag — er, trunk. I'll leave you with this fancy s'mores kit courtesy of Recchiuti, makers of one of our favorite boxed chocolates. The shipping charges almost double the cost, but that one singular bite of melty, marshmallow-y goodness — under the stars or over your stove's pilot light — will be a slam dunk.

Lindsay Lohan manifested her return to acting. With ‘Freakier Friday,' the former Disney star returns home.

Manifestation can be a powerful thing. Just ask Lindsay Lohan. The 38-year-old actress largely credits her return to acting, or Lohanaissance, to Netflix. The collaboration, which saw Lohan star in a trio of romantic comedies for the streamer from 2022 to 2024, was something she manifested for herself. 'It was really Netflix. And I was manifesting it,' Lohan told Elle for its Summer 2025 cover story. 'During COVID, I was like, 'I want to work with Netflix.' I kept writing it in my journal and saying it. And then that's what happened. I was like, 'Oh, it'd be nice to do three films with them, and then see where that goes. And then I definitely want to do my first feature back with Disney.' So I manifested that, and I'm manifesting this movie now.' Lohan stars in Freakier Friday, the sequel to the beloved 2003 Disney film, Freaky Friday, in which she starred alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. While Freaky Friday saw Lohan as Anna Coleman, a moody, guitar-strumming teenage girl who has a strained relationship with her mother, played by Curtis, Freakier Friday revisits Anna, now an adult, with a daughter of her own. 'I feel like everything felt at ease when we were making it, and I feel that's the best way to describe how I felt when I watched it. It felt easy and fun, and fresh at the same time,' Lohan told the publication. For Lohan, revisiting her Freaky Friday character was nothing short of nostalgic. She never thought she'd be filming a sequel to the beloved aughts-era film. 'It's something you don't really think about,' she told Elle. 'And then when you get to do it, bring a character that you knew so well back to life, in a sense, it's exciting. There's a comfort with it that you don't find in a new character. It's evolved.' But OG Lohan fans know that Freaky Friday wasn't her first foray into Disney films. The actress landed her first Disney feature film in 1998 with The Parent Trap, a remake of the 1961 film. Lohan pulled double duty playing twins Hallie and Annie, who are separated and forced to live on opposite sides of the world — in California's Napa Valley and London — after their parents get divorced. When they coincidentally meet at a summer camp, they hatch a plan to swap places. Lohan, who was 12 at the time, had not taken any formal acting lessons. She nailed her audition anyway. 'I didn't take like five minutes for each character to get ready. I just did it because one of the things that's easy about it is, Annie has an English accent and Hallie is American and has a California accent. Annie has long hair and Hallie has short hair. And they are just totally different,' she told the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 1998. Lohan went on to become a Disney household name, leading films including 2000's Life-Size, 2002's Get a Clue, and 2003's Freaky Friday. She also stars in 2004's Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen as Lola Cep, a 15-year-old, New York City-based teen with a dream of being a Broadway sensation. Two months after that, Lohan strayed away from her Disney roots with Tina Fey's beloved teen comedy Mean Girls, in which she stars as Cady Heron, a mathlete turned momentary queen bee. She then rounded out her Disney tenure with Herbie: Fully Loaded in 2005. It's been 27 years since Lohan first auditioned for The Parent Trap. Re-teaming with Disney, in a way, feels like coming home for her. 'For me, it was when I went onto the Disney lot,' Lohan said in an interview with Nightline in 2024. 'Because that's not just Freaky Friday for me. That's The Parent Trap. That's Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. That's Herbie. It's so many moments for me. So when I got there, I kind of felt, like, this essence of a little kid again.' The former teen queen chose to 'disappear' from Hollywood, following a handful of public personal battles and legal troubles in the mid-aughts. Photographers following her every move as she came of age influenced Lohan's decision to relocate to Dubai, where paparazzi are banned. While Lohan, her husband, Bader Shammas, and their son, Luai, are still based there, the actress has been spending more time in Los Angeles and New York for work. 'Being back on the lot emphasized to me that I made the right decision to take the time away to really soul search, find out who I am, what I love, what I want out of life, and how I want to live my future. It came at the right time, it just felt like the right moment,' Lohan told Flaunt magazine in 2024. As for what's next in the Lohanaissance? Fans will soon be able to catch her on the forthcoming Hulu drama series, Count My Lies, adapted from the Sophie Stava novel of the same name. Lohan will also executive produce the show, which will be the first TV series she'll have a starring role in.

Lindsay Lohan Reveals the ‘Selfish' Reason She's Ready for Another Baby

Lindsay Lohan is busier than ever. Her highly anticipated Freaky Friday sequel is releasing this August, she was just announced as star and executive producer of a TV series Count My Lies, and, oh yeah, she's raising her almost 2-year-old son Luai with husband Bader Shammas. Still, she wants to be a little bit 'selfish' — and she just revealed she's ready for baby number two. The Mean Girls alum, who is the cover star of Elle in a new feature released online today, shared that she wants another baby. 'I feel like we live in a different world now, where women make it such a point, especially in motherhood, to make time for ourselves,' Lohan said. 'We make it important.' It's true — and it's a good thing, even! — but at the same time, sometimes it's OK for moms to overextend themselves just a little bit for your kids. More from SheKnows Lindsay Lohan Finally Spoke Out About the Plastic Surgery Rumors & It's More Direct Than We Expected 'But also, once you have one kid, you're like, 'Oh, my kid needs a kid to play with,'' she continued, adding, 'I'm like, 'He needs a friend.' Even though things are chaotic, she wants to go through it all again with another baby so her child will have at least one sibling. Which make sense! Lohan has three younger siblings herself, so it makes sense she wants more kids. I come from a family of six, and my first two kids were 18 months apart because I wanted my oldest to have a sibling as well. In the interview, Lohan said 'there's nothing like [the bond of siblings].' But there is also a more 'selfish' reason for wanting another baby. 'Also, I don't know if it's selfish — but I'm like, 'I need more than one kid to take care of me when I'm older,'' she said. Personally, I don't think she's selfish at all! I'm thankful that I have many siblings to help share the load of caring for my parents when they're older too. This isn't the first time Lohan has talked about more kids. In an interview on TODAY with her Irish Wish co-star Ayesha Curry in March 2024, Lohan said, per PEOPLE, 'of course I do' about having more kids. 'Do you want four like Ayesha?' host Hoda Kotb asked. 'I mean, you never know,' Lohan responded. 'Let's go for a second first. But I love having siblings. I feel so blessed to have other siblings to be able to hang with and talk to and relate with. I would love to have more. I want my son to have that same experience.' So sweet! One thing's for sure: Lohan is glowing since becoming a mom. She told Elle in the interview today, 'It's the most important thing — my husband, my son, and me,' The Parent Trap star said. 'It's all about balance and, as I said, routine. Especially when you have a kid, routine is the most important thing. And whatever their routine is, I've got to live by that.'
