This Sydney bar with cracking harbour views has just been added to a prestigious world-best list
We're all familiar with Michelin Stars (will you ever come Down Under?) – but what about a global body for cocktail bars? That's where The Pinnacle Guide comes in. It's the bar world's answer to a Michelin-style accolade, and instead of stars – or even hats – it's all about pins. Last year, two Sydney bars achieved Pin status – award-winning glamour Maybe Sammy and good-times-only El Primo Sanchez – meaning they've been recognised for excellence across drinks quality, vibe, staff happiness and sustainable practices. Now, two rounds of newly pinned bars have just been announced – and there's only one Aussie venue that made the cut. And it's right here in Sydney. Located on level 32 of the InterContinental, Aster Bar is one of Sydney's most beautiful rooftop venues, offering sweeping views of the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and twinkling city skyline. Inside channels old-world glamour, with plush seating and a marble bar. And now, it's officially a One Pin venue, according to The Pinnacle Guide. On Aster Bar, The Pinnacle Guide says: 'With sweeping views of some of Sydney's most iconic landmarks, Aster Bar is a spot for visually striking cocktails with just as impressive views.' A bit more info on The Pinnacle Guide: bars have to apply to be considered, before being anonymously assessed and tested by The Pinnacle Guide team. Applications are always open, so if you reckon your fave spot deserves a shiny Pin (I can sure think of a few) – ask them to apply. One Pin means excellent, two Pins is outstanding, and three Pins signals an exceptional experience. Currently, only one bar holds three Pins – and that's Lyaness in London. These are the 31 newly-pinned bars around the world: Two Pin bars Bar 1802, Paris, France Kaito del Valle, Mexico City, Mexico Kioku Bar at The OWO, London, UK Little Red Door, Paris, France The Bar In Front Of The Bar, Athens, Greece The Cambridge Public House, Paris, France One Pin bars Aster Bar, Sydney, Australia Baba Au Rum, Athens, Greece BackDoor43, Milan, Italy Candelaria, Paris, France Cat Bite Club, Singapore CERESIO 7, Milan, Italy Cinquanta - Spirito Italiano, Pagani, Italy Copper Spoon, Fort Wayne, USA Dr. Zhivago Bar, Zurich, Switzerland Dry Milano, Milan, Italy Equal Parts, London, UK Hanky Panky, Mexico City, Mexico Le Mary Celeste, Paris, France Manhattan, Singapore Moebius, Milan, Italy Sentaku Izakaya, Bologna, Italy Service Bar, Washington DC, USA Sexy Fish, Miami, USA Shinji's, New York, USA The Bar Below, London, UK The Diplomat, Hong Kong The K Bar, London, UK The Milk Thistle, Bristol, UK Thyme Bar, New York, USA Tiger Bar, Nashville, USA To read the full list of newly pinned bars, have a look at the website here. Three Scottish cocktail bars named among the world's finest in prestigious list
The bars have earned their spots alongside world-renowned venues in cities like London, Paris, Sydney, Singapore and Los Angeles Three Scottish cocktail bars have earned their place among the finest on the planet, after being recognised in a prestigious global ranking by The Pinnacle Guide. The internationally respected guide, which spotlights standout drinking destinations across the world, placed the Scottish venues alongside acclaimed bars in London, Paris, Sydney, Singapore and Los Angeles. Two of the bars are based in Edinburgh, while the third is nestled in a luxury hotel in rural Perthshire. Hey Palu in Edinburgh was awarded one pin, marking it as 'excellent', while fellow capital favourite Panda & Sons secured two pins, branding it 'outstanding'. Also taking home two pins was The American Bar at Gleneagles in Auchterarder, praised for its world-class cocktail experience in an iconic setting. According to The Pinnacle Guide, a pin system is used to rank venues after a rigorous selection process involving a self-application, intensive assessment modules, anonymous in-bar reviews and spot-check interviews. On its website, the guide states: 'Rapidly becoming the cocktail bar industry's most respected accolade of excellence, The Pinnacle Guide is a 1, 2 & 3 PIN recognition system that is based on a thorough self-application process, rigorous assessment modules, followed by a series of spot check interviews and anonymous in-bar reviews.' One pin signifies excellence, two indicates an outstanding offering, and three is reserved for truly exceptional bars. Tucked away in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, Hey Palu has been celebrated by The Pinnacle Guide for offering a refreshing take on the classic cocktail bar experience. Awarded one pin for excellence, the venue is described as 'an approachable Italian bar' that blends modern flair with Mediterranean charm. Hey Palu, Edinburgh Writing about the bar, The Pinnacle said: 'An approachable Italian bar, Hey Palu offers a modern twist on the classics, with a laid back style and a nod to their family roots.' Steering clear of the traditional white-jacketed formality often associated with classic cocktail venues, Hey Palu embraces a more relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. 'Hey Palu can be found in the heart of Edinburgh Old Town. Self-described as a modern Italian bar, the team have chosen to stay away from the more traditional 'white jacket' formality and have instead opted for a relaxed feel whilst maintaining the essence of true Mediterranean hospitality,' the guide continues. Inside, retro Italian prints line the walls, including photographs taken by one of the owner's great aunts in the 1930s, alongside a locally painted Campari print. Guests are treated to dry roasted peanuts served in repurposed Campari bottles with their first round, a charming aperitivo touch that adds to the bar's quirky personality. Panda & Sons Behind a quirky barber shop front lies one of Edinburgh's most innovative cocktail bars, Panda & Sons, recently awarded two pins by The Pinnacle Guide for its outstanding offering. At first glance, the bar appears to be a whimsical, vintage-inspired spot. But as The Pinnacle notes: 'What appears to be a whimsical vintage-inspired bar is, in fact, a leading voice of Edinburgh's cocktail culture, serving truly innovative drinks.' Inside, guests are welcomed into a warm, wood-accented space full of tweed and timeless charm. 'Panda & Sons is a serious cocktail destination that excels in not taking itself too seriously,' the guide adds. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The American Bar Tucked away inside the iconic Gleneagles Hotel, The American Bar has earned two pins from The Pinnacle Guide, praised for its old world glamour and inventive approach to sustainability. 'Gleneagles' smallest bar is a rather glamorous ode to the 1920s, heather-hued to match the landscape and with an innovative take on using otherwise discarded produce from across the hotel,' wrote The Pinnacle. Split across four cosy rooms, the bar offers everything from secluded corners to a front-row seat at the counter as cocktails are expertly crafted. 'The American Bar can only be described as old world glamour,' the guide added, noting the 1920s-inspired decor, etched glass, purple velvet seating and art deco touches throughout.

Cardiff bar named among the best in the world
The Pinnacle Guide has revealed a range of new 'Pinned Bars' which have been added to its list of the 'World's Best Cocktail Bars'. The guide assesses bars against eight areas of excellence including drinks, community and hospitality. This comes following a rigorous self-application process and anonymous in-bar reviews. Bars can receive one, two or three pins, depending on their level of excellence: One pin - Excellent Two pins - Outstanding Three pins - Exceptional Lab 22 - located on Caroline Street in Cardiff (CF10 1FG) - is among The Pinnacle Guide's list of the world's best bars. You can see the full list of the World's Best Cocktail Bars on The Pinnacle Guide website. Why Lab 22 is among the world's best bars Lab 22 is described by The Pinnacle Guide as a "decade-old staple in Cardiff's vibrant nightlife scene, blending its signature dark, atmospheric charm with an immersive cocktail experience". The Cardiff bar is known for its "innovative and interactive" drinks, the experts added. The Pinnacle Guide explains: "The main menu is crafted to suit a variety of palates, often encouraging guest participation in the experience. "Cocktails come presented in the likes of bell jars filled with smoke, inviting guests to complete the serve themselves, creating a memorable and tactile moment. "Other drinks feature interactive garnishes such as flash paper styled as a £50 note that guests are encouraged to set light to using branded matches." Each drink on the menu also features at least one Welsh-sourced ingredient, while there is usually a wide selection of Welsh whiskies, gins, vermouth and vodka on offer. Every drink on the Lab 22 menu features at least one Welsh-sourced ingredient. (Image: Tripadvisor) One of the most celebrated nights at Lab 22 is Moonshine Mondays where the bar turns into a "speakeasy-style" venue for a live jazz night. On weekends, the bar brings in a resident DJ, while during the week, there is a rotation of "carefully curated" playlists to help set the tone. The Pinncale Guide adds: "With a mix of hip hop, pop, and indie during the early evening, Lab 22 creates an ever-changing yet familiar atmosphere that welcomes both new visitors and returning regulars alike." Another key feature of Lab 22, according to The Pinnacle Guide, is its terrace - a small outdoor space that contrasts with the more moody interior. The experts explain: "It provides a quieter atmosphere where guests can still feel connected to the venue's overall vibe." Lab 22 also comes highly recommended by visitors, boasting a 4.7 rating (out of 5) on Tripadvisor from 672 reviews (at the time of writing). RECOMMENDED READING: One person commented: "Absolutely stunning cocktails! The bar staff really know what they are talking about and are very friendly. "Vibe is incredible, and well loved by locals. We were visiting on holiday but were recommended this by 2 separate people in shops.
