Longines Is Betting on Equestrian Sports
Formula 1 might be the racing sport on everyone's lips right now, but heritage timepiece brand Longines is focusing on one of the original speed sports: horse racing. The official timekeeper of both The Triple Crown and The Royal Ascot—the latter of which is taking place this week in Ascot, Berkshire, England—Longines has dedicated its time (pun intended) and money to the centuries-old pastime. The brand recently extended its already decades-long partnership with The Royal Ascot into 2030, which means five more years of a shared passion for prestige and precision. Longines has been a longstanding innovator in timekeeping, thanks to its focus on performance. In 1869, the house first produced a pocket watch with a horse motif, and in 1878 it developed its first performance-based chronograph movement. Since then, Longines has been a go-to fixture for equestrian judges and continues its legacy as even more modern technologies evolve. For the 2025 Ascot, Longines presented a new watch model, the Spirit Zulu Time 1925, a nod to the 100th anniversary of the brand's first dual-time zone wristwatch. This updated version, named for the military concept of 'Zulu time' and adorned with 18-karat rose gold, can actually track three time zones, celebrating both horological innovation and modern-day travel needs. As for the Ascot itself, the second race day of the week was filled with spirit and more importantly (to us) fashion. Polka dots—trending this season —bright florals, and fruit patterns (Amalfi Coast summer, anyone?) abounded, complete with matching hats and fascinators, of course, making for quite the day of elevated race fashion. William, Prince of Wales, presented prizes for The Prince of Wales's Stakes, though Princess Kate was not in attendance. The winners of the Ascot Stakes and Royal Hunt Cup, which are the biggest races of the event, will be presented with Longines timepieces as part of their prize.

Bringing George to Villa match in Paris is a big deal, William tells pundits
The Prince of Wales said bringing Prince George to Aston Villa's Champions League quarter-final in Paris was a 'big deal', as he spoke to pundits Ally McCoist and Rio Ferdinand. William said he was 'pretty terrified' and 'nervous' during the conversation at the Parc des Princes before the match against Paris St Germain on Wednesday, adding: 'I'm wearing all my lucky clothes.' The royal was pictured punching the air and hugging George, who was wearing an Aston Villa scarf, as he celebrated Morgan Rogers giving the Birmingham side a first-half lead. Asked by former England defender Ferdinand if he was on a 'lads tour' to the match with friends, William replied: 'Well, I've got my son here as well, so I'm on best behaviour as well. 'But I thought: You know what, it's been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition. 'I hope it's not 43 years until the next one happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and bringing him along tonight is a big deal for me.' Asked by the TNT Sports pundits whether he would make his children support Villa, William replied: 'I'm generally very open to whoever they support, but obviously I'm a bit biased. 'But also they come to games with Villa. They're going to probably support Villa, but I've left the other two at home, probably watching tonight, so we'll wait and see who they support.' William told the pundits that he was predicting a 2-1 victory for underdogs Villa, who ended up losing 3-1. The royal hugged some of Villa's players, including Marco Asensio and England international Marcus Rashford as they came out of the dressing room. After William discussed Villa's tactics and the 'intensity' of PSG's press, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand joked: 'Do not go for a punditry job, please, because I could be out of the game. 'The way he just dissected that there, I'm going to nick that for later on.' William said Villa manager Unai Emery was an 'absolute gentleman' and a 'lovely guy'. Discussing the Spanish coach, he added: 'He's an absolute tactician. 'I mean, I try when I get the odd chance to talk to him, to try and take some nuggets of information from him, but he's very guarded in what he says and how he does stuff.' William was in the crowd for Villa's victory over Bayern Munich earlier in the competition and away to Monaco in January.

William rides in tank on visit to British troops helping defend Estonia
The Prince of Wales rode in a Challenge 2 tank defending Estonia against Russian aggression after telling British troops he hoped his visit would 'keep everyone on their toes'. William travelled in the commander's turret of the tank as it sped across muddy terrain in Estonia less than 100 miles from the border with Russia. He is making a two-day trip to Estonia to strengthen UK ties with its Nato ally and support British forces stationed in the country as part of Britain's Nato contribution. He visited Tapa army base in northern Estonia in his role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Mercian Regiment, whose 1st Battalion took over Nato duties in Estonia from The Royal Dragoon Guards. When William arrived at the military base, the royal standard was flying alongside flags of Nato members. He was shown a selection of military vehicles including the Warrior, an infantry fighting vehicle, the Challenger 2 main battle tank, and the multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) on the parade ground. He spoke to soldiers stationed with each vehicle and at the Warrior, after asking the troops about their upcoming operational exercises, said of his visit to the base: 'Hopefully this provides a bit of interest for you all and what you're doing and keeps everyone on their toes.' Inspecting the French Griffon infantry fighting vehicle, William spoke to a group of French soldiers who also serve alongside British troops at Tapa, telling them 'It's good to have such an international partnership.' UK troops lead a battlegroup in Estonia and the 900 British service personnel in the country is the UK's largest permanent overseas deployment. Russia is seen as a growing threat in the region following its three-year invasion of Ukraine, and the Baltic states – Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia – which border Russian President Vladimir Putin's nation appear increasingly concerned. British forces are deployed to Estonia and Poland under Operation Cabrit, the UK's contribution to Nato's Forward Land Forces in the two countries.
