BBC Death in Paradise's Kris Marshall reunites with Love Actually co-star in new series

Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall has opened up on an unexpected reunion with his Love Actually co-star in the upcoming series of the hit detective drama. Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall has whipped up excitement amongst his followers by teasing a delightful on-set reunion with an old Love Actually cast mate in the incoming series. Whilst previewing the brand new instalments of Beyond Paradise down under, the actor playing the affable lead detective revealed this tantalising nugget during an interview. ‌ Jubilantly speaking on The Project last Sunday, Marshall unveiled that Abdul Salis - who portrayed his close companion Tony in Love Actually - has graced the enigmatic show with a special appearance, reports the Mirror. ‌ The 52-year-old celebrity was visibly thrilled about encountering Salis anew, despite it being more than two decades since they last acted together. "I had only seen him once in 24 years," he disclosed with sense of wistfulness. Contemplating the fortuitous twists often found in acting careers, he reflected poetically: "It's a beautiful thing about being an actor. You pick up where you left off. It's kind of symbiotic. I love it." With unmistakable glee about rekindling camaraderie with a former colleague, Marshall added: "So, he came in and did a guest thing and we're all a bit older and, you know, we're not very much wiser. We're all good." Although tight-lipped regarding the intricacies of Salis's role, Marshall couldn't help but insinuate, possibly exonerating Abdul's character from any foul play. With a suggestive tone, he began: "I don't think he's..." before giving himself to laughter, ensuring audiences stay in the dark for what Wales Online describes as a cheeky manoeuvre to avoid spoilers. Abdul has certainly left his mark, having portrayed paramedic Curtis Cooper on 'Casualty', and gracing screens with roles in renowned series such as 'Doctor Who', 'Father Brown', and most recently adding 'The Wheel of Time' to his burgeoning filmography. ‌ Kris and Sally Breton have recently offered insights into their new series, drawing from their real-life parenting to mirror the foster care experiences of their characters. While unpacking the intricacies of DI Humphrey Goodman and Martha Lloyd's foray into foster care, Kris revealed to HELLO!: "Parenting is often three steps forward, two steps back, and when you think you're winning, the rug gets pulled out from underneath you." ‌ ‌ Sally echoed those complexities by sharing reflections from her own life: "I understood getting it wrong. I understand thinking right, I'm getting somewhere, and then the next day, there's a new problem or another worry you've got on the shelf." She elaborated on the perpetual challenges of parenting, stating: "I understand that you never get to a point where you think: 'I've got this', and then absolutely haven't. And that is parenting in my experience." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Former Project star makes shock return to the show after quitting three years ago

Peter Helliar was back on The Project on Tuesday night. The comedian, who sensationally quit the current affairs series in 2022, appeared alongside series regulars Waleed Aly, Sam Taunton, Sarah Harris and guest star Kate Langbroek. While fans of the show were happy to see Peter back behind the desk, he was just dropping by to promote his new children's book, Detective Galileo. Peter admitted he felt a little unusual sitting in a spot on the desk normally reserved for guests. 'I used to be on this side of the desk, and then the last few times on that side, and now back on this side. I'm playing tennis with myself!' he joked. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Peter explained that his three sons Liam, Oscar and Aiden 'are 22, 20 and 16' so no longer the target audience for his kid's books. 'I still sit at the edge of their bed and read to them' he joked. 'They are less interested to hear my ideas, but they love it and they are supportive. I try to get in touch with my own inner child rather than talk to my kids about it'. It's not the first time Peter has returned to the show since his departure. Last year, he appeared on the desk alongside Michael Hing, Max Rushden and Sarah Harris. 'It's our globetrotting mate, Pete Helliar, on the desk!' the veteran was introduced, before explaining what brought him back to his old stomping ground for a guest appearance. 'I had to come back from Argentina because I've not put in my vote in for marsupial of the year' Peter, who had spent time travelling recently for The Amazing Race Australia, joked. 'The Wi-Fi wasn't good on the Inca Trail. I'm a hairy-nosed wombat guy. They twerk people to death'. Peter then settled right into the show, presenting stories and joking with the new cast like old friends. His fans were delighted, with several sharing their thoughts on social media. 'Great! You need to return permanently!' wrote one person while someone else said: 'Should be the co-host'. Peter earlier revealed the real reason why he quit The Project as the mass exodus from the struggling Channel Ten show continues. The 49-year-old announced he was leaving the show three years ago, and at the time explained he decided to quit following the departure of his co-host Carrie Bickmore. 'Carrie, you recently said that you are glad you're leaving The Project while you still love it and I still love the show. I really do,' he said. '[The Project] means a lot to me. It's done amazing things for me. I interviewed Luke Skywalker once... and I look forward to see what the show is in the future.' Peter also said he's excited to be moving into 'new areas' and didn't want to be 'a creator who leaves meetings to go to another meeting'. He also told Nova's Fitzy & Wippa that he wants to 'do things with my life professionally and personally'. '[There are] things I want to do with my life, not just professionally but personally and I've already booked into the ashes in London next year,' he said. 'It's not just 10 years on the project. But before that is like 10 years on Rove Live in the office every day.' The Project was rocked by two other high-profile exits in late 2022. Lisa Wilkinson announced she was quitting effective immediately, and long-time anchor Carrie confirmed her departure a month prior. 'I have decided it's time to reprioritise a few things in my life,' Wilkinson began alongside co-hosts Hamish Macdonald and The Bachelor's Laura Byrne. 'And after almost 15 years of the early alarm of breakfast TV, and now another five years here at The Project desk, I'm looking at how I want the coming years to play out both professionally and personally.' In October that year, Lisa's co-star Bickmore announced her departure from The Project after 12 years on air. Bickmore had been absent for a three month 'sabbatical' with her family in London earlier this year, before returning to the panel in July, only to quit in October.

INSIDE MEDIA: The show set to replace The Project

A video version of this article is available in the player above with vision of the interviews quoted. THE SHOW SET TO REPLACE THE PROJECT This morning, TV Blackbox posted quotes from an email sent by News Director Martin White confirming the appointments. INSIDE MEDIA understands Hitchcock had not revealed to Seven where he was going. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today 'Denham is a vastly experienced, internationally recognised story-breaker, and Amelia is a Walkley winner who has worked in Canberra and the United States,' the email by White stated. 'They will both be developing ideas for 10 News with Dan Sutton.' Respected reporter Dan Sutton is the executive producer of the unit, although INSIDE MEDIA believes this is not an investigation unit, but a new unnamed show. And while many are assuming that show will be weekly, something along the lines of 7NEWS Spotlight and 60 Minutes, I have reason to believe the show will be nightly. In fact, even though I have not been able to confirm it yet, I believe this will be the show to replace The Project when the contract with Roving Enterprises expires in a few months. The number of people already associated with this 'unit' already exceeds what would be needed for a once-a-week show. And it makes perfect sense for 10 to go down this path. Let's assume the deal between Channel 10 and Roving Enterprises is a $20 million a year. Network 10 could replace the low rating The Project with a new show for $15 million per year, easily saving a cool $5 million. And there certainly seems to be no love for The Project. Even on my personal TikTok account, a video I made about the future of the show has been viewed more than 26,000 times, with most comments saying the show should be cancelled. A Current Affair on Channel 9 is still one of the biggest shows on TV and Today Tonight was still rating strongly when it was replaced by the 1-hour format of 7NEWS. So, imagine if 10 decided to run a current affairs program at 6.30pm in the old slot formally occupied by ACA and TT. In that timeslot, those two shows were untouchable and were at the top of the ratings every night. That would mean 10 could solve its big issue surrounding The Project's ratings and the fact (as I mentioned last week) that 10 has to hand over all of its news vision to Roving Enterprises, but that company owns all The Project vision. It's a lopsided deal that doesn't make sense in 2025 when owning content is the key to financial success. This new show would allow 10 to once again own its content and might just be the kind of show audiences want at 6.30pm, after they've watched the first 30 minutes of news on Nine and Seven. As long as they don't make it 'worthy' like they did with the George Negus program during the 'news revolution' days and as long as they don't put it on at 6pm, this new show could actually be a gamechanger for the network. The big question then is, would it be 30 minutes or an hour? A 30-minute show would get them to 7pm, which would allow them to try something completely different and move their reality shows into that slot, getting a head start on Nine and Seven. Or they might elect to extend Deal Or No Deal by 30 minutes, but starting reality TV shows at 7pm could be the breaker the network needs. But would they take the risk? Only by taking a big risk do you get big rewards. Either way, here's my prediction: The Project will be off our screens before the end of the year and Channel 10 will launch a new nightly current affairs show. Remember you heard it first. THE FUTURE OF RADIO REVEALED On Saturday night I spoke to Brisbane radio legend Spencer Howson on my McKnight Tonight streaming show. Spencer has had a lot of success, including presenting Brisbane's number one breakfast show on the ABC for many years. Spencer is currently working on a PhD studying the value of local radio and, so far, his findings are quite unexpected. 'Already I'm, I'm seeing this research showing that people are just not as connected to their local town or their local region as they once were,' he told me. You can see my interview with Spencer in the video player above. His point is verified by the fact the number one breakfast show in Mount Isa isn't the local radio show but one beamed in from the Gold Coast – a 20-hour drive away. That same show from the HIT Network is also top of the charts in Toowoomba – a shorter 2-hour drive away. Traditional thinking has always been that 'local is king' but Spencer's research seems to show the opposite. 'People are getting their local information now from the WhatsApp chat of their street, the Facebook community group of their suburb' explains Spencer. But does the same rule apply in big cities? Kyle and Jackie O top the charts in their hometown of Sydney, but have failed to make their mark in Melbourne since their expansion on KIIS FM. Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee were two popular Melbourne identities who failed to resonate with Sydney audiences on 2DAY FM. So, is localism more important in big cities than in regional areas, even though it would be fair to assume the opposite was true? Having just completed 10 months of his 8-year PhD, there are certainly a lot of questions still to be answered by Spencer. SKY NEWS EDITING FAIL You have to feel sorry for Jack Houghton at Sky News. As the host of The Media Show, he holds the media to account, just like we do here at INSIDE MEDIA. So, imagine how embarrassed he must have been when a blooper that was meant to be edited out aired on his show on Friday night. Houghton was blasting the ABC after a clip was played of Sarah Hanson-Young appearing on the national broadcaster, but he fluffed his lines. 'Ah, sorry, can I redo this? It's two, two stumbles' he asked the control room. Thankfully, there were no expletives and Houghton kept his composure. The editor of the program didn't notice the fluff and kept it in. You can see what happened in the video player above. Here's an old trick for the folks at SKY: When you have a stuff-up, but black to line for a few seconds so that an editor quickly scrolling through can see something has gone wrong. It's obvious that whoever was editing this show was just skipping through and didn't pick up on the mistake. A little trick like this can save humiliation.
