Infiniti QX65 Monograph Concept Previews a New Fastback Midsize Crossover

Infiniti routinely reveals concept vehicles that are really just lightly disguised renditions of upcoming production models, adding "Monograph" to the eventual product's name to signify its imminence. This time, that fancy word is appended to the QX65 badge, a new nameplate that marks the return of the fastback-SUV silhouette to the brand's midsize offering. The not-quite-a-concept will be revealed at the 2025 edition of The Quail, an annual event that's part of Monterey Car Week. All about design Just as the Infiniti QX55 is the sporty-looking fastback sibling to the compact QX50, the QX65 is a slinky coupe-like utility based on the QX60 crossover. Aside from the modified roofline, there are few exterior design details that stray from the QX60 template. The QX65 gets a very similar front-end treatment, with headlights that appear to be lifted from the refreshed-for-2026 QX60, as well as a version of the bamboo-esque grille design that is instead inspired by the look of the plant when it's being blown in the wind.

Lexus Sport Concept Revealed in a Surprise Debut at The Quail

Lexus surprised onlookers at Monterey Car Week by showing off a new Sport Concept at The Quail. The new Sport Concept appears to be an evolution of the Electrified Sport Concept that Lexus teased in 2021. Lexus says that the Sport Coupe "blends dynamic and emotional elements into a vision for a next-generation sports car," but we're still in the dark about technical details and production plans. Monterey Car Week is an ideal setting for a surprise reveal, and Lexus has taken the opportunity to unveil a new Sport Concept this morning at The Quail. The rakish coupe is reminiscent of the Electrified Sport Concept that Lexus first teased in 2021, but features a more polished design that looks fit for production. The company has only given vague clues about the Sport Concept's overarching mission, stating that the "future-focused yet truly authentic sportscar signals the way forward for Lexus design." Its look is undeniably striking, with a low-slung silhouette and familiar checkmark headlights integrated into angular cutouts that bookend its front fascia. Lexus With only a few comments to work from, the Sport Concept's technical details are still up in the air. Lexus is currently working on another supercar dubbed the LFR, which is expected to feature a twin-turbocharged hybrid V-8 powertrain. With internal combustion covered on that front, we suspect that the Sport Concept is hiding an all-electric powertrain. Lexus When Lexus initially showed off its Electrified Sport Concept in 2021, the company projected a low-two-second 60-mph time and 430 miles of range courtesy of solid-state batteries. We'll have to wait for more information, but those could also be performance and range targets for the Sport Concept. Lexus Austin Parsons Associate Editor Austin's car fixation began at a young age and at 1:64 scale. Eventually, Hot Wheels weren't cutting it anymore, so he developed an obsession with his father's full-sized 1965 Ford Mustang instead. Desperate to break into the automotive industry, he bartered his way into a job at a local BMW dealership by promising to stop hurling nerdy technical facts at the salesmen who came into the neighboring coffee shop where he worked. That was also around the time when he started writing automotive reviews, news articles, and technical guides for a number of local and international publications. Now at Car and Driver, Austin brings more than 10 years of experience in the automotive industry and an all-so-common love-hate relationship with German engineering to the table. Read full bio

Infiniti Debuts Coupe-Like QX65 Monograph Concept at The Quail

The future QX65 SUV is previewed by the QX65 Monograph concept vehicle that Infiniti revealed at the 2025 edition of The Quail. Fans of the original Infiniti FX SUV will immediately notice a close resemblance in profile, as the QX65 features a long hood and fastback rear end. While the company says this is merely a design concept, we expect to see the production model roll out with styling that closely adheres to this prototype. Infiniti has officially unveiled the QX65, adding a two-row mid-size crossover to its lineup, an offering that has been missing since the discontinuation of the QX70 after the 2017 model year. The new boldly styled SUV draws its inspiration from the FX, which debuted for the 2003 model year and later changed its name to QX70 after a redesign. View Photos INFINITI A long hood, a steeply raked windshield, and a coupe-like roofline were hallmarks of the FX/QX70's design, and at the time Infiniti used the term "Bionic Cheetah" to describe the SUV's stance. The QX65 gives off similar apex-predator vibes, with muscular haunches and an aggressive front-end design featuring the brand's distinctive wavy grille. While technically a concept, we suspect the Monograph is a close prototype of what will become the production QX65, as Infiniti has a history of showing nearly-production show cars on stage at The Quail. In 2023, the larger QX80 SUV was previewed by the QX80 Monograph and later sailed through to production with only small tweaks to its design. View Photos INFINITI Nothing has been revealed of the interior, nor has Infiniti said what will power the QX65, but we suspect it is based on the same platform as the three-row QX60. That would mean a turbocharged four-cylinder is the likely powertrain, but like the brand's other SUVs, all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic will probably be standard. The Monograph rides on cool-looking 22-inch wheels that feature twisted spokes that give them a unique three-dimensional appearance. Other design highlights include a bronze-colored metallic trim strip that runs up and over the greenhouse and a full-width LED light bar for the taillamps that features vertical elements inspired by the tailfins of a jet airplane. View Photos INFINITI The concept is painted in a special color-shifting hue called Twilight. As the sun reflects off the surface from different angles, the color can take on a red, purple, or gold appearance. A gloss-black painted roof is divided from the body by the aforementioned bronze-colored strip. With the recent announcement that the compact QX50 and QX55 SUVs will no longer be produced, the QX65 will take up the position as Infiniti's smallest offering when it goes on sale, probably as a 2027 model. The QX65 is likely to be roomier and more premium inside than those models, but we also suspect it will cost more to start. We'll find out more about the production QX65 in the coming months and expect to see the real deal in early 2026. At that time, details about the SUV's interior, pricing, and features will likely be available. Track or Trail? Infiniti Shows Off Some Possible Variants of the QX80 SUV at The Quail

Infiniti revealed a pair of concept QX80 SUVs at the 2025 edition of The Quail to show off some possible variants of the brand's largest crossover. The QX80 Terrain Spec concept features more rugged styling, a raised suspension, and all-terrain tires. The QX80 Track Spec concept features a more aggressive look and a tweaked twin-turbocharged V-6 with more than 650 horsepower. Infiniti's biggest SUV is the QX80, and the posh three-row was just redesigned for the 2025 model year with an increased focus on luxury. Now, the brand is rolling out some special concept versions at 2025's The Quail during Monterey Car Week to explore what else the QX80 can do, starting with the Track Spec and Terrain Spec concepts. View Photos INFINITI Infiniti QX80 Track Spec concept. Track Spec: Hmm A Track Spec concept is certainly surprising for an SUV this size. We've driven the new QX80, and it's not a sporty thing. The concept looks the part, with quad exhaust pipes, a rear diffuser, and big 24-inch wheels. Infiniti says they've upgraded the performance too, with a revised twin-turbocharging system for the QX80's V-6 that raises horsepower above the 650 mark and boosts torque to over 750 pound-feet. Larger front Brembo brakes have also been added to help slow the QX80 Track Spec down. View Photos INFINITI Infiniti QX80 Terrain Spec concept Terrain Spec Is a Good Look The Terrain Spec concept looks badass and aligns more with the QX80's stout SUV platform. A raised suspension and unique wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires provide more capability than the standard model, and adventurous add-ons such as fender flares, a side-exit exhaust, and a roof-mounted light bar complete the look. A rooftop tent is also included, which seems to insinuate that the QX80 Terrain Spec is destined for overlanding duty. That's a far cry from the paved parking lot of the Napa Valley Four Seasons, the luxury hotel where Infiniti hosted the first drive event for the redesigned QX80 last year. Whether or not either of these concepts will make it to production as a special edition of the QX80 remains to be seen, but given that Nissan just launched a NISMO version of the Armada SUV—a corporate twin to the Infiniti—it does seem possible that a hotted-up version could be in the works for real.
