Coronation Street's Carla and Lisa future 'sealed' after sad proposal twist

Coronation Street's Swarla fans were gutted and disappointed to see Carla Connor's planned proposal to Lisa Swain fail on Friday, but what lies ahead for the couple? There was a "disappointing" twist for some Coronation Street fans on Friday night after hoping Carla Connor's planned proposal to Lisa Swain would be a success. But all it took was a comment about Lisa's late wife Becky and Carla halted it all. ‌ While Lisa gave her partner an opportunity to try again, unaware of the plan, having sensed something was up, Carla wasn't feeling it. Clearly disheartened and wanting it to be special, she confided in her nephew Ryan Connor who was on hand to support her. ‌ Ryan told her the proposal would happen at some point, and that she would think of something else. It comes as spoilers had hinted Carla would propose in The Rovers this week, leaving fans hopeful an engagement and then a Swarla wedding would finally happen. ‌ Unfortunately Carla's plan with the ring in a champagne glass had already been done for Lisa years earlier by Becky. This left Carla horrified, abruptly telling barmaid Glenda to stop the plan. The proposal did not happen, but what is next for the pair and will there be wedding bells? It's something that clearly they both want, and cast members including Lisa actress Vicky Myers and Betsy Swain actress Sydney Martin are also hopeful of. They both told The Mirror earlier this year how they'd love to head to Ibiza for a big Swarla wedding, while for now the couple are still finding their feet. The main thing is they are both ready to commit, having grown stronger than ever after recent dramas. With both having planned proposals now, it also means they both want to get married - and it's just a matter of timing. After recent pictures from filming appeared to show Lisa wearing a ring, fans speculated the proposal will come soon given Lisa is meant to have removed the ring from her marriage to Becky. ‌ Whether that is a confirmed engagement or not remains untold, and it's not yet clear when this park scenes will air. As for next week the focus moves away from their relationship and back to drama. That said they remain a united front, amid Lisa digging into what colleague Kit Green is up to and getting a warning from DI Costello, who fans are starting to believe is corrupt. Both Lisa and Carla have been keen to finally figure out what really went on with Becky before her death, so perhaps this is the answers and closure they need to fully move on, and perhaps this will be the marker for their hopefully next and last proposal. So while the storyline focus shifts back to Becky, the police drama, and Carla's chaos at the factory, not forgetting Lisa's bin wars with David Platt, there will be plenty more scenes with this family. The couple will undoubtedly get closer and stronger, and according to Carla's reaction on Friday, Lisa's clear happiness and Ryan's encouraging words, surely there will be a proposal at some point. Coronation Street's Carla reels over Ryan's unexpected admission before Lisa proposal

A Coronation Street spoiler video has revealed the moment Ryan Connor throws his aunt Carla Connor with a comment about her planned proposal to Lisa Swain on the ITV soap There's panic for one Coronation Street resident next week as they plan the ultimate proposal for their partner. A relative's admission about how big the gesture could be leaves Carla Connor reeling. ‌ With her planning on proposing to her partner Lisa Swain that same week, her ideas are left in array when Ryan's assumption about how it will go down leaves his aunt stumbling. It seems they have very different ideas about what the proposal will look like. ‌ It comes as spoilers reveal Carla plans to propose to Lisa in The Rovers next Friday, wanting the engagement ring dropped in a glass of champagne. Prior to the proposal day, Carla is thrilled when the ring finally arrives and is delivered to her new home with Lisa and Ryan. ‌ Ryan is equally buzzing over it all, having been let in on Carla's secret plan the day prior. Carla turns to her nephew as she discusses her plan to pop the question, months on from Lisa initially asking Carla to marry her. When Carla suggested the timing wasn't right, they both agreed it wasn't what they wanted. But months on and Carla is ready to return the favour, this time with her doing the asking. ‌ Lisa has no idea what's going on, as the preview clip shows the moment Carla shows Ryan the parcel containing the ring. He's excited for Carla, as he asks her if it's what he thinks it is. With it all becoming real, Carla grins as she shares her nerves over what she's planning, admitting she's never given anyone an engagement ring before. Ryan teases her about her romantic past before reassuring her that all will go well. ‌ Pointing out that Lisa had already asked her earlier in the year, Carla shares her worry that since then she may have changed her mind. But Ryan is on hand to remind her how much Lisa loves her, just as the detective walks through the door - preparing for her first day off desk duty. Spotting the parcel, Lisa questions Ryan about it and he has to think on his feet - pretending he's ordered some pants online. Carla's nervous that Lisa will figure out what's going on but manages to get her to leave the room. It's then that Ryan makes a comment that leaves his aunt clearly panicked. Assuming Lisa would want Carla to go all out with a big romantic gesture with the proposal, he comments on her getting down on one knee and making a fuss. Carla laughs this off making it clear she hasn't got that in mind, not expecting Lisa to want it either. When Ryan comments that "no woman ever" would say no to a fuss-filled proposal, Carla's visibly thrown and no doubt left questioning if her own ideas are good enough - but will she alter her plan? Coronation Street fans 'rumble' when Swarla wedding will happen amid proposal news

Coronation Street fans are convinced a Swarla wedding is on the way and on a particular day, after previous scenes with Carla Connor and Lisa Swain on the ITV soap A wedding could be on the way on Coronation Street amid news of one character planning a proposal next week. Fans say some clues in past episodes may give away that a New Year wedding is on the cards. ‌ According to a new theory, a close-up during a scene as well as script line could well hint at two characters tying the knot towards the end of the year. The pair are not currently engaged but fans are sure that could change very soon. ‌ It comes as spoilers confirmed that Carla Connor would plan to propose to partner Lisa Swain next week on the ITV soap, after she turned down Lisa's own proposal months ago. Carla will confide in her nephew Ryan Connor and soon a plan is in motion. ‌ Spoilers reveal that Carla will buy an engagement ring, and towards the end of the week she decides to pop the question. Keeping this from Lisa, she invites her for a drink after work at The Rovers. Carla arrives there early and asks barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth to slip the ring into Lisa's drink when she arrives. But will Lisa show up, and will the proposal go ahead as Carla hopes it will? ‌ Fans think the pair will get engaged at some point after a scene left them convinced that a Swarla wedding, the ship name loyal fans call the pair, is going to happen. In fact fans are so sure there will be a New Year's Eve wedding after spotting a potential clue in a past episode. Fans recalled how when Carla was in hospital, there was a magazine that featured an advert for wedding rings, with the mention of 2025. There was also a comment last New Year from Carla as the pair shared their hopes for the year ahead, with fans taking her words at the time as a hint. ‌ Taking to social media one fan said: "My theory is a NYE #Swarla wedding. Set up by Carla's line from last NYE, and a camera close-up on Bobby's magazine from one of Carla's hospital scenes where it said 'what's in store for 2025' alongside an advert for wedding rings." Another viewer said: "I second that…. that line is there for a reason," as a third fan said: "I third that." A fourth viewer posted: "WANT THE NYE wedding!! WITH NO DRAMA!" All Coronation Street spoilers for next week as a legend leaves

A conflicted Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) struggles to resist temptation as fireworks fly between her and Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) in Coronation Street next week. With Carl taking an interest in Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), Abi grows jealous, and struggles to keep her hands off as he moves in for a kiss. But what's Carl's game… and who's the mystery woman hanging around the garage? Elsewhere, Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) has a big decision to make when son Jason (Ryan Thomas) asks her to move to Thailand with him. But where does this leave poor George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley)? Meanwhile, Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) worries as son Dylan (Liam McCheyne) is released from the STC. With Dylan changed by his recent experiences behind bars, it's not long before he clashes with Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) again. Is Dylan headed down a dark path? Here's a look at all of the Weatherfield action next week… Eileen shows George and Jason an article by the Gazette on her phone, which implies that the business is involved in an insurance scam. Worried, he tells Todd (Gareth Pierce). But who was behind the article? Jason chats up Danielle (Natalie Anderson) in The Rovers. When he mentions his brother's name, Danielle is shocked, but manages to keep a straight face. Later, Jason suggests to Eileen that she move to Thailand to be his business partner. Will she agree? In an attempt to make Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) jealous, Tracy flirts with Carl at the garage. When he gets a text from Fiona arranging to meet, Abi assumes it's a girlfriend and grows jealous. Later, when Fiona arrives at the garage, Tracy overhears Carl describe himself as the boss. What does he have planned? A stressed-out Sean tells Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) that Dylan is home from the STC tomorrow. He warns her that he doesn't want any trouble. Will she agree? Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor) tells Tim (Joe Duttine) that she's enjoying having the house to themselves again. Guilty Tim says nothing about his fostering meeting. Later, Sally returns home to find the house spotless and Tim in his best shirt. When the doorbell rings, she's shocked to find a social worker standing there. Will she go along with Tim's plan? Watching Carl as he flirts with Tracy, Abi waits until he's gone and then tells her that he's a serial womaniser. Later, Carl confronts Abi over her interfering, and accuses her of fancying him. She denies this, and threatens to tell Kevin (Michael Le Vell) if he doesn't back off. He says that it's time she started being honest with herself… and moves in for a kiss. Eileen turns down Jason's offer of a move to Thailand, telling him that George would never agree to move. Later, when Jason repeats what Eileen said, George is thrown. He pays a visit to the cab office and tells her that he's prepared to move to Thailand – and has even booked them a holiday for tomorrow, so that they can check out the lay of the land. Elsewhere, Todd introduces Theo (James Cartwright) to Summer (Harriet Bibby) and Asha (Tanisha Gorey). Asha asks if Theo is his new man, leaving them both thrown. How will Theo react? Sean is keen to celebrate Dylan's release from the STC with a lunch at the bistro. However, Dylan counters with a low-key lunch at the café instead. When Brody enters the café, Sean promises Dylan that he'll protect him – but Dylan tells him that Brody's the one who should be worried. Afterwards, Dylan follows Brody into the ginnel… Tim fails to make amends with Sally. Hearing that the accounts at the pub are a mess, Sally offers to lend a hand. She tells Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) that Tim wants to foster a child, but is worried that they're too old. Can Glenda change her mind? Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) struggles counting out her change in the shop. When Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) offers to help, she snaps at him. With Millie having stayed the night, Eileen warns Todd that he might end up becoming responsible for her. Theo tells Millie that her mum wants her to come home – but Millie will only go back if Theo goes with her. He lets his daughter down gently, telling her that he can't live a lie anymore, and wants to be with Todd. Seeing Eileen's reaction to Theo's conversation with Millie, George worries about his relationship. When he confides in Steve, it becomes clear that he knows more than he's letting on. Later, Eileen tells George that the police have closed the case – and reveals that she's going to take Jason up on his offer in Thailand. But will George be going too? Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) tells Ed that she's focused on ensuring better training for midwives. He worries that it's too much too soon when she reveals how she's taken on a custody case. Later, she tells Daniel (Rob Mallard) that she knows it was the right decision to let James (Jason Callender) take Laila. As they head off, James climbs out of a taxi, carrying her daughter. Is she regretting her decision? More Trending Kevin notices how uncomfortable Abi seems when Debbie and Carl swing by with bacon sandwiches. When Debbie speaks of an unhappy customer at the garage, Carl shuts down the conversation, leaving Kevin suspicious. Later, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) thanks Ronnie for the loan of a drill. As he turns around, he sees Debbie watching them. Can he convince her to open up? View More » Sean tells Dylan that the college are willing to take him back. However, Dylan is dismissive. Later, he spots Brody, who is laying into Betsy (Sydney Martin) for reporting his shoplifting antics to the police. As he takes a step towards her, Dylan comes to her aid. Coronation Street star reveals Mick and Lou devastation after flashback episode

follow. Coronation Street star Farrel Hegarty has hinted at a dark future for nightmare couple Mick and Lou Michaelis. The chaotic pair take centre stage in a special flashback episode next week, which explores their secret backstory with local detective Kit Green. Soap bosses have cast three newcomers to play younger versions of Mick, Lou and Kit as we see them as teenagers in 2007. We recently caught up with Farrel for a chat about the big episode and where Mick and Lou go from here… What can fans expect from this special episode? "It's been so much fun to work on. A lot happens in the episode! We uncover exactly how Mick, Lou and Kit know each other. There's definitely a few skeletons in the closet, so those are going to come out. "We'll explore the reasons why the three characters are the way they are. I think it's quite rare that we get to look back and see that – we show what they've all been through and what's happened in the past. It's going to be really exciting to watch." Did you get to meet the three younger actors? "I did, really briefly. It was so odd because at one point it was the three of us and the three of them! "I didn't get to see any of the scenes being filmed, but I've read the script and I know what happens. I'll be watching the episode at the same time as everybody else, which is really exciting." Did you notice any similarities between you and Charlotte Alex-Riley, who's playing the young Lou? "Well, I guess I'll let everyone else be the judge of that! But if there are similarities, I'll take it as a massive compliment! "Charlotte is going to make a fantastic young Lou. She had such good feedback, from what people have said to me." In the present day, we see Kit quite taken aback when he comes face-to-face with Lou at The Rovers next week. Was Lou aware that Kit was living nearby? "Lou finding out about that happens off screen. But the first time you see Lou and Kit together, there's definitely a sense of shock because for her it's a blast from the past. They've not seen each other for a while. "What we'll discover is that Kit brings up a lot of things that Lou would rather forget – and a lot of things that she'd rather keep hidden, as well..." How is your time on the show going so far? "I'm loving it – it's going great. I'm lucky enough to work with Joe Layton, who plays Mick. We get on so well – it's great that we can do our scenes with ease! I'm loving every minute of it. "I'm also working every day with some Corrie legends, which is overwhelming at first! I've done quite a bit with Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey. She's just the loveliest woman. I'm just there beaming like a Cheshire cat when I'm in scenes like that. "I've also worked with Barbara Knox, who plays Rita. I actually got a picture of me and her when I was 5, when I came to the Corrie tour." What has the audience's reaction to Lou been like? "Lou doesn't have a 'girl-next-door' vibe. I wouldn't want to be best mates with her, so she's going to cause a mix of reactions. She's the sort of person who puts her family first. Unfortunately, that's the type of character who's going to burn bridges along the way. "I met some lovely Corrie fans outside the gates at the studio recently, who've been really excited to see new faces in there. They were especially pleased to see new faces who've come in all guns blazing. So it's been nice to speak with them." We're going to find out much more about Lou, aren't we? "Yes, I think that's all going to unfold. Why is she that hard-faced? Why has she become that sort of person? I think she's had difficulties – she hasn't had the easiest of starts. She does have that hard face on, but we will see a more vulnerable side to her as well." How would you describe Lou's relationship with Mick? "Lou is extremely loyal, but at times she definitely shouldn't be. Mick is all she's ever known and she's definitely got that 'stand by your man' attitude, where she'll turn a blind eye to a lot of things. "She's so besotted and loyal to Mick that she can't see right from wrong. Their relationship gets her in hot water." We'll see nicer sides to Lou as well. Is it fun to have those different aspects to explore? "Yes, I'm so lucky to play a role like this. I tend not to get cast as shrinking violets, if I'm honest – I must have one of those faces! But Lou is brilliant to play. "Some of her behaviour really makes me wince sometimes. I think she can be quite hot-headed and irrational. She speaks before she thinks and she protects her own, which gets her into trouble. "Lou does have a massive heart for the people she loves and she has good qualities. But I think, to a lot of people, she's loud, feisty and quite unreasonable at times." Are the scenes we've watched so far just the beginning of the devastation that Mick and Lou could cause? "I know it's the beginning! There's a lot more to come from these two, I'm afraid to say. I think there's a lot happening. "It's all about to come to a head. It's all about to implode. We're going to see a lot of Lou finding it hard to keep afloat and pick up the pieces. She's torn between head and heart a lot." Given her loyalty to Mick, does Lou have limits? Is there anything she wouldn't do? "There's probably not that much, which is actually quite sad to see. We're going to see that more vulnerable side to Lou, as she's torn between her head and heart and what is the right thing to do. "With Mick and Lou's relationship, he's got a way of always winning her round. We're definitely going to see more of the unhealthy side of their relationship and how Lou's love for Mick is quite blind. "Sometimes in relationships like that, it can be quite worrying that you do get taken over by a level of love for someone, rather than what's actually good for yourself. "It's definitely an important issue to think about. For a lot of people, we can look at relationships on the outskirts and go: 'Why is that happening? Should they be together? Is that healthy? Is that not toxic?' "But actually when you're in it, it's a different thing. It's not that easy for people in relationships that are unhealthy and at times unsafe." You always knew that you were joining . What attracted you to the part? "Lou really appealed to me because she's the sort of person who's never had it easy. She's built up a lot of coping mechanisms, where she's presenting a hard and feisty character with her walls up. "All she's ever known is these fiery relationships. She's probably had fiery relationships with a lot of people in her life, which is what makes a character like that so interesting. "I read scripts and I go: 'Oh God! What's she doing now? What's she saying now?' It's not a way that I would behave, and because of that, it's so much fun to play. "Lou has that desperation to protect her inner circle and because of that, she makes a mess of things..." Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
