Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Is Being Recruited To A Different Sport

Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Is Being Recruited To A Different Sport originally appeared on The Spun. Not that it's likely to happen anytime soon, but if Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham ever finds herself looking for work, a different sport is happy to give her a new opportunity. People have been impressed by Cunningham's size, personality and popularity for a while now. Among the many who see other career paths for her is professional wrestling promoter Dave McLane. In a recent appearance at Comic Con in San Diego, McLane spoke about the idea of both Cunningham and Caitlin Clark joining his Women of Wrestling (WOW) promotion. He said he watched Cunningham and the Fever compete against the Las Vegas Aces and loved what he saw from her. 'I'm from Indiana. I'm from Indianapolis, and that's the home of not only the second-best basketball team in the country this last year, but the biggest name in professional basketball today, Caitlin Clark. And Caitlin Clark has an enforcer. She's the Marty McSorley to Wayne Gretzky, and she is a stunning athlete,' McLane said, via The Daily Mirror. 'I flew to Las Vegas and watched them in action against the Aces, and I would love to have Sophia Cunningham in WOW, because she takes down the competition, and she makes sure that Caitlin Clark is safe on the basketball floor. We'd love to have Sophie in WOW.' McLane isn't the only one who would like to bring Cunningham into the fold though. He isn't the most prominent either. Longtime Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss recently took to X and echoed McLane's sentiment, declaring that she would "love" to have Cunningham join WOW. Buss has been a developer of the California-based wrestling promotion for many years. 'We would love to have @SophieCunning5 join us at @wowsuperheroes she is talented, dedicated and a fierce competitor!!' There are plenty of pro athletes who have made a successful transition into professional wrestling, though there are far fewer who went in from pro basketball. The number is smaller still for WNBA players or women's basketball players in general. If there's anyone who could break the mold though, it's Sophie Cunningham. Would Cunningham ever consider such a career change?Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Is Being Recruited To A Different Sport first appeared on The Spun on Jul 29, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.

Fans In Disbelief After Shocking Object Delays WNBA Game

Fans In Disbelief After Shocking Object Delays WNBA Game originally appeared on The Spun. Just when you think you've seen it all in sports, something truly absurd happens. With that said, Tuesday night's game between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream was delayed because a fan chucked an object onto the court. We're not kidding. During the fourth quarter of the Valkyries-Dream game, a fan launched what appears to be a green sex toy from their seat. It nearly hit Golden State guard Veronica Burton as she was dribbling the ball. Thankfully, no one was harmed during this incident. The score was tied 75-75 when the toy landed on the court. Although the Valkyries and Dream were heading towards a nail-biting finish, WNBA officials and security had to pause the final minute of the game. Several players on the Dream, including Jordin Canada, were visibly shocked that this actually happened. After all, it's not often that an object like this brings a sporting event to a screeching halt. As for WNBA fans, they're trying to figure out how someone even snuck this object into Gateway Center Arena. "How did they even sneak that into the arena," one person asked. "Somebody threw a sex toy on the floor in the middle of a WNBA game. This is DIABOLICAL," another person wrote. "OK I needed the context as to how it got there. Thank you! Now it's even more hilarious," a third person commented. "Carrying this with you to a sporting event in itself is ridiculous," a social media user pointed out. "You can't make this up," another user wrote. "That's a first for the WNBA." Unfortunately for the Valkyries, their 77-75 win over the Dream was overshadowed by this incident. The WNBA will most likely have to release a statement on this fan's behavior. In the meantime, the sports world is unleashing its thoughts on this truly absurd situation. 'So Proud' - Tennis Fans Celebrating Genie Bouchard's Big Career Win

'So Proud' - Tennis Fans Celebrating Genie Bouchard's Big Career Win originally appeared on The Spun. Former Wimbledon finalist Genie Bouchard isn't ready to retire just yet. Earlier this month, Bouchard announced that she'd retire after the National Bank Open in Montreal. It's the perfect sendoff for the 31-year-old Canadian, who was given a wild card for this year's tournament. Bouchard, who was once ranked as high as No. 5 in the world, faced Emiliana Arango in the first round of the National Bank Open. The home crowd wasn't sure what to expect, but Bouchard made her fans proud by defeating Arango 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Though it sounds too crazy to be true, Monday's win over Arango marked Bouchard's first WTA Tour victory since 2023. "I woke up this morning just telling myself, look I can't control the result, I just want to have a good attitude, have good fight and try to feel good with my shots, feel good with my game," Bouchard said after the match. "No matter what happens, I wanted to walk off the court having enjoyed that gritty battle. I enjoyed every second of it." On Tuesday night, Bouchard shared photos from her first-round win along with the caption "last night was a dream." Most of her fans sent her words of encouragement. "So proud!! It was like in the good ol days," one fan tweeted at Bouchard. "Keep being awesome Genie," a second fan said. "Bravo Genie," a third fan commented. "Well played Genie! Maybe you can extend the final dance at little more," another fan wrote. Speaking of Bouchard's final dance, she said she'd consider playing a bit more tennis if she wins the National Bank Open. "I told my family that if I won the tournament, I would come out of retirement," Bouchard said. Things won't get any easier for Bouchard, who'll face No. 17 seed Belinda Bencic. Does Bouchard have a bit more magic left in her racket? We'll find out on Wednesday night.'So Proud' - Tennis Fans Celebrating Genie Bouchard's Big Career Win first appeared on The Spun on Jul 30, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 30, 2025, where it first appeared.

'Thank Yous' Pouring In For Caitlin Clark's Foundation Tuesday

'Thank Yous' Pouring In For Caitlin Clark's Foundation Tuesday originally appeared on The Spun. Caitlin Clark has been sidelined for the past two weeks due to a groin injury, but that hasn't stopped her from being an inspiration to fans around the world. In 2023, the NCAA's all-time leading scorer founded the Caitlin Clark Foundation. She has already helped out local foundations and charities in Iowa over the past two years. "Caitlin's passion and joy on the court inspire her foundation's work off the court. The Caitlin Clark Foundation's mission is to uplift and improve the lives of youth and their communities through education, nutrition, and sports—three pillars Caitlin believes were foundational in her success," the foundation's mission statement reads. This past Monday, the All-Star guard for the Fever returned to Des Moines to help out the youth. She provided 500 backpacks full of school supplies for students at McCombs Middle School. Clark's incredible work this week was part of the grand opening for a new outdoor court McCombs Middle School. The court was funded by the Caitlin Clark Foundation and Musco Lighting. Unsurprisingly, basketball fans praised Clark for once again making an impact through her foundation. "This is what it's all about! This is bigger then basketball and she understands that," one fan commented on Instagram. "Thank you Caitlin," another Instagram user wrote. "Shoutout to Caitlin Clark and her foundation for helping the marginalized, underrepresented communities in her home state of Iowa," one fan said. I love to see Caitlin giving back, especially to the youth," another fan said. Clark finished this trip to McCombs Middle School by getting some shots up with a few kids. "It's always fun for myself to come back here and be in Des Moines. Obviously, this place means so much to me, and I hope to be able to continue to come back here and do this every year," Clark said, via Hawkeyes Wire. Kudos to Clark for truly using her platform to make a difference.'Thank Yous' Pouring In For Caitlin Clark's Foundation Tuesday first appeared on The Spun on Jul 29, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.

Sports Fans Celebrating Cameron Brink's Highly-Anticipated WNBA Return

Sports Fans Celebrating Cameron Brink's Highly-Anticipated WNBA Return originally appeared on The Spun. It's been a long road back for WNBA star Cameron Brink but she's finally been given the green light to return to the floor following last year's season-ending ACL and meniscus tear. 13 months after her promising rookie year ended prematurely, the 6-foot-4 LA Sparks forward has officially been listed as active by the team. Clearing the decks for Brink to make her 2025 debut in tonight's game vs. Las Vegas. The former No. 2 pick was averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.3 blocks per game before suffering the injury on June 18. And in the 15 contests she was able to play in she had already proved to be a strong defensive force in the middle of the paint. "Cameron Brink returns tonight 👏" the WNBA posted. Fans were happy to have her back on X. "Let's go Cam!!! 💪🏻💪🏻" Lindsey Vonn replied. "Can't wait to watch 🙌🏼" a user exclaimed. "I'm ready to watch her dominate," a fan said. "Sparks have a full, complete, and healthy roster! That's all that matters! Please don't put too much pressure on Cam~ just happy she's well enough to hit the court!" another person commented. "We will be watching," another user stated. "welcome back Cam!!!" "My favorite player is back!" another fan shared. "Let's go!" Brink will more than likely be on a minutes restriction for the foreseeable future but says she can't wait to be back out there with her ladies. "It means the world," Brink told sports reporter John W. Davis yesterday. "I'm just very excited, very humbled by this experience. It's no easy thing to come back from. Just really excited." The Sparks are currently 11-14 and just 1.5 games out of the fourth seed in the West. Adding Brink to the mix should only help LA's chances; but it's understandably going to take some time for her to get back to the play we've become accustomed to since her days at Fans Celebrating Cameron Brink's Highly-Anticipated WNBA Return first appeared on The Spun on Jul 30, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 30, 2025, where it first appeared.
