Beech High's Braden Cole named The Tennessean Student of the Week for seniors

After a week of voting, Beech High School's Braden Cole has emerged as The Tennessean Student of the Week honoring seniors. Cole is described as an exceptional young man and student. He is said to be one of the most natural born leaders that staff has had come through Beech High School. 'He is always quick to take on any responsibility asked of him and executes that responsibility with perfection,' said Beech High School Counselor Christy M. Croft. Besides being student body president, Cole was also chosen as a Beech Patrol leader. In this role, he helps cultivate school spirit among the students, Croft noted, adding that he attended sporting events and led the student section to cheer on the teams. Cole has also been an invaluable DECA member and competed at the state level, where he won all three years and earned a bid to Nationals, she said. 'He has been an integral part of our Shackle Island community and will be greatly missed when he graduates,' Croft added. So here's a little bit about our other nominees from this week, as written by those who nominated them: Dunn comes to school each day with a positive attitude towards students and staff. He is the type of student that, if all were as good as he is, would put all principals out of business because he is that outstanding! Dunn is the most respectful student I have ever encountered. A truly Outstanding Senior! Gomez Ceba exemplifies academic excellence as the valedictorian and a distinguished Bell Tower Scholar. Beyond her achievements, she consistently supports her classmates and fosters a positive, peaceful environment throughout the school. Her leadership, kindness, and dedication make her an outstanding choice for this honor. Fuller is a well-rounded student who shines both in and out of the classroom through his involvement in football, e-sports, and yearbook. He consistently stays on top of his assignments and demonstrates strong responsibility and dedication. With his infectious school spirit and positive attitude, Cleveland is truly a joy to work with and a perfect choice for this honor. Sims is the definition of a gentle giant — bringing intensity and focus to the football field while remaining quiet and respectful in the building. He maintains straight A grades and leads by example, consistently motivating both his teammates and fellow seniors. His balance of strength, humility, and academic excellence makes him an outstanding choice for this honor. Fairview High's Hailey Hughes named The Tennessean Student of the Week for cheerleaders

Hailey Hughes, a senior cheerleader at Fairview High School After a week of voting and more than 1,500 votes, Fairview High School's Hailey Hughes has emerged as The Tennessean Student of the Week honoring cheerleaders. Hughes, a senior described as one of the most well-rounded individuals her teacher has ever met, was recognized as a four-time UCA All-American cheerleader and member of the Tennessee All-State cheer team. Advertisement She's also received four UCA pin in forward awards for her leadership and willingness to cheer on everyone around her, school officials said. One of Hughes' teachers wrote that she "is an A student who is spoken highly of by all her teachers and peers. She will be greatly missed upon her graduation due to the impression she has had on our program." So here's a little bit about our other nominees from this week, as written by those who nominated them: Teygan Williams: Innovation Academy Williams is one of our graduating cheerleaders who always worked for the betterment of the squad. She is selfless and always encourages our new cheerleaders to reach new heights by setting personal goals and supporting them along the way. As a first-year cheerleader, she was named All-American, and also serves as our scholar body vice-president, school ambassador and senior Beta treasurer. Ava Mason: Summit High School Mason is a very athletically talented cheerleader who leads her team with grace. She recently accepted an offer to cheer at Western Kentucky University. Cheyenne Curry: Greenbrier High School Curry is a dedicated student who maintains a 4.0 GPA in the classroom while cheering for football, basketball and cheer competitions. She is also a part of various organizations such as Future Farmers of America, National Beta Club and Student Council. She has a heart of gold and helps anyone at any time and always encourages those around her. Laura Hobbs: Wilson Central High School Hobbs is a senior cheerleading captain at Wilson Central who has recently signed with Cumberland University to continue her cheerleading career at the collegiate level. In addition to cheer, Hobbs is an accomplished member of the track team, excelling as a discus and shot put thrower. As a multi-sport athlete, Hobbs effectively balances her athletic commitments with her academic responsibilities, showcasing her exceptional time management skills. Last year, she secured first place in Life Support Skills and showcased her talents at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas. Most recently, Hobbs achieved third place in Life Support Skills, which qualifies her for the HOSA International Leadership Conference once again this year, this time in Nashville, Tennessee. Aniyja Andrews: Springfield High School Andrews has faced every challenge and struggle with positivity and a smile. Even during her lowest points personally, she was everyone's encouragement and friend. She is always pushing herself to excel, to serve others, and to enjoy life as it comes. She is a person of integrity and honor. In addition to cheerleading, Andrews is a key member of the Springfield High School Theatre department, recently playing a lead role in the spring musical Shrek. Isabella Repath: Heritage High School Repath is a current junior who has been cheering for Heritage for the past 6 years (including her 6th grade year). She not only is active in our sideline squad, but also is an integral part of our competition team and does All Star with CheerVille. Additionally, she is on three different cheer teams, and also coaches a younger team through CheerVille. Repath is an A student who is taking advanced level classes and is also Junior Class secretary. Kyla Parker: Gallatin High School Parker is a vibrant senior at Gallatin who has spent the last four years making her mark as a dedicated and spirited cheerleader. Known for her energetic presence and bright personality, Parker has been a natural leader on and off the field, consistently encouraging her teammates and lifting others with her support and positivity. She has maintained a solid 3.2 GPA while balancing academics, athletics and work, while managing a hectic cheer schedule. This fall, Parker will take her talents to Western Kentucky University, where she plans to major in nursing. Sarynn Thompson: Stewart County High School Thompson is a cheerleading captain, salutatorian, and has won gold in FCCLA STAR events. She is an exceptional student that sets the standard for academic, character and extracurriculars at SCHS. Tasia Buchanen: Rossview High School Buchanen has been on the JV Cheer team the last two years, serving as one of the captains during the 2024-25 school year and will be on the Varsity Cheer team beginning in the 2025-26 school year. She will also serve as one of the Varsity co-captains. Buchanen stands out for her unwavering school spirit, dedication and ability to uplift others both on and off the field/court. She demonstrates teamwork, discipline and a positive attitude, inspiring her peers through energy and enthusiasm. Her commitment to excellence and ability to balance academics with extracurriculars makes her a role model within the school community. Gallatin High's Aidynn Oden named The Tennessean Student of the Week for dancers

After a week of voting and more than 18,800 clicks in the poll, Gallatin High School's Aidynn Oden has emerged as The Tennessean Student of the Week honoring dancers. Oden, a sophomore, is a member of Gallatin's award-winning Wavettes dance team and is currently enrolled in the school's dance program. She and her team recently competed at the National Dance Alliance High School Dance Nationals in Orlando, Florida, where they placed 5th in Hip Hop and 8th in Game Day. One of Oden's teachers wrote that she is an assistant choreographer for the dance program's spring concert, and that she's not only a leader in dance, but also "in the classroom" at Gallatin High School. As part of The Tennessean Student of the Week series, we ask teachers, staff and administrators to send us their nominations, and then we let you, the reader, decide who wins by casting votes in our online poll. This week, we asked schools from across Middle Tennessee to send us their best dance students. We got nominations for hip-hop and ballet students and everything in between. We will be taking a short recess for spring break after this week, as many of our schools will be doing the same, but we will return with a new poll on April 7. Be sure to mark your calendar now because you won't want to miss out. The April 7 poll will feature students who excel in E-Sports, but first, let's revisit the dancers from this week. As always, we believe every student who gets nominated for the Student of the Week feature is a winner. So here's a little bit about our other nominees from this week, as written by those who nominated them: The senior has danced her whole life at her local studio and throughout her matriculation in high school. During her sophomore year, Procter suffered a tear in her shoulder that caused surgery and 6 weeks off. She didn't let that stop her, though. She came back stronger than ever! The junior has been on the dance team since she was freshman. Goggin is such a devoted team member and incredibly talented dancer. She not only performs on the dance team but dances on a competition team with American Academy of Dance in Hendersonville. The senior has been training to dance since the age of three at Dance Force. As soon as she was eligible, she joined both her middle school and high school dance teams. Johnson has been a committed varsity member of the RHS dance team for four years and now serves as captain. Throughout all four years of high school, she has balanced the demands of competitive dance while maintaining her focus on education and leadership. Her commitment, discipline and passion exemplify the qualities of an outstanding student-athlete. The senior has danced for roughly 11 years with nine of those being competitive. She has been a part of the Mount Juliet High School Dance Team (MJDT) for the past 3 years and served as a captain this past season. This past season, her hip-hop routine once again placed 7th in the nation. She was also awarded the DTU Pro award this past season at DTU Camp, a three-day dance summer camp through the competitive circuit Dance Team Union. After high school, she plans to attend a four-year university and major in sustainability studies. The senior has been a member of the dance team for 4 years and is currently a captain. She has overcome a lot in her 4 years on the MCHS dance team and has battled her way back from injury. She was recently named an All American at Universal Dance Association dance camp. This year she also helped lead her team to placing 6th place in nationals in the hip-hop division.
