From Suplexes to Sixteens: John Cena's ‘You Can't See Me Album,' 20 Years Later
When John Cena dropped his 2005 debut album, You Can't See Me, critics wondered if the wrestling powerhouse had more brawn than bars. What began as a perceived gimmick evolved into a two-decade-long run, marked by unfiltered charisma, sharp wit and unshakeable confidence. Sure, his popularity and in-ring dominance made him box office gold, but when he unleashed his mic skills — especially over Jake One's soulful beats — Cena cemented himself as the godfather of the rap-wrestling crossover. Released on May 10, 2005, You Can't See Me — a collaboration with his cousin, fellow rapper TradeMarc — debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200, also reaching No. 3 on Top Rap Albums — proof Cena had real appeal on the mic. Even while locking up with heavyweights like Triple H, Randy Orton, and The Undertaker each week, Cena carried that same grit and resilience into the booth. On tracks like 'Just Another Day' and 'If It All Ended Tomorrow,' Cena's raw candor and introspection made him surprisingly easy to root for. As he raps on the latter: 'You the new kid, now you gettin' some shine/ When every vet sayin' that it's not yo' time/ My hustle is non-stop and it's not yo' grind/ Plus I hear very clear, I'm not so blind.' More from Billboard Alice in Chains Cancel Tour After Drummer Sean Kinney's 'Medical Emergency' - UPDATE 'Monster' Hit: Volbeat Tops Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart Jackson Wang Talks Inspiration for 'MAGIC MAN 2': 'What Do I Want to Say as a Person?' And though Cena was dubbed WWE's Superman, his rap heroics on You Can't See Me became every critic's kryptonite. His bravado and swagger leglocked the doubters into submission. The album's title track became his armor — its hook both a taunt and a shield — as he swatted away skepticism with a single phrase: 'You can't see me.' The song became both a gift and a curse: a champion's anthem and rallying cry, but also a punchline for detractors who turned it into an easy jab, diminishing Cena even as he continued to dominate. Now on his final lap as a professional wrestler, Cena's recent partnership with Travis Scott — rap's latest generational leader — speaks volumes about his influence across both arenas. WWE is in the midst of a renaissance, with pop culture once again reinvigorated by its presence. Hip-hop's footprint in the ring is larger than ever: WaleMania just celebrated its 10th anniversary at WrestleMania, while wrestlers like Montez Ford and Trick Williams proudly showcase their rap chops with original music, and genre superstars like Drake, Metro Boomin, Lil Yachty, and Quavo now flood wrestling arenas with the same fervor and excitement as the everyday diehards beside them. Much of this stems from Cena's early efforts to meld both worlds — what began as a desperate bid to save his WWE career ended up bridging a gap between music and wrestling, one that remains tightly connected to this day. And while we may never get another album from the 48-year-old multi-hyphenate, You Can't See Me still deserves a spin — for everything it gave to hip-hop, wrestling, and pop culture at large. RJ City Is Still Not ‘All Elite', But He Just Got The Next Best Thing
RJ City works for All Elite Wrestling. He hosts a great YouTube show called 'Hey! (EW)' on the weekends. Tony Khan has also credited him as being his 'right-hand man' for launching the incredibly successful 'Timeless' Toni Storm character and storyline with Mariah May. However, RJ City is still not truly 'All Elite' because he never got a graphic on social media. Advertisement That's right, the man who once drank coffee in his underwear with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin is still not completely Elite. AEW's Chauffeur Boz aimed to fix that. Boz has been responsible for getting many surprise AEW debuts to the arena. He's driven names like Saraya, Kazuchika Okada, Shelton Benjamin and a recent addition in Josh Alexander. Boz wanted to do something nice for the graphic-less RJ City, and gave him a ride and one of his customary 'how it's going' shout-outs on social media. 'Sometimes us drivers like to do good deeds…since @RJCity1 never got his AEW graphic, I figured I'd do the best I could for him after an amazing #AEWDoN #AEW,' Boz wrote on Twitter/X. Advertisement Don't worry, RJ. Willem eventually saw the sailboat, and we're sure you'll get an All Elite graphic one day too. 4 WWE Undertaker dream matches for the modern-era wrestlers
Image via WWE A match with The Undertaker for the modern era wrestlers would have been a dream showdown. The Undertaker will go down in the WWE history books as one of the greatest superstars of all time. His three decades of destruction, captivating character and impressive in-ring style has made him one of the most respected and renowned figures in professional. After thirty years of competing as an in-ring performers, The Phenom retired after his last match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36. However, had he still been an active competitor, here are the top four superstars who would have proven to be a formidable challenge for The Undertaker. 4. Damian Priest Damian Priest has been very much open about the influence of The Undertaker on his wrestling career. Priest has been called as the modern day Taker and even 'bisexual Undertaker' by others on social media. Moreover, Priest uses Taker's Old School and Chokeslam moves in his own way in the ring. Had The Undertaker still been wrestling, a match against Priest would have been a dream come true for the young and rising star. 3. Drew McIntyre Drew McIntyre has shared the ring with The Undertaker a few times in his WWE career. However, he did it long before he became a too attraction for the Stamford-based promotion. Amidst his rise, he did battle The Undertaker in a tag team match at the 2019 WWE Extreme Rules event, but never a singles bout. So, he would have proven to be a challenge for The Undertaker in the modern era. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch Bitcoin và Ethereum - Không cần ví! Moreover, Rollins was at the peak of his career when Taker was active on the roster, but never got to share the ring with The Demon from Death Valley. A match between Seth Rollins and The Undertaker would have been an exciting affair in the modern era as Taker had always put up stellar showdowns against more opponents more agile and smaller than his him. 1. Cody Rhodes Much like Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes has shared the ring with The Undertaker in the past. However, as the flagship WWE star and at the top of his game, fans never witnessed that spectacular showdown between Rhodes and Taker. With both superstars in their prime and as active performers, Rhodes and Taker would have produced one of the greatest in-ring matches of all time. The Undertaker wins new WWE championship at 60 without stepping in the ring
Image via WWE The Undertaker may have retired from in-ring competition years ago, but his presence in WWE remains as powerful as ever. At 60, the legendary superstar has now added a new accolade to his storied career - being crowned the first-ever WWE LFG Champion . The Phenom, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022, served as a mentor on the debut season of WWE Legends & Future Greats (LFG), a talent-scouting reality show that brings together WWE legends and aspiring wrestlers. The show's finale, aired on May 18, saw rookies battling it out for a chance to earn WWE NXT contracts. While the spotlight was on the newcomers, it was The Undertaker who walked away with the brand-new title. Coaching success leads to surprise title win The final four featured two male and two female competitors, each mentored by different WWE veterans. While Booker T, Bubba Ray Dudley, and Mickie James had one or no representatives in the finals, The Undertaker stood out with two protégés - Tyra Mae Steele and Shiloh Hill, both advancing to the last round. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ótimas notícias para os cidadãos brasileiros! Leia mais Undo With more finalists under his wing than any other coach, The Deadman was awarded the LFG Championship by none other than Shawn Michaels, who made a surprise appearance to present the belt. Though Tyra Mae Steele (Team Undertaker) and Jasper Troy (Team Booker T) were declared the overall winners, it was The Undertaker's coaching dominance that earned him the LFG crown. The belt, designed specifically for the show, recognizes the winning coach, not an in-ring competitor. It's a symbolic title, but one that has stirred excitement among fans nonetheless. Is The Undertaker coming back to WWE? Despite the new championship, WWE has confirmed that The Undertaker is not returning to in-ring action. While fans online began speculating about a possible comeback, the 60-year-old has repeatedly stated that his body is no longer suited for active wrestling, despite occasionally feeling the urge to compete again. His latest win may not have come inside the squared circle, but it reinforces the legend's ongoing influence in the company. By mentoring new talent, The Undertaker continues to shape WWE's future - not with chokeslams or tombstones, but with guidance and experience. For now, the Deadman rests in retirement - as a champion once again. Former WWE Superstar Snuck Backstage At AEW Event
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Former WWE Tough Enough winner Maven Huffman recently shared an entertaining video on his popular YouTube channel, documenting what he humorously portrayed as an attempt to "sneak" backstage at an AEW Collision event. The footage captures his journey through an All Elite Wrestling show in New Jersey. In the video, despite not being an official AEW employee or possessing credentials for the event, Maven successfully navigated past an initial security checkpoint. He convinced a guard that he was part of the talent roster, thereby gaining access to the talent parking area. Maven documented his exploration through the production and TV truck zone. He eventually entered the main backstage area of the AEW Collision taping. Once inside, he had a friendly encounter with his old friend and former WWE colleague, Billy Gunn. The two veterans were seen reminiscing about their time working together at WrestleMania 18. During his unauthorized tour, Maven also met several other AEW personalities. These included interactions with former AEW Women's World Champion Thunder Rosa and commentator Josh Mathews. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - OCTOBER 11: A WWE logo is shown on a screen before a WWE news conference at T-Mobile Arena on October 11, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was announced that WWE wrestler Braun Strowman will face heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury and WWE champion Brock Lesnar will take on former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at the WWE's Crown Jewel event at Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on October 31. The entire venture was presented with a lighthearted and adventurous tone for his channel's content. More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation Maven Huffman first rose to prominence in the wrestling world as the co-winner of WWE's inaugural season of the reality competition series Tough Enough in 2001. This victory secured him a coveted WWE contract. His most enduring WWE moment occurred early in his career at the 2002 Royal Rumble. As a rookie, Maven famously delivered a dropkick that sent The Undertaker over the top rope, shockingly eliminating the legend from the match. This audacious act led to The Undertaker's brutal post-elimination assault but significantly elevated Maven's profile. It even propelled him to capture the WWF Hardcore Championship on three occasions, once by pinning The Undertaker on SmackDown with assistance from The Rock and Al Snow. Throughout his WWE tenure, which lasted from 2001 to 2005, Maven was often cast as an underdog. He teamed with his former Tough Enough trainer Al Snow and had memorable interactions and matches against top-tier stars like Chris Jericho and Evolution, even challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship. Despite these notable moments, Maven was released from WWE in July 2005. He has since attributed his relatively short run to issues with immaturity at the time. In recent years, Maven has experienced a resurgence in popularity through his candid YouTube channel. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.
