Griffiths Racing mourns Moonee Valley legend Dandy Kid
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. The Robbie Griffiths stable is lamenting the loss of a stable favourite that became an integral part of history at The Valley. Griffiths Racing confirmed the passing of the former smart sprinter Dandy Kid, who won a record 15 races at The Valley in a terrific career that included 19 wins from 87 starts between 1999 and 2006. 'He was an amazing horse to everyone,' Griffiths said. 'To race for eight years, everything changed so much and there were weddings, kids and grandkids among the ownership group while he was racing.' Dandy Kid died just short of his 29th birthday in a year in which racing will cease under the current configuration at The Valley as the track undergoes redevelopment. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. Griffiths said he and the late form expert Deane Lester picked out Dandy Kid from a paddock at Berrigan but the stable favourite spent most of his life in Cranbourne and spelling at Cloverdale agistment property that was operated by the late sports broadcaster Drew Morphett and his wife Kaz. 'He retired to that property and lived there for the last 19 years of his life,' Griffiths said. 'He was beautiful and sound all the time he was enjoying retirement. He never needed the vets, just the stock-standard maintenance a horse needs. 'He started his career as a winner of his first four and he finished as a winner as a 10-year-old. 'They can't beat his record at Moonee Valley now as the track is changing. 'I'm glad he chose Moonee Valley to be great at, not Manangatang.' • O'Brien star shakes up Melbourne Cup market after Curragh romp Dandy Kid was also good enough to win the Listed Vain Stakes during his run of four straight wins to start his career. He also claimed the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield in 2000, beating that year's Newmarket Handicap winner Miss Pennymoney. Seven riders won on Dandy Kid with the now Queensland-based jockey Ryan Maloney topping the tally with five wins on the grand sprinter while Rikki Cartwright was aboard for the gelding's first four wins. Griffiths said Dandy Kid was a handful on the training track but a great horse for apprentices to ride early in their careers, noting several Group 1-winning jockeys, including Luke Currie and Craig Newitt, won on the speedster as apprentices. 'He was a prick to ride at trackwork,' Griffiths said. 'I'd ride him in all his gallops and he'd pull like crazy. But he was a gentleman on raceday. 'Not many senior riders rode him but some superstar jockeys won on him as apprentices.' Originally published as Moonee Valley win record holder Dandy Kid dies aged 28

Andy Cohen supports Jax Taylor's decision to quit The Valley
Andy Cohen has welcomed Jax Taylor's decision to quit The Valley. The 46-year-old star recently announced that he was walking away from the reality TV series in order to focus on his sobriety, and Andy has now voiced his support for Jax's decision. Andy, 57, told People: "I think it's a good decision. I think he needs to work out s*** without cameras around." The TV host believes Jax is "very committed" to his sobriety journey. Andy actually spoke to Jax off-camera about how to rebuild his life and his relationship with his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright. Andy said: "This comes up at the reunion — I have kind of a serious conversation with him about his need for control and his anger issues, and what it's going to take to get to a better place with Brittany and in the world. And I hope he takes the time to lean into this, away from the cameras." Jax recently confirmed that he was quitting The Valley. The reality star confirmed he won't be part of the third season of the Bravo show following an "incredibly challenging" year, which saw him split from Brittany - the mother of his four-year-old son Cruz - and subsequently check into rehab for mental health and addiction treatment. Jax told Us Weekly: "After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I'll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley. "Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and co-parenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son, Cruz." Jax previously admitted that he's been battling a cocaine addiction for more than 20 years. He said on the Hot Mic podcast: "I have substance issues - primarily with cocaine. It's hard to say out loud. I've been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I'm 45. "There was times where I would stop doing it but then there were times where I'd go heavy on it. "I just want to let people know this is a really, really tough disease and it's a really tough sickness."

Jax Taylor Leaving ‘The Valley' After Two Seasons To Focus On Sobriety
Jax Taylor has confirmed he will be leaving The Valley after Season 2. The Vanderpump Rules alum says that he will focus on his sobriety following his exit from the Bravo series. More from Deadline Jax Taylor Teases 'The Valley' Season 2 Will Show Him At His 'Most Vulnerable State' & Reveals How He Deals With Social Media Criticism 'The Valley' Season 2 Cast Photos, Trailer & Premiere Date Set At Bravo 'Real Housewives Of Atlanta' Alum Kandi Burruss To Receive The Wifetime Achievement Award At BravoCon 2025 'After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I'll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley,' Taylor said in a statement shared by Bravo's The Daily Dish. 'Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself – especially for our son, Cruz.' Taylor's struggles with sobriety were a main storyline for him in The Valley Season 2. The reality TV personality opened up about using substances and checked himself into rehab at the beginning of Season 2. Although Taylor was away in a rehab center, he communicated with several of his co-stars via text messages. He even monitored his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright, through a security camera system in their shared home. Following his stint in the rehab center, he joined the filming of the show where his problems with Cartwright continued to be the focus. Ahead of the Season 2 premiere on Bravo, Taylor opened up about seeing the dark place he was at at the beginning of the season. 'It's night and day,' Taylor told Deadline. 'I watch a lot of reality TV [and] I don't think I've ever seen a season like this in my life, especially for me — [this has been the] hardest year in my life. The last thing I want right now is for people to see what they're about to see.' Taylor continued: 'You're going to see me at my most vulnerable state. You're going to see me at rock bottom. You're going to see me hanging on by a thread. It was very, very tough for me. That first episode is bad. Episode 2 — [it's] really bad, really bad.' Although Taylor said he considered not filming Season 2 of the reality series, he also wanted to share this side with viewers. 'It crossed my mind,' he said about stepping away from The Valley. 'But you know what? I have a disease, and I think [what] is going to come out of this is going to make me a better person. I think you got to look at the silver lining of this, and it's a sickness, and it's something that I have to work on for the rest of my life, and it's made me a better person. You gotta remember what you're seeing was shot a year ago. Things are different. Friends are different, dynamics are different. I'm not that same person anymore. But I watched the episode and I saw that human being, that shell of a man, that disgusting person that I was, and I let myself become something that I despise.' Jax Taylor leaving The Valley
Jax Taylor is leaving The Valley. The troubled reality star has confirmed he won't be part of the third season of the Bravo show following an "incredibly challenging" year, which saw him split from wife Brittany Cartwright - the mother of his four-year-old son Cruz - and subsequently check into rehab for mental health and addiction treatment. He told Us Weekly magazine in a statement: 'After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I'll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley. "Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son, Cruz.' Season two of The Valley documented Jax and Brittany's breakout and the fallout. Executive producer Alex Baskin previously told Variety: 'Our job is to tell the full story. 'If we didn't tell the story in its completeness, then we would be covering up something that really happened and denying Brittany the chance to share what she had been through. I don't think that's really 'platforming an abuser' as much as that is platforming the story — which includes Brittany's experience as well as Jax's.' The season two reunion special was recorded in May and is due to air next week, while Alex previously admitted it was "very likely" the show would be different on its return for season three. The producer noted "no one is guaranteed a job" and said: 'We're figuring out all of it. It's very likely the show does look different next season, but I don't know what different means. 'Many times before, we've had to make a change based on someone's behaviour. … We don't want to be in a situation where we are forcing together people who wouldn't spend the time together in real life. That can become taxing and difficult to watch.' Jax previously admitted that he's been battling a cocaine addiction for more than 20 years. He said on the Hot Mic podcast: "I have substance issues - primarily with cocaine. It's hard to say out loud. I've been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I'm 45. "There was times where I would stop doing it but then there were times where I'd go heavy on it. "I just want to let people know this is a really, really tough disease and it's a really tough sickness." Brittany subsequently claimed that she spent years trying to help Jax to "get better". She said on the When Reality Hits podcast: "No one wants Jax to be better more than I do, let's be real. "I tried and tried and tried for years to help this man get better and for us to be a happy family, I was deeply and madly in love with him, there's no one that can ever deny that."
