Britney Spears blames vodka after lighting cigarette on flight

Britney Spears has apologized after reports that she lit a cigarette on a recent flight from from Cabo San Lucas to Los Angeles. Multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE and TMZ that authorities were called after the 43-year-old pop star started smoking mid-flight last week. According to TMZ, Spears complied when flight attendants ordered her to put out her smoke, but the outlet reported that she was 'difficult.' When the plane landed, sources told TMZ the mother-of-two was met by authorities and warned about her behaviour, which is a violation of federal aviation regulations. 'This is not her first warning,' a source told PEOPLE exclusively. 'She doesn't exactly follow the rules.' Spears has since addressed the incident in a recent Instagram post calling the ordeal 'incredibly funny.' The Toxic singer blamed her puffs on the fact that she was drinking vodka. 'Confession it was my first time drinking VODKA!!! I swear I felt so SMART,' she told her more than 41.8 million followers. 'I was like wow what the heck is in there !!! I felt so clear and smart !!!' 'My friend put (a cigarette) in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!' the Hold It Against Me hitmaker continued. Spears offered her apologies 'to anyone I offended,' but tried to downplay her actions by saying that 'the flight attendants always make sure I'm way at the back of the plane anyways.' She continued to write that when she met with authorities after the plane touched down, she thought they were there to greet her 'as support.' ' I was like WOW I feel special !!! I've never been to an international airport,' she wrote, adding a string of laugh-cry emojis. 'Am I famous or something???' Spears acknowledged that the flight attendant called officials because she smoked a cigarette, but said that the employee 'didn't like me the moment I got on the plane!!!' 'The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!! And embarrass me which jeez I thought was kinda much,' she wrote. 'Nobody was on the plane for first 20 minutes and she wouldn't let me get out of my seat I wanted to stand up !!! She acted so weird about making sure I sat down and it was weird !!! I didn't like the way she put the seatbelt on me and invaded my space!!!' Spears lived under a conservatorship overseen by her father for 13 years, which a judge ended in 2021. Since then, she has returned to the public eye, but her erratic behaviour has alarmed some of her closest friends. 'The judge went so Hollywood, ignoring all of the medical reports in front of her and just bent to the Free Britney people outside the courthouse,' one source told TMZ. After releasing her bestselling memoir The Woman in Me, Universal Pictures and producer Marc Platt announced they plan to turn Spears' life story into a musical biopic with Wicked director Jon M. Chu set to helm the project. Spears shared the news on X, where she tweeted that she was 'excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He's always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.' mdaniell@ Britney Spears shocks fans with revealing lingerie post on IG Britney Spears blasts trainer over 'younger body' jab Britney Spears tells fans to 'lighten up about the knives'

Britney Spears 'partied with Diddy' before infamous VMAs performance

Britney Spears was seen partying with Sean Combs just hours before her widely criticised performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, according to newly resurfaced photos and court testimony. The 43-year-old singer, best known for hits including Toxic and Gimme More, spent the night of September 7, 2007 at Jet nightclub in Las Vegas alongside Combs, 55, according to images recently shared online — with the pair later joined by Paris Hilton and 50 Cent at a second bash hosted at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The events of that night have resurfaced and were reported by Page Six after 38-year-old singer Cassie Ventura mentioned Britney during Combs' ongoing federal sex-trafficking trial, where he is accused of federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. Combs has denied all charges against him in his ongoing legal case. Ventura has testified her relationship with Combs 'sort of' began in Las Vegas during her 21st birthday celebrations in 2007. She told the court: 'Sean was there, and he brought Dallas Austin, Britney Spears. 'I think those were the two people that stand out to me.' Spears' appearance at the 2007 MTV VMAs on September 9, two days after the party, was intended to mark her professional comeback, but the performance became an infamous shambles and was met with huge criticism. She took the stage to perform Gimme More, but her lack of energy and poor lip-syncing drew widespread backlash from media and fans alike. In her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, Spears wrote about the pressures she faced before going on stage. 'There was a problem with my costume and with my hair extensions,' she said, adding: 'I hadn't slept the night before. I was dizzy.' Spears also recalled seeing her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, whom she dated between 1999 and 2002, backstage just before the performance. 'It had been a while since I'd seen him,' she wrote, adding: 'I couldn't believe I was going to have to go out onstage feeling the way I felt.' At the time, Spears was undergoing intense public scrutiny following her divorce from Kevin Federline and a string of highly publicised personal struggles, including an incident in which she shaved her head.

According to Page Six, the Criminal singer spent the night partying with Diddy just before her heavily criticised performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. Later that evening, Spears joined Diddy, Paris Hilton, and rapper-actor 50 Cent at another event at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The party, hosted by 50 Cent, reportedly continued into the early hours of September 8. However, it remains unclear when Spears left the gathering. Ventura testified in court on May 15, revealing that her relationship with Diddy 'sort of" began in September 2007, during her 21st birthday celebration in Las Vegas. 'Sean was there, and he brought Dallas Austin, Britney Spears. I think those were the two people that stand out to me," she said. Two days after the night out, on September 9, 2007, Spears performed 'Gimme More' at the MTV VMAs. Though intended as a comeback, the performance was widely criticised for lackluster choreography and poor lip-syncing. In her memoir, The Woman in Me, Spears recounted that things were falling apart before the show even began. 'There was a problem with my costume and with my hair extensions," she wrote, adding, 'I hadn't slept the night before. I was dizzy." She also revealed an unexpected backstage encounter with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, whom she had dated from 1999 to 2002. 'It had been a while since I'd seen him," Spears recalled, adding 'I couldn't believe I was going to have to go out onstage feeling the way I felt." At that time, Britney Spears was also under intense public scrutiny following her divorce from Kevin Federline and her widely publicised head-shaving incident earlier that year.
