Britney Spears' ex Kevin Federline to expose his side in raw new memoir ‘You Thought You Knew'

Kevin Federline is finally telling his side of the story. Nearly two decades after his whirlwind relationship with Britney Spears captured the world's attention, Federline is releasing his debut memoir, You Thought You Knew, set to launch on October 21, 2025. Described as 'extremely intimate and transparent,' the memoir will explore Federline's journey from backup dancer to full-blown tabloid obsession. He promises to share the emotional truths behind his meteoric rise, high-profile marriage, and ongoing challenges in the spotlight. 'If you've ever had questions, you'll find answers here,' he says. The book covers his early life in Fresno, California, his move to Nevada after his parents' divorce, and his start in the entertainment industry. He went from dancing behind artists like Michael Jackson and Destiny's Child to being thrust into the limelight after marrying Spears in 2004. Their tumultuous relationship, which included two children and a very public divorce, dominated headlines for years. Since then, Federline has largely stayed quiet, choosing to focus on raising his six children, two with Spears and four from other relationships. But the silence came at a cost. In this memoir, he reflects on the pain of having his story told for him, often inaccurately, and the strain of shielding his family from the chaos. The release comes nearly two years after Britney's own bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me, which painted a vivid picture of her life, including her time with Federline. Now, he's stepping forward with his perspective, aiming to offer clarity, closure, and perhaps a little redemption. Told through audio-first storytelling, the memoir promises a raw and personal account from a man long reduced to a headline.

Kevin Federline set to release memoir in October

Kevin Federline is set to release a memoir. The 47-year-old star - who was married to Britney Spears between 2004 and 2007 - is set to release You Thought You Knew, via the new audio imprint Listenin, on October 21. Kevin said: "This book is extremely intimate and transparent. "I achieved my biggest dreams, dealt with crushing heartbreak, and endured constant ridicule, all while becoming the father my children needed as they experienced nonstop emotional turbulence. If you've ever had questions, you'll find answers here." The memoir is being billed as "deeply personal and emotionally grounded" account of Kevin's life. The dancer - who has sons Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden James, 18, from his relationship with Britney - has promised to discuss the events and experiences that have shaped his character. Jaren Hayman, the founder of Barracuda Baby Productions, is thrilled to have worked with Kevin on the project. Jaren said: "We're proud to have Kevin as the first of our three books launching with Listenin. "He spent two years in every tabloid and two decades navigating a volatile, ever-changing reality — choosing silence to protect his kids. That silence left scars. "Listenin was built for real voices telling real stories, and sharing Kevin's after everything said about him means a lot to us. I am excited for the world to get to meet the real Kevin Federline." Britney released her own memoir, The Woman in Me, back in 2023. The book explored Britney's experience of fame and fortune, as well as her 14-year conservatorship. Britney, 43 - who is one of the best-selling pop stars of all time - described the project as a "labour of love". The chart-topping star told People at the time: "This book has been a labour of love and all the emotions that come with it. "Reliving everything has been exciting, heart-wrenching, and emotional, to say the least. For those reasons, I will only be reading a small part of my audiobook."

"This has been the most fun, emotional, gratifying, physically demanding, and, at times, grueling experience," the former NSYNC member said of his solo tour. "I could not have done it without my family, friends, The TN Kids, and all of YOUR support." He then went on to reveal that he's been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Read More about Justin "Among other things, I've been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme disease," he admitted in the statement. He then explained that "living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically". Throughout the tour, the singer has been accused of "hardly singing," with many branding his performances "lazy." And now fans are worried that Justin's diagnosis could mean he never goes on tour again. Most read in Celebrity 'I HAVE GIVEN ALL THAT I HAVE' In his statement, Justin gave several hints that he might be winding down and taking a break from touring. He reflected on how his tour had been a "grueling experience" and also got sentimental when he reflected on his career, saying, "I have been doing this for 30+ years (which feels crazy to say)." Justin Timberlake considers quitting touring after 'exhausting' concerts as fans slam star for 'barely singing' at shows Justin then cryptically added, "and have given all that I have to this." "At least it's not a forever disease and he can recover," said one person on X, reacting to the statement. "Yes and no," offered another, adding, "From what I've heard it will always be in your blood but you can go into remission for years and years with no symptoms." A third person then pleaded, "I feel so blessed I got to see you in Lexington, KY! Rest up & enjoy family time. "Whenever you're ready to come back to us, we'll be here! Don't be too long. You are loved until the end of time under all conditions." FEARS FOR JUSTIN'S FUTURE OF TOURING The U.S. Sun has spoken to two sources close to the singer who fear it could be the last time Justin travels the globe. Timberlake Troubles IN recent years, Justin Timberlake has endured several troublesome times. 2023 October 2023: Britney Spears' Memoir Release Britney Spears' highly anticipated memoir, "The Woman in Me," was released. In it, she made Spears revealed she became pregnant with Timberlake's child and had an abortion at his urging, stating he "wasn't happy about the pregnancy" and "said we weren't ready to have a baby." She also accused him of cheating on her during their relationship, while admitting to cheating once herself. Spears discussed how Timberlake's music video for "Cry Me a River" (2002), which featured a Spears lookalike, portrayed her as a "harlot who'd broken the heart of America's golden boy," severely impacting her public image at the time. The memoir reignited public scrutiny of Timberlake's past actions and how the media treated female celebrities in the early 2000s. 2024 June 18, 2024: DWI Arrest in the Hamptons Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York, for driving while intoxicated (DWI). Police reported that he ran a stop sign and veered out of his lane. Officers observed him with "bloodshot and glassy" eyes, detected a strong odor of alcohol, and noted his "slowed speech" and unsteadiness. He reportedly told the arresting officer he had "one martini" and refused a breathalyzer test multiple times. The arrest, particularly the officer reportedly not recognizing him and Timberlake's alleged comment, "This is going to ruin the tour," went viral and became a significant talking point and meme online. His driver's license was suspended for a year in New York State due to his refusal of the breathalyzer. September 13, 2024: Plea Deal in DWI Case Timberlake reached a plea deal in his DWI case, pleading guilty to a reduced charge of impaired driving. He expressed remorse for his actions in court, stating, "I did not live up to the standards that I try to hold for myself" and "I should have had better judgment." As part of the deal, he was reportedly obligated to make a public safety announcement. 2025 July 2025: "Lazy" Concert Performances & Fan Backlash During his "Forget Tomorrow World Tour," Timberlake began facing significant criticism for his live performances. Concertgoers widely complained about "lazy stage energy," minimal live singing, and relying heavily on backing vocals and pre-recorded tracks. Some fans reported booing at shows and demanding refunds, with many social media comments suggesting the tour was a "total flop." This criticism overlapped with the lingering discussions around his past controversies, leading some to call it "karma." The first insider understands why the backlash has become so fierce and claims the NSYNC legend is just exhausted, fed up, and frustrated. 'He's struggling with getting older and feeling like things aren't going his way,' he told The U.S. Sun. 'Since the tour started, he's been withdrawn, constantly in a bad mood. It's like he sees this as his 'last dance,' and he doesn't want to do it again. 'He feels stuck in the shadow of his old successes, and he hates that image.' The source also claims his marriage to actress Jessica Biel is suffering as a result of his personal struggles. SHOCK DIAGNOSIS Elsewhere in Justin's statement revealing his Lyme disease diagnosis, he went on, "When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure. "But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness. "I was faced with a personal decision. Stop touring? Or, keep going and figure it out. "I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going." 4 Justin got candid about his diagnosis in a recent Instagram post Credit: AP

Britney Spears has 2 kids, sons Sean and Jayden. Here's what to know.

Britney Spears shares two kids with her ex-husband Kevin Federline: Sean, 19, and Jayden, 18. In 2008, before Spears' conservatorship began, Federline was granted full custody of their sons. Spears dedicated her 2023 memoir to her two kids. In 2023, Britney Spears dedicated her memoir, " The Woman in Me," to the loves of her life — her kids. The pop icon, 43, shares two sons with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline: Sean Preston Federline, 19, and Jayden James Federline, 18. Although Federline was given full custody in 2008, Spears has recently gushed about her grown-up sons and shared updates about them on social media. Here's everything you need to know about Sean and Jayden. Spears gave birth to her eldest son, Sean Preston, four days before her and Kevin Federline's first wedding anniversary Three months after they met, Spears married rapper and dancer Kevin Federline on September 18, 2004, at a private home in Studio City, California. Spears told People shortly after the wedding that she was excited to be a mother. "I can see myself as a mom. Next year, at 23, I am so there," she said at the time. On September 14, 2005, four days before the couple's first wedding anniversary, Spears gave birth to a son, Sean Preston. At the time, Federline had two children with his ex-partner, Shar Jackson, whom he separated from in 2004. While Sean's birth marked the arrival of Spears' first child, it wasn't her first pregnancy. The " Crossroads" star revealed in her memoir that she had an abortion while dating Justin Timberlake between 1999 and 2002. Spears and Federline's second son, Jayden James, was born a year later Eight weeks after Spears gave birth to Jayden on September 12, 2006, she filed for divorce from Federline, citing irreconcilable differences. They reached an initial divorce settlement in March 2007, agreeing to share custody of their children. However, according to People, Federline resisted signing the papers over concerns about Spears' behavior. At the time, the "Toxic" singer was in rehab. They eventually finalized the divorce in July of that year. Federline was given full custody of the children after Spears' public breakdown in 2007 After making headlines for shaving her head and swinging an umbrella at paparazzi — both of which were caught on camera — Federline was given temporary custody of the couple's sons by an LA court in October 2007. In January 2008, People reported that Spears was put on lockdown for a mental evaluation after locking herself in a room with her youngest son, Jayden. The Los Angeles court awarded sole custody to Federline and suspended Spears' visitation rights. In February 2008, the "Circus" singer's father petitioned a court to place Spears under a temporary conservatorship. This became permanent in October of the same year. Spears made her first and only red carpet appearance with her sons in 2013 After the event, she posted on X, then known as Twitter: "Awww! #Smurfs2 was super cute. The boys loved it." —Britney Spears 🌹🚀 (@britneyspears) July 28, 2013 Sean and Jayden also accompanied their mom to the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, where they took photos backstage with Spears' style icon award. In 2016, Spears penned a tribute to her boys and called them her 'masterpieces' For a short essay published in Time, Spears wrote about her love for her sons. "You are my masterpieces. From the day I saw the most precious eyes, I believed in miracles to the core. Such a gift God has given me, exploring in your beautiful worlds every day," she wrote. "I pray as a mother I teach you strength and passion to carry through the struggles in the world," she continued. Spears has continued to gush about her sons in social media posts On her Instagram page, Spears has shared many photos and captions dedicated to her boys. In August 2019, she commemorated their trip to Disneyland with a photograph of the three of them smiling in the amusement park. "Great time at Disneyland today," she wrote. "My boys are older now, so they don't like their picture taken ever ... so I was thrilled today when they said SURE !!!!! Such a great place !!!!!" View this post on Instagram A post shared by Maria River Red (@britneyspears) In March 2021, she shared another photo of the three of them standing in a field at sunset. In the caption, she marveled at how tall they both were getting. "It's so crazy how time flies .... My boys are so big now," she wrote in part. "I'm extremely lucky because my two babies are such gentleman and so kind that I must have done something right 🙊 !!!! I haven't posted pictures of them for some time cause they're at the age where they want to express their own identities and I totally get it." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Maria River Red (@britneyspears) Sean and Jayden skipped Spears' wedding to Sam Asghari in June 2022 At the time, an attorney for their father told People the boys didn't want to take the spotlight from their mother by attending, but were "happy" for the married couple. However, three months later, Jayden said during an interview with " 60 Minutes Australia" that he felt uncomfortable accepting his mom's invitation because she hadn't invited other members of the family. "I'm really happy for them, but she didn't invite the whole family," the teenager said. "And then if it was just gonna be me and Preston, I just don't see how that situation would have ended on good terms." (Spears and Asghari divorced in 2023.) In September 2022, Jayden said that his relationship with his mom could be 'fixed' if she gets 'better mentally' Speaking to ITV News, Spears' youngest son explained why he and his brother didn't go to their mom's wedding. "At the time, it just wasn't a good time to go. I'm not saying that I'm not happy for her," Jayden said. The teenager said in the interview that his relationship with his mom "100%" could be "fixed." "It's just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally," he continued. "When she gets better I really want to see her again." Later that month, Spears said 'a huge part' of her died when she lost custody of her sons Less than two weeks after Jayden's comments, Spears shared a series of audio clips on Instagram, including one in which she spoke about her sense of loss after losing custody of her children. "From when they were 6 to 9 years old, I had them 70% of the time, and of course, since they've been gone, I've honestly felt like a huge part of me has died," she said in one of the clips. "Like, literally, have no purpose anymore. They were my joy. They were my everything. I looked forward to seeing them. That was what I lived for and then all of sudden they were gone and I was like, 'Did my heart just stop beating?'" In the summer of 2023, Sean and Jayden moved from Los Angeles to Hawaii with their father In May, Federline's lawyer, Vincent Kaplan, told People that Spears had "consented" to Sean and Jayden moving to Hawaii with their father and his wife, Victoria Prince. Kaplan said the boys were "ready to get away from the LA microscope," and that the move to Hawaii was a great opportunity for them to do so. In her memoir, Spears writes that she stopped challenging her conservatorship so that she could spend time with her children In "The Woman in Me," Spears recalls her experience under her court-ordered 13-year conservatorship and why she decided to go along with it following her hospitalizations. "After being held down on a gurney, I knew they could restrain my body any time they wanted to. And so I went along with it," she writes. Spears writes that she complied so as not to ruin her chances of seeing her sons. "My freedom in exchange for naps with my children — it was a trade I was willing to make," Spears writes. In 2024, Sean and Jayden spent Christmas with their mom View this post on Instagram A post shared by XILA MARIA RIVER RED (@britneyspears) The year after her memoir was published, Spears shared that she had the "best Christmas of my life" alongside a video with her sons. Britney Spears blames vodka after lighting cigarette on flight

Britney Spears has apologized after reports that she lit a cigarette on a recent flight from from Cabo San Lucas to Los Angeles. Multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE and TMZ that authorities were called after the 43-year-old pop star started smoking mid-flight last week. According to TMZ, Spears complied when flight attendants ordered her to put out her smoke, but the outlet reported that she was 'difficult.' When the plane landed, sources told TMZ the mother-of-two was met by authorities and warned about her behaviour, which is a violation of federal aviation regulations. 'This is not her first warning,' a source told PEOPLE exclusively. 'She doesn't exactly follow the rules.' Spears has since addressed the incident in a recent Instagram post calling the ordeal 'incredibly funny.' The Toxic singer blamed her puffs on the fact that she was drinking vodka. 'Confession it was my first time drinking VODKA!!! I swear I felt so SMART,' she told her more than 41.8 million followers. 'I was like wow what the heck is in there !!! I felt so clear and smart !!!' 'My friend put (a cigarette) in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!' the Hold It Against Me hitmaker continued. Spears offered her apologies 'to anyone I offended,' but tried to downplay her actions by saying that 'the flight attendants always make sure I'm way at the back of the plane anyways.' She continued to write that when she met with authorities after the plane touched down, she thought they were there to greet her 'as support.' ' I was like WOW I feel special !!! I've never been to an international airport,' she wrote, adding a string of laugh-cry emojis. 'Am I famous or something???' Spears acknowledged that the flight attendant called officials because she smoked a cigarette, but said that the employee 'didn't like me the moment I got on the plane!!!' 'The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!! And embarrass me which jeez I thought was kinda much,' she wrote. 'Nobody was on the plane for first 20 minutes and she wouldn't let me get out of my seat I wanted to stand up !!! She acted so weird about making sure I sat down and it was weird !!! I didn't like the way she put the seatbelt on me and invaded my space!!!' Spears lived under a conservatorship overseen by her father for 13 years, which a judge ended in 2021. Since then, she has returned to the public eye, but her erratic behaviour has alarmed some of her closest friends. 'The judge went so Hollywood, ignoring all of the medical reports in front of her and just bent to the Free Britney people outside the courthouse,' one source told TMZ. After releasing her bestselling memoir The Woman in Me, Universal Pictures and producer Marc Platt announced they plan to turn Spears' life story into a musical biopic with Wicked director Jon M. Chu set to helm the project. Spears shared the news on X, where she tweeted that she was 'excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He's always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.' mdaniell@ Britney Spears shocks fans with revealing lingerie post on IG Britney Spears blasts trainer over 'younger body' jab Britney Spears tells fans to 'lighten up about the knives'
