Nets' Cam Johnson reacts to Knicks firing HC Tom Thibodeau
Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been on vacation for awhile with the Nets not making the postseason in any capacity following a 26-56 record in the 2024-25 regular-season. While Johnson is no doubt working on his game to be a better player for Brooklyn next season, he is also lending his voice on important NBA topics, including the New York Knicks firing head coach Tom Thibodeau. "It's kind of crazy to say this, but the initial thought now is not really shock," Johnson said during his recent appearance on "The Young Man and The Three" when asked by host Tommy Alter about the Knicks firing Thibodeau. ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that the Knicks fired Thibodeau despite leading the team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. Advertisement "I guess he kind of adds to complete that every coach of the year, from '18 to '23 has kind of found degrees of success," Johnson continued. "Kind of in the midst of it, being let go, but you kind of got to look at it from a team-building perspective. That team is a really good roster, and they're really close. So, I guess maybe ownership, front-office is just looking at it like, What can get us over the hump? I guess that's the best solution they had." As Johnson alluded to in his reaction, Thibodeau continues a line of coaches that have been fired recently despite either having good track records in their career or with their team having a good record. Since the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign, Thibodeau joins Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins, Mike Malone, and Mike Budenholzer as the coaches that were shown the door. While Thibodeau had his flaws when it came to distributing minutes amongst his rotation and adapting to adjustments made by opposing teams in real-time, he still took the Knicks farther than they had been in a quarter-century. Johnson, who is paying attention to the NBA outside of his involvement with the Nets, understands that Thibodeau may have needed to go, but also sees that the Knicks may be close enough that a coaching change could be all that is needed for New York to get to the Finals eventually. Nets' Cam Johnson analyzes Knicks' Game 2 comeback win at Celtics
Nets' Cam Johnson analyzes Knicks' Game 2 comeback win at Celtics Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been on vacation this summer as he and the rest of the Nets are doing other things to get ready for the 2025-26 NBA season. Johnson, who has lended his voice to the NBA discourse, took time out of his schedule to give his take on the New York Knicks beating the Boston Celtics on Wednesday in Game 2 of their 2025 NBA playoff series. "Going up 2-0 on the road is impressive. I think the question goes to Boston and what adjustments they can make and what is happening," Johnson said during his analysis of the Knicks' 91-90 win over the Celtics. Johnson made his comments during an episode of "The Young Man and The Three" podcast with host Tommy Alter, something that Johnson has been routinely doing since this season began. "I think the natural question to ask is: their shooting has been down," Johnson continued. "They are a historically high-volume, high-percentage (three-point shooting) team this season, last season, it's what they they've been able to do, and they're just not hitting these first two games. One question is, do you just stick with the script and play the way you've been playing all season and it'll turn back around? Or, do you make adjustments?" To Johnson's point, at the conclusion of the 2024-25 regular season, the Celtics ranked first in the league in three-point attempts per game (48.2) while ranking 10th in three-point shooting percentage (36.8%). Boston has been regarded as the team that has embraced shot analytics the most given how often they shoot three-pointers and layups while abandoning the mid-range game, even when their three-point shooting is off. With that being said, Johnson also gave his reaction to what the Knicks did to come back from 20-point deficits in two consecutive games. "New York's ability to battle back from 20 is encouraging, but they cannot continue to find themselves down 20," Johnson explained. "It's not gonna happen every time. Two times in a row, you pretty much used up a lot of that good Juju that you can find in a series. You're gonna have to play really good ball to beat Boston two more times." It will be interesting to see how the Celtics respond in Game 3 when they take on the Knicks on the road at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

Former 76ers Guard Has a Message to the Fanbase
The Philadelphia 76ers gave T.J. McConnell a chance to live his dream of playing in the NBA after he went undrafted. He played for the Sixers during the first four years of his career and earned the love and respect of the fans. McConnell hasn't played for Philly since the first four years of his career ended. However, he still has a lot of love for the fanbase even though he's playing for the Indiana Pacers. The 6-foot-1 point guard said Sixer fans approach him from time to time to show their respect. Advertisement The veteran guard revealed his real feelings about the Sixers in the latest episode of The Young Man and The Three podcast. Indiana Pacers guard T.J. McConnell passes the ball around Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey during the second half at Gainbridge Lebryk-Imagn Images "That crowd. Playing in front of them, it was pretty incredible," McConnell said. "People to this day just walking anywhere, 'We miss you in Philly.' They show a lot of love so I got a lot of love for the fans of Philadelphia for sure." During McConnell's time with the team, he averaged 6.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists. The veteran guard was mostly a reserve player for the first four years of his career. The undrafted player's time with the Sixers helped him become a solid backup point guard. Advertisement At that time, the Sixers were forming the team around All-Star big man Joel Embiid. McConnell was part of "The Process," with players like Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler and more. Unfortunately for Philly, they didn't have a notable achievement during their time together. Now, McConnell is the consistent backup point guard to Tyrese Haliburton with the Pacers. The 33-year-old guard has been with the franchise for six seasons, averaging 8.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists. Related: T.J. McConnell Part of Troll Job?

Nets' Cam Johnson gives take on LeBron James, Stephen A. Smith beef
Mar 16, 2025; Brooklyn, New York, USA; Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson (2) runs up court after making basket against the Atlanta Hawks during the first half at Barclays Center. Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been having the best season of his career as he is trying to help the Nets win as many games as possible. While Johnson has been focused on helping Brooklyn as much as he can, he has also made the rounds on various podcasts to lend his voice on certain matters, including his opinion on the beef happening between Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith. "On one hand, our league is entertainment. We know that. It is reality TV to some extent, in real time, with real things at stake. Side stories, it takes away from the actual headlines," Johnson said on an episode of "The Young Man and The Three" podcast. Johnson has made various appearances on the podcast that is ran by Tommy Alter and this is not his first time on the podcast to discuss something that has gone viral in NBA circles. Advertisement What Johnson was addressing was the back-and-forth between James and Smith that has been going on for the past few weeks after James addressed Smith at a Lakers game that Smith attended. According to Smith, James confronted him about his criticism regarding his son, Lakers guard Bronny James, in a way that made James believe that what Smith had to say about his son was personal. James recently made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show where he appeared to make fun of Smith by saying that he was going on a "Taylor Swift tour run" following their initial encounter with how often Smith has talked about it while giving his thoughts. Smith gave his most recent response on his podcast "The Stephen A. Smith Show" where he implied that James continued to lie about the situation. Either way, most of the people around the NBA feel the way that Johnson does, implying that most would rather for ESPN and other major media outlets to focus on the stories directly related to the NBA. Johnson seems like one of the players in the NBA that is able to give his takes on NBA topics while remaining nuanced in his opinions, something that is refreshing to see.
