Thirumavalavan alleges attempts to create confusion in DMK alliance

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and Chidambaram MP Thol. Thirumavalavan on Thursday alleged that attempts were being made to create confusion in the DMK alliance. He was responding to AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami's statement that the VCK and the CPI(M) were continuing in the DMK-led alliance despite being insulted by the ruling party, and that the AIADMK was rolling out the red carpet for any party willing to join its alliance. 'The remarks were made in order to create confusion in the DMK-led secular alliance,' Mr. Thirumavalavan said. 'The DMK-led alliance is strong, and the Opposition alliance has not even taken shape. The AIADMK and the BJP are making contradictory statements. Those opposing the DMK are scattered – that is the truth,' he said. Mr. Thirumavalavan ruled out the possibility of a three-cornered fight in the upcoming election. He also met actor-politician Kamal Haasan, who is set to take oath as a Rajya Sabha MP, and greeted him.

CM Stalin, VCK leader Thirumavalavan reaffirm unity at event in TN's Chidambaram

CHIDAMBARAM: Amid persistent speculations around VCK's continuance in the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M K Stalin and VCK president and Chidambaram MP Thol Thirumavalavan reaffirmed their unity at the inauguration of the centenary hall of late Congress leader L Elayaperumal in Lalpuram here by the CM on Tuesday. The DMK president, who addressed the gathering after Thirumavalavan, referred the VCK leader as his dearest brother and a reformist. He also recalled Thirumavalavan's remark that 'the leaders of Dravidian movement, who follow in the footsteps of 'Periyar' EV Ramasamy, Ambedkarites, Marxists, and the Congress functionaries who follow Gandhian principles, are all gathered on the stage.' Thirumavalavan was referring to leaders of various parties in the DMK-led alliance. 'I second the remarks he made with pride. When Tamil Nadu is in one formation, the 'saffron' schemes from Delhi will work here,' Stalin said, in a reference to the BJP and its ally, the AIADMK. Thirumavalavan, during his speech, called on all Tamils to unite to bring back the DMK-led 'Dravidian Model' government back to power in 2026. He said his party supportes Stalin because the latter is leading a people-centric government that is introducing new schemes for upliftment of marginalised people as the political heir of late CM M Karunanidhi. 'Our ideological opponents have said that Stalin is stronger than Kalaignar. This shows the strength of his leadership,' he said. Giving credit to Stalin for uniting like-minded parties effectively, he said VCK will fully support the alliance across the state with effective transfer of its votes to all its allies. Stalin said that the recommendations of the Committee on Untouchability, Economic and Educational Development of the Scheduled Castes headed by Elayaperumal had played a crucial role in safeguarding the legislation enacted by the state in 1971 to enable persons of all castes to become priests in temples.

EPS alleges unusual debt accrual by DMK government, vows inquiry commission

On VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan's statement that the AIADMK and BJP alliance is not supportive, Palaniswami asked whether it's his finding. 'We will confer a doctorate or Nobel Prize on Thirumavalavan if he proves it. Who are you to say our alliance is not supportive?' he said, adding, 'Unlike the DMK, we — AIADMK, BJP, IJK and Forward Bloc — are united,' he said. 'Thirumavalavan is taking dual stand. In his heart, he longs for a coalition government in the state, but he is forced to say that there is no chance for such a government,' he said. Palaniswami said the DMK men are speaking against the AIADMK-BJP alliance as they are afraid of defeat in the 2016 Assembly election. 'Home Minister Amit Shah, who was in Chennai, himself had said the AIADMK-BJP alliance was forged after discussion, and that AIADMK will lead the alliance and form the government in the state,' he said. Palaniswami also said CPM state secretary P Shanmugam himself had expressed apprehension that the party would be defeated in the election 'if the situation continues', saying the DMK-led alliance was unable to redress the grievances of the people. 'After four years, it was the newly elected Shanmugam, concerned about the welfare of the people, who spoke against the DMK government. The former leaders were not able to speak against the DMK, as they had signed an agreement of slavery,' Palaniswami said, adding his aim is to retrieve Tamil Nadu from 'family rule'. While speaking at Puliyakulam, Palaniswami said a minister was paying kickback to DMK leadership every month and was appointed as Coimbatore district coordinator after he stepped down following a Supreme Court direction over his involvement in cash-for-job scam. 'You are all aware of him, and he is fondly called 'Pathu Rubai' (ten rupees). How can he do good to people? He will only try to earn what he has invested,' he asked.

Pass resolution against new labour codes: VCK chief to CM

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi founder Thol. Thirumavalavan, on Tuesday urged the State government to ensure implementation of Old Pension Scheme as promised by the DMK before the elections and said that Centre's decision to change 44 workers' welfare laws into four new Labour codes has snatched away workers' rights. Speaking to the reporters at Anna Arivalayam, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that the new codes has made sure that unorganised workers welfare unions will not be able to function as before. 'I have urged the Chief Minister to push back against the four new Labour codes and pass a resolution in the State Assembly,' he said. He added that several castes are being referred to in official documents with suffixes widely construed as disrespectful and urged the State Government to refer to castes with respect and dignity.

No consensus between AIADMK and BJP on alliance, says VCK chief Thirumavalavan

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Sunday (July 6, 2025) said there was no consensus between the AIADMK and BJP leaders regarding their alliance. The VCK leader was speaking to reporters after participating in party events held in Veeraganur, Thedavur, Sentharapatti, and Gangavalli. 'The BJP cannot gain foothold in Tamil Nadu. The recent statement by AIADMK leader A. Anwar Raajhaa clearly shows there is no consensus between the two parties. Their alliance is incompatible, and working together is not an easy task,' Mr. Thirumavalavan said. He also extended his wishes to AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami for his State-wide pre-poll tour. 'It is common for political parties to start the groundwork ahead of elections. The DMK, for instance, begins its campaign preparations at least six months in advance,' he added. Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent remark about a coalition government in Tamil Nadu in 2026, Mr. Thirumavalavan said Mr. Palaniswami has not offered a clear response. 'While Amit Shah talks about a coalition, Mr. Palaniswami is claiming the AIADMK will form the government on its own. This contradiction raises questions. The people of Tamil Nadu are keen to know whether it is a BJP-led alliance or an AIADMK-led one,' he said. When asked whether actor Vijay's political entry would affect the DMK alliance, Mr. Thirumavalavan replied, 'Success in cinema does not guarantee success in politics. We cannot assume everyone who wins in cinema will win in electoral politics.'
