The Cleaning Lady Ends Season 4 on an Unresolved Note — Do You Want to See a Fifth Season?
The Cleaning Lady is still awaiting word on whether it will return to Fox for a fifth season — but in the meantime, Tuesday's Season 4 conclusion sure didn't feel like a series finale. On the contrary, Thony's got more unresolved mess to clean up than ever before. The season ender was a two-hour roller coaster for Thony, who began the episode in prison for Rex Blackley's murder, but ended it as a free woman with all charges against her dropped. In the middle, she a) survived multiple beatings from Ramona Sanchez and her cronies while incarcerated, b) snuck out of prison during a riot in which Ramona and several other inmates escaped, c) avoided getting buried alive by Ramona, thanks to a last-minute assist from Fiona, and d) was reunited with sweet Luca, despite Ramona's attempt to abduct both him and Violeta and raise them as her own children. And that's to say nothing of Thony's eventful few days in jail, which included everything from healing her cellmate's arthritis to giving an entire cell block food poisoning. Our girl's been busy. Plus: Grade the Episode Anyway, here's how it shook out in the end: * Just when Ramona planned to bury Thony alive and head off with Luca and Violeta in tow, Fiona arrived and thwacked Ramona in the head with a shovel, knocking her unconscious. Thony initially planned to finish the job by killing Ramona, calling it 'an act of compassion for the world,' but ultimately couldn't bring herself to do it. Instead, she tossed Ramona into the grave intended for herself, closed the lid, and covered the box with dirt. Thony later told Jorge that Ramona wouldn't be a problem 'ever again'… but in the closing moments, we saw Ramona regain consciousness underground, screaming as she realized she'd been buried. * Jorge lost control of the Sin Cara cartel, and he was replaced by the power-hungry Feng. Jorge and Violeta then boarded a private plane that would take them somewhere safe — a place where Jorge could also get 'what I need to crush Feng; I refuse to let him take Sin Cara away from me.' Jorge invited Thony and Luca to join him, but she insisted that she chose the cartel life, and she'll find a way to deal with Feng while Jorge's gone. * Before jetting off, Jorge gave Thony a small book of crucial information, which she was told to use as a bargaining chip with Joel Herman, now the new district attorney. ('It's what Joel needs to take down Sam Heller,' Jorge explained.) Thony did meet with Joel later on, but she gave the book of secrets to Feng instead — a record of 'dirty players and deals' kept by the former D.A., which Feng can now use to bribe and manipulate the appropriate people. In exchange for the book, Thony told Feng she wants to be made a full cartel associate. Meanwhile, in her meeting with Joel, Thony offered to make herself an informant for the D.A.'s office; she'll go back to the cartel, do her job, and report everything to Joel in order to help him prosecute a major corruption case against Sin Cara funder Sam Heller. In exchange, Joel would drop all charges against Thony and let her walk free. Both men appeared to agree to Thony's terms, but at the end of the finale, we found out what she really wants from these new arrangements. 'They all want to control me. But this puts me back in control,' she told Fiona. 'I'll let those men think that they own me, but I don't want to be a cartel associate. I don't want to be an informer. The Cleaning Lady Sets Season 4 in Motion With a Major Death — Who Was the Premiere's Victim?
Fans of Fox's The Cleaning Lady waited 10 months for the show to return for its fourth season — and just 10 minutes into Tuesday's premiere, they were suddenly saying goodbye to a major character. Agent Katherine Russo, who has been played by How to Get Away With Murder's Liza Weil since The Cleaning Lady's first season, perished early in the Season 4 opener, burned alive in her car — yeesh — by members of the Sin Cara cartel for her role in getting queenpin Ramona Sanchez imprisoned. When Fox provided an official Season 4 synopsis in February, the character was notably not mentioned in descriptions of upcoming episodes. Then, at the start of Tuesday's hour, Russo revealed that she would help Thony and her entire family secure U.S. citizenship by way of S visas, since Thony was instrumental in taking down Ramona last season. Thony, Fiona, Chris and Luca (now played by newcomer Khalen Roman Sanchez) were elated and hopeful as they were interviewed at the local immigration office — and it all just seemed too sunny for a show like this, no? Sure enough, as Russo pulled up outside the immigration building to sign the family's applications, she was barricaded in her vehicle by Ramona's henchmen, who burned Russo with a Molotov cocktail before her car fully exploded. Thony watched all of this happen, of course, because her trauma supply was apparently running low. But Russo's demise, unfortunate and untimely as it was, ultimately set Thony's Season 4 arc in motion. After initially planning to escape to Cambodia with Luca, Thony decided to stay put in Las Vegas and stand her ground against Ramona. By the end of the episode, Thony had reignited her maybe-more-than-platonic rapport with Jorge Sanchez — the new leader of Sin Cara, though some members are still more loyal to Ramona — and talked her way into a new job as the cartel's on-call doctor, which will a) ensure her family's safety from here on out (at least, we hope so), and b) allow her to work at a real hospital while she cares for cartel members on the side. As evidenced by a tense phone call with Ramona at the end of the episode, Thony no longer seems scared of anything or anyone… though we'll admit, we're now a little scared of her. ‘The Cleaning Lady' & ‘Alert: Missing Persons Unit' Get Return Dates On Fox
The Cleaning Lady and Alert: Missing Persons Unit will be back for their fourth and third seasons, respectively, on March 25, with uninterrupted season-long runs, Fox announced Tuesday. The Cleaning Lady will debut at 8 pm March 25, followed by Alert: Missing Persons Unit at 9 pm. Doc, which currently sits in the 9 pm timeslot, will have wrapped its 10-episode first season by March 11. Thony's return to the medical career she sacrificed for her son, Luca (Khalen Roman Sanchez), opens a new path to citizenship for them both. But in order to make this happen, she must continue her service to the Sin Cara cartel — not as a cleaning lady, but as the new mob doctor — bringing her ever closer to Jorge (Santiago Cabrera), the cartel's brooding new leader.
