Charlotte 49ers sell out of football season tickets for the first time

Charlotte 49ers football season tickets have sold out, the program recently announced. Why it matters: Selling out season tickets is a first for the program and an important milestone for a team that's slated to soon break ground on a $70 million stadium expansion. By the numbers: The 49ers have surpassed 6,000 season tickets, according to a program spokesperson. Zoom in: They're scheduled to play six home games this season, starting with the North Carolina Tar Heels on Sept. 6 at 7pm. This will be Bill Belichick's first away game as the Tar Heels' head coach. Roughly 2,400 additional seats will be placed in the east concourse above the 49ers' student section to meet the ticket demand that game, bringing Jerry Richardson Stadium's seated capacity to around 17,700. There will also be space for standing room only tickets, per the program. Flashback: The 49ers' record for a home game is 19,151 vs. Appalachian State in 2019. They sold out four of their six home games last season. What we're watching: This will be the 49ers' first season under head coach Tim Albin, and the 49ers are looking to return to a bowl game for the first time since 2019. They'll play at Bank of America Stadium for the first time on Aug. 29 when they take on Appalachian State in the Duke's Mayo Classic. What's next: Single-game tickets go on sale to the general public on July 8. Tickets for a three-game flex plan are on sale and include the North Carolina game. Subject to availability, single-game tickets for the North Carolina game will become available closer to the game.
