Married At First Sight's Katie Johnston reveals more heartbreak after her shocking match on Channel Nine show: 'My window for having a family is closing'

Married At First Sight bride Katie Johnston has shared heartbreaking news following her split with her TV husband Tim Gromie. Katie, 37, was brutally rejected by the serial dating app user, who continuously said on the show he wanted a 'petite blonde.' The Queensland-based singleton has been open about overhauling her lifestyle and approach to health and wellness after her brief and 'triggering' MAFS marriage. Now she has revealed she thinks she is going through perimenopause. 'I'm pretty well convinced now that I'm on a perimenopausal journey which means I'm biologically drying up,' Katie told her 106,000 Instagram followers on Thursday. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'That means that my window for having a family is closing.' In a tearful and reflective video, Katie said that she doesn't want to 'rush' her fertility options 'with the wrong person'. 'But it's a very confronting time,' she admitted in the emotive post. Perimenopause is the transitional period a woman experiences before menopause, marking the end of her reproductive years. It is characterised by fluctuating hormone levels, primarily estrogen, which can cause a variety of physical and emotional symptoms. 'If I had already had that journey and had kids then it wouldn't hurt so much,' Katie continued. 'But whatever my path is, I'll make the most of it. 'Whatever comes my way, whatever knocks me down, I get back up. I'm just realising I spent a lot of time sabotaging myself.' Katie immediately won the affections of 2025 MAFS viewers as a romantically challenged woman who had been routinely rejected in the past, but hoped to end her decade-long single status. She married PE teacher Tim in one of the first episodes of the season. In a shocking behind-the-scenes moment, Tim pulled a producer aside during their wedding reception to vent his frustrations. 'Totally not what I wanted. Not good,' he said. 'I normally go for short, petite, blonde or brunette. Katie's nothing like what I usually go for. There's just no attraction. I can tell straight away.' Twelve months on from filming her edit for MAFS, Katie looks markedly different to the beleaguered bride fans saw over the first week of the long-running Nine series. She spent several months 'healing' in Canguu, Bali after the series aired. 'I just want you to know that if life hasn't panned out the way that you dreamed of, in the time that you're in, it's okay,' she continued on Thursday. 'You can just reframe it. You can make the most out of what you've got and the opportunities that come up in different ways.' Katie's fans flooded her comments section with well wishes and advice, as they urged her to go and see a fertility specialist. 'Katie please go and speak to a fertility specialist on what your options are. Having a family looks different for everyone. Peri doesn't close the door at this point. As confronting as this is, please know you can still have children, it just may be a different process. Take care,' one follower wrote. 'Sweetheart, please look into having your eggs frozen. Then you can increase your window and wait for the right man or choose to do it alone. You are amazing beautiful lady,' added another.
