Winning Wednesday: Healthy Savannah Spirit Award
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — For this week's Winning Wednesday, WSAV's Tina Tyus-Shaw was joined by a recent recipient of the Healthy Savannah Spirit Award. Anthony Lonon and the Holly Heights Community were awarded the Denniss Hutton 2025 Spirit Award. The award was named in honor and memory of Dennis Hutton due to his passion for community gardening. Tina Tyus-Shaw speaks at Jenkins High's Decision Day
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — 'You have the power in you to do anything and go anywhere' was WSAV's Tina Tyus-Shaw's message to graduating seniors at Jenkins High School on Thursday. Shaw served as the keynote speaker at their Decision Day event. Positive vibes were everywhere as folks celebrated the seniors who are moving forward to college and the workforce after graduation. 'My seniors in particular. Can I hear this from you? We are always becoming,' Tyus-Shaw said. 'We are always becoming. Yes you are always becoming. So don't forget that. Take the path that will give you an opportunity to turn that new chapter and turn a page every day because you are always becoming.' Several seniors spoke about their futures. 'I'll be attending Georgia Military College where I'll be enlisted asa second lieutenant in the United States Army as an infantry officer, and I'll be getting my criminal justice degree,' said Connor Wilson Bote. 'I'm very proud of myself. You know I've come a long way, and I've changed. I grown quite a bit in my academics and socially as well,' said Derek Wengai, who is headed to Louisiana State University. 2025 Go Red Luncheon: Courageous women
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The American Heart Association is celebrating 100 years of bold hearts and had a grand time as the association celebrated courageous women on the beautiful country club on Wilmington Island. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States, and often times the disease goes undiagnosed or simply misdiagnosed as well. WSAV wants to make sure that we continue to raise awareness and educate you about heart disease. The 2025 Southern Coast Go Red Luncheon was a huge success. These women have fought the fight, and they are living their best lives right now.
