Man City eye transfer for Newcastle star with Pep Guardiola keen on deal
Pep Guardiola is looking to reshape his Manchester City squad this summer after ending season without silverware for first time in eight years and Newcastle star Tino Livramento is admired Manchester City are eyeing a surprise move for Newcastle defender Tino Livramento, according to reports. Pep Guardiola is looking to revamp his squad ahead of a renewed assault on all fronts next season after the club went without silverware for the first time in eight years. And Livramento, 22, is being looked at despite Newcastle having no appetite to sell a player who has three years left on his contract, as per the Daily Mail. The ex-Chelsea academy player arrived from Southampton in 2023 for £40m and was handed a senior England call-up earlier this year. City are also pushing ahead with a move to bring in Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves, with an expectation that he could sign in time for the Club World Cup later this month. City are also in talks with Lyon over a move for Rayan Cherki and they have already submitted a £55m bid for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak last week said City would come back stronger next season having finished 13 points behind champions Liverpool. It was the first campaign in eight that City did not win a single piece of silverware, while the club's legal battle with the Premier League rumbles on in the background. And Al Mubarak said: "We will be back. This season is a season that's now behind us. Today is a new day. We start working and preparing for next season. And by the way, we've been doing that since January. "And we will take all the good things and the not so good things from this season, and learn from it, improve from it and get better. "I can assure you, this club will do everything possible to come back to the standards that we know we all can achieve - and that we know we will achieve. "Because really, if there's one thing I'd like right now, it's to turn that page from last season and just immediately start focusing on next season. All the players, they're excited about coming back. Nobody feels good about how we finished the season. "They want to come back, and they want to come back hungry. And I can see the hunger. Normally these players are off and they're starting to think about vacation time etc. Honestly, every player I spoke to was telling me, 'we're coming back'. "That's the attitude you want - and that's exactly why you see me so positive. We're going to come back strong, with a lot of positivity."

Man City boss Pep Guardiola keen on Newcastle star who featured in all but one Premier League game last season
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is keen on Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento. The 22-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Southampton in 2023 in a deal worth up to £40million, made 37 appearances in the Premier League last season. He still has three years left on his current contract and Newcastle want to keep him. City therefore know that bringing the former Chelsea youth to the Etihad could prove expensive. Guardiola has other names on his wish-list and City have accelerated talks with Wolves regarding left back Rayan Ait-Nouri. The plan is to get the Algeria international signed before the Club World Cup begins later this month. Ait-Nouri has told City that he wants to join. Meanwhile, City last week opened talks with Lyon over a deal for midfielder Rayan Cherki. Guardiola, who is bringing in former Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders as his new assistant, gave the green light for City to bid for Cherki after holding talks with the 21-year-old. Cherki is valued around £35million after scoring 12 goals in 44 games this season, including two against Manchester United in the Europa League. He was also part of the France U23 team that won a silver medal at last summer's Olympic Games. Cherki has not yet been capped by France at senior international level, but he was recently handed his first call-up and could make his debut in Thursday's UEFA Nations League semi-final clash with Spain.

Man City shortlist two options for fullback positions
Manchester City have identified two new players that they will target in the current summer transfer window. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on June 2, 2025, 18:49 IST Manchester City have identified two new players that they will target in the current summer transfer window. As they are in search for new fullbacks, so they have shortlisted Tino Livramento of Newcastle and Ait-Nouri of Wolves. Both these fullbacks were amazing last season, and thus, the club thinks they are the best options for the positions. Manchester City have set their sights on bolstering their defensive options this summer, with a particular focus on strengthening the fullback positions. According to reports, the reigning Premier League champions have shortlisted Tino Livramento of Newcastle United and Rayan Aït-Nouri of Wolverhampton Wanderers as key targets. Both fullbacks impressed with their performances in the 2023/24 season. Livramento, despite limited starts at Newcastle, showcased his pace, composure, and attacking flair whenever given the opportunity. Aït-Nouri, on the other hand, was one of Wolves' standout players, contributing both defensively and in the final third with consistent displays. City's interest in the duo reflects Pep Guardiola's desire to refresh his squad with young, dynamic options capable of playing in an intense, possession-based system. With Joao Cancelo expected to leave permanently and doubts over other defensive options, the club sees Livramento and Aït-Nouri as ideal fits. Man City want Newcastle and Wolves stars in overhaul at full-back
Manchester City are plotting big changes to their back line this summer, with interest in Newcastle United's Tino Livramento and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Rayan Ait-Nouri. It was an extremely disappointing season for City last time round as they finished third in the Premier League table and without any silverware. After four league titles on the spin it was always going to be tough to keep that run of success going, but the drop off was remarkable and defeat in the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace a negative end to a forgettable season. Investment in the squad is planned over the summer, with full-back identified as a position in need of strengthening. Despite the vast riches spent on Pep Guardiola's squad, Manchester City have been left incredibly short at full-back in recent times. Against the Eagles at Wembley Manuel Akanji and Nico O'Reilly started on the right and left of defence respectively. On the final day of the Premier League season Matheus Nunes was at right-back and Josko Gvardiol at left-back. City want another option on both flanks, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that Ait-Nouri and Livramento have been identified as their main targets. The Athletic's David Ornstein reports that a deal to take 23-year-old Ait-Nouri to the Etihad is yet to be done but all parties expect it to be achieved. The Algeria international initially joined Wolves on loan from Angers in 2020 and made the move permanent in 2021. The left-back has racked up plenty of experience, making 157 appearances for Wolves, with 41 of those coming last season when he scored five goals and provided seven assists. Livramento will be a much more difficult deal to do as Newcastle secured Champions League football for next season and do not want to sell the England international. The 22-year-old made 37 Premier League appearances last season and 45 in total as the Magpies finished fifth and won the Carabao Cup. The former Southampton defender is under contract until 2028 so it would take a huge offer from City for Newcastle to consider letting Livramento go. Magpies boss Eddie Howe spoke last month about the positive position the club is in now compared to last year when they had to sell players, which is no longer the case. 'The difference in mentality, really, for where we were, knowing that we, this time last year, we were in a selling position, we needed to raise revenue,' Howe told The Shields Gazette. More Trending 'And that's a totally different mindset to being in the one that we are now, with a different mindset and different possibilities. It is a big summer for us because every transfer window is big. 'You want to go, preferably, into the new season with a stronger squad than the one that you entered with. And that's always the challenge.' MORE: What teams are in the 2025 Club World Cup and how did they qualify? Chelsea's academy the leading producer of Premier League players last season
The Blues reclaimed top spot in the PA news agency's annual study from Manchester United, while Liverpool gave the largest share of their own first-team minutes to homegrown players. Cobham delivers the goods Newcastle duo Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall both came through Chelsea's Cobham academy (Owen Humphreys/PA) Twenty Chelsea academy graduates appeared in the top flight over the season, playing a total of 28,524 minutes. That was two players and over 5,000 minutes more than any other academy. Manchester City were second on both counts, with 18 players playing a combined 23,462 minutes, dropping United to third. Chelsea captain Reece James and fellow defenders Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah contributed heavily to their side's Champions League qualification, all earning places in the latest England squad in the process, but their academy also produced first-team regulars for other Premier League clubs. Newcastle full-backs Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, Nottingham Forest duo Ola Aina and Callum Hudson-Odoi, Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke and Aston Villa's Ian Maatsen all topped 1,000 minutes. At the other end of the scale, fellow Cobham graduate Michael Golding played 45 seconds for Leicester as a substitute against Southampton – the lowest playing time for any player to feature in the Premier League this season. United fell behind their Manchester rivals as well after selling Scott McTominay to Napoli while Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho frequently found themselves out of favour. Fourth-ranked Arsenal, helped by the emergence of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, nearly doubled their total from 11,869 minutes to 21,894. Liverpool ranked seventh with the rest of the top 10 made up of clubs from outside the Premier League – Ajax and Barcelona in fifth and sixth, with Championship sides Leeds and Hull sandwiching ninth-placed Anderlecht. Brighton, Tottenham, Leicester, Everton and Crystal Palace also ranked in the top 20, with Nottingham Forest one place outside. Brentford were the lowest-ranked Premier League club, 274th of the 275 academies represented – ahead of only Rochdale. They and Wolves were among 185 academies to produce just a single player apiece. Homegrown heroes Trent Alexander-Arnold, right, and Curtis Jones were among the homegrown contributors to Liverpool's success (Peter Byrne/PA) Liverpool's title win was heavily driven by their own academy, with homegrown players accounting for 16.7 per cent of their playing time. Trent Alexander-Arnold led the way with 2,575 minutes, with Curtis Jones and Caoimhin Kelleher also over 1,000 and Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah playing significant parts. There were cameos too for Viteszlav Jaros and Jayden Danns but Liverpool's seven homegrown players were topped by Manchester United's eight. Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Rashford, Jonny Evans, Toby Collyer, Chido Obi, Tyler Fredricson and McTominay combined to play 6,292 minutes for their formative club, 15.2 per cent of United's playing time. Colwill, Chalobah and James led Chelsea's third-placed tally of 6,150 minutes, or 14.7 per cent. Six clubs gave over 10 per cent of playing time to homegrown players, with Crystal Palace only just below that mark. That included five of the traditional 'big six', with Tottenham the only exception. Chelsea and Manchester City used six homegrown players each. Southampton had five – as did Spurs, though Mikey Moore, Brandon Austin, Dane Scarlett, Will Lankshear and Alfie Dorrington accrued just 602 minutes between them. Brentford's sole representative league-wide was at least their first homegrown player in the history of the PA academy study, Ryan Trevitt playing eight minutes against Spurs in September. That left Wolves as the only team not to field a homegrown player, though they had Luke Cundle, Wesley Okoduwa and Tom Edozie in matchday squads as unused substitutes.
