Noida cop murder case: Ghaziabad police announces rewards for those on run

The Ghaziabad police on Saturday announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for information leading to the arrest of four absconding suspects allegedly involved in the mob attack that led to the killing of Noida police constable Saurabh Kumar on the night of May 25 in Nahal village, officials said. A seven-member Noida police team had arrived at Nahal village around 11pm on May 25 to arrest Qadir, who was a suspect in the theft of a music system and ECM from a Verna car. The theft allegedly occurred on the night of May 2–3, and a first information report (FIR) was lodged at Phase 3 police station in Noida on May 21 against an unidentified person. The Noida police, in their FIR lodged at Masuri police station in Ghaziabad on May 26, stated that they were attacked twice by a mob that resorted to indiscriminate firing, during which Constable Saurabh was shot in the head and killed. 'The CCTV footage which we recovered has indicated that there were about 25–30 persons in the mob. They resorted to pelting stones at the police team. The videos available with us to date show that no one had any firearms or weapons with them,' said Surendra Nath Tiwary, DCP (Rural Zone), Ghaziabad. Tiwary added that 15 people, including Qadir and his brother Adil, have been arrested, while four others remain absconding. 'We have announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for their arrest,' Tiwary said. The Ghaziabad police maintained they were not formally informed by Noida police about the operation. They also said that only one bullet casing was recovered from the scene, even though Saurabh was shot from close range, according to the autopsy report. 'So far, we do not have evidence that could indicate that any of the arrested suspects fired a shot at Saurabh. Our investigation is continuing with eight teams, and we have roped in informers to locate any other video footage or clues,' Tiwary added. The FIR has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, attempt to murder, rioting, assault on public servants, criminal conspiracy, and criminal intimidation, along with provisions under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.

RCB's IPL 2025 campaign compared to India's World Cup-winning run in 2011: 'No one deserves it more than Virat Kohli'

Former India batter Manoj Tiwary believes Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bengaluru's talisman, deserves the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 trophy more than anyone. The Rajat Patidar-led side is currently in second place in the standings with 17 points from 12 matches. RCB, who are yet to win an IPL title, received a major shot in the arm as their chances of finishing in the top two increased significantly after Gujarat Titans' loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. If RCB win against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Ekana on Friday, then the franchise can definitely dream of finishing in the top two and having two cracks at making it to the final. Manoj Tiwary likened RCB's campaign in IPL 2025 to India's World Cup win in 2011 under MS Dhoni's leadership. He talked about how the entire country wanted India to lift the title for Sachin Tendulkar and how the sentiment is now the same for Virat Kohli and the IPL. 'With Gujarat Titans losing, RCB now have a very good chance to finish in the top two. It looks like the entire universe is working to help RCB end the trophy drought and win the IPL.,' Tiwary said on Cricbuzz. 'Virat Kohli deserves this, so many years have gone by. RCB deserves the trophy. With GT losing against Lucknow Super Giants, RCB can finish in the top two. The entire RCB team deserves to win the trophy,' he added. Tiwary also advised RCB and captain Rajat Patidar to keep pushing for Virat Kohli and ensure the batter ends up having an IPL title in his trophy cabinet. Kohli recently announced his Test retirement, having scored 9230 runs. He also ends his career as the best Indian Test captain in terms of victories (40) in the longest format. Kohli is also dominating the run-scoring charts in IPL 2025, as the right-hander has scored 505 runs in 11 matches at an average of 63.13 and a strike rate of 143.46. The batter is 133 runs away from the Orange Cap holder - Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans. "But no one deserves it more than Virat Kohli because when in 2011 the Indian team won the World Cup, we all were wishing for it because of Sachin Tendulkar. We all wanted India to win the World Cup because for so many years he serviced Indian cricket," said Tiwary. "Similarly, in franchise cricket, the leading run-getters list has been dominated by Kohli; he has been going in every year. RCB need to win the trophy for Virat Kohli. Push for him, he has been a great Indian captain as well. If RCB win this year, it will be a tribute to Virat Kohli," he added. The IPL 2025 is scheduled for June 3. Gujarat Titans, RCB, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians are the four teams that have qualified for the playoffs.

Virat Kohli had 'brain fade', told to 'close his eyes' and take U-turn on Test retirement: 'Don't know what went wrong'

A former national teammate of Virat Kohli has urged the all-time Indian great to reverse his retirement decision, appearing baffled why this moment of time was chosen for Kohli to take a step back from the format he prefers the most. Manoj Tiwary went as far as to wonder if Kohli's decision came through with a rush of blood in the head, stating that Kohli might have had a 'brain-fade' that set him down the path of opting to retire. Speaking on Cricuzz, Tiwary explained: 'Sometimes you face a time when a brain fade can happen and you make a decision. It's possible he had that too. There's a lot of cricket left in him.' Tiwary went on to explain how it particularly surprised him that the 10,000-run mark didn't factor into Kohli's decision. Kohli finished his career on 9230 runs from 123 matches, just 670 short of that five-digit mark that only three Indian players have reached in Test cricket. 'He was too close to 10,000 runs. Although it might not be important to him, a lot of young cricketers dream of making their name in Test cricket and reaching that milestone,' said Tiwary of this situation. 'He had a good chance. I don't know what happened or what went wrong that he made this decision.' Given Kohli's proximity to that 10,000 run mark and his importance to Indian Test cricket, not just through performance but its cultural standing, Tiwary urged Kohli to think further on the decision and reconsider. 'I'll ask him to close his eyes and take the retirement back as soon as possible,' said the retired batter. 'It'll bring back the happiness on the faces of all cricket fans.' Tiwary went on to explain how he had once made a similar decision, retiring from First Class cricket for Bengal, before walking back his decision after realising he wasn't ready to bid farewell to cricket, returning to compete in Ranji cricket. 'Even I did that. I took back retirement from first-class cricket after just five days and then played for Bengal, trying to win the Ranji Trophy,' concluded Tiwary. Given Kohli has always been a man and a player of great conviction, it seems unlikely this will be a decision he walks back. Nevertheless, a farewell Test remains something that all Indian fans would love to see the great man receive.
