New God Of War game is 'smaller scale' 2D Metroidvania claim insiders

The next God Of War game might revolve around Kratos' brother, as rumours escalate ahead of Sony's State Of Play. There have been rumours around a new God Of War game, set in Ancient Greece, since earlier this year, but new details have come to light ahead of Sony's State Of Play presentation on Wednesday night. Previous rumours described it as a 'side story' prequel starring young Kratos, although it's never been clear if the gameplay would be similar to God Of War Ragnarök or the original Greek trilogy which began on the PlayStation 2. According to several insiders, it seems this spin-off might be something completely different and more comparable to a game like Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown, in terms of scale and gameplay. The information comes from Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, who previously claimed the new project would be set in Ancient Greece. Following the announcement of Sony's State Of Play, a user on X asked him if the rumoured God Of War project might appear. In response, Henderson wrote: 'Hearing a lot of scuttlebutt about the 2.5D/Metroidvania game or whatever it will be, yeah. Seems to be much smaller in scale than what I initially thought.' Fellow insider Jeff Grubb also appeared to corroborate these claims, by posting a 'Yeah' in agreement. Hearing a lot of scuttlebutt about the 2.5D/metroidvania game or whatever it will be, yeah. Seems to be much smaller in scale than what I initially thought. — Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) June 3, 2025 As posted on Reddit, a number of other rumours have emerged around the title. According to Xbox Era's Nick Baker, Kratos' brother Deimos will be playable, although it's unclear if he'll be the main protagonist. The game is also rumoured to be developed by Mega Cat Studios (Five Nights At Freddy's: Into The Pit), under the supervision of Sony's Santa Monica Studio, who have developed all the mainline God Of War games. The project has also been compared to 2019's Blasphemous, although it's unclear if that's because of the Metroidvania element or the visual style. More Trending While it's unclear if this project will be announced during Sony's State Of Play later tonight, the acceleration of rumours certainly suggests it could be. This isn't the only rumour which has emerged following the State Of Play announcement. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier appeared to hint on Bluesky that a 'remaster' of Final Fantasy Tactics might show up. As others have noted, the game's director Yasumi Matsuno also retweeted the State Of Play post, before swiftly deleting it. A PlayStation 5 port of Gravity Rush Remastered has been rumoured too, based on a prior database listing, but this appears to have been debunked. While it's always worth taking such rumours with a pinch of salt, Sony is promising a 40+ minute show, so it should be pretty substantial. The State Of Play broadcast kicks off later today (June 4) at 10pm BST across YouTube and Twitch. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. The Crew 3 and Assassin's Creed 4 remake in development at Ubisoft claims source

Ubisoft has greenlit another entry in its leading racing game franchise according to an insider, as rumours grow around an Assassin's Creed remake. Between Summer Game Fest and the Xbox showcase this week, we're officially in the premium month for big gaming announcements. This year's not-E3 season encompasses a wealth of other presentations too, including a panel for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the PC Gaming Show, and indie game showcase Day Of The Devs. To amplify proceedings, a Nintendo Direct is also rumoured to be taking place around the Switch 2's launch on June 5, 2025. One company who appears to be absent from all of this is Ubisoft, who haven't announced a presentation and haven't (so far) been listed as one of the partners at Summer Game Fest. However, a wave of rumours indicate some announcements might be imminent from the publisher. According to insider Tom Henderson, who has a history of leaks around Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed, a new entry in The Crew series has been 'greenlit' at the company. While he doesn't go into any specifics, Henderson does clarify that it will be a mainline title and not a sequel to 2023's The Crew Motorfest, which was originally planned as DLC for The Crew 2. There are rumblings of other Ubisoft projects too. In a recent livestream, artists at statue makers Pure Arts strongly hinted at the rumoured remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. During the livestream, the host from Pure Arts highlighted the absence of Black Flag's protagonist Edward Kenway in a new collection of Assassin's Creed figures. 'Assassin's Creed fans out there, you should be aware that there is something going on with Edward,' they remarked. His comments prompted some confusion with the livestream's co-host, who replied: 'Oh, has that been announced?' 'I think so,' the other host replied. 'I'm pretty sure I saw rumours about it. No I definitely saw an article about this.' Ubisoft hasn't officially announced a remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, but one has been rumoured for years. This also comes after Ubisoft posted a screenshot of the game's title screen just last week, which many fans took as a tease of things to come. Several other projects are up in the air too. We've barely heard anything about the Splinter Cell remake, which was announced four years ago, and yet Ubisoft recently posted a similarly odd tease on social media. More Trending We haven't heard anything from the long-delayed remake of the Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time either, after development was restarted. It was recently suggested (via Podcast Now) we might hear some update on the remake soon, but this was debunked as speculation by the show's host. Aside from a Switch 2 port of Star Wars Outlaws, we know very little about Ubisoft's slate for the rest of this year. There's rumours of several Assassin's Creed spin-offs, while mobile title Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence and real-time strategy game Anno 117: Pax Romana are both scheduled for 'late 2025'. It's possible all of this could be clarified during a presentation this month, as traditionally there is usually a Ubisoft Forward event during this same not-E3 season. However, with Ubisoft going through financial woes, there's currently a big question mark over the company's entire future and so far they haven't announced any summer showcase. GTA 6 release date and online mode reveal weeks away, per latest leak

For more than a year, Rockstar has kept a tight grip on GTA 6 after a series of unprecedented leaks revealed unfinished gameplay from the highly anticipated title long before its official announcement, followed in 2023 by the premature release of its first trailer. Since then, it's been crickets — though, according to publisher Take-Two Interactive, the silence is part of its marketing masterplan for a game poised to be one of the biggest releases in gaming and entertainment history. But now, the dam is about to break, and it seems the walls aren't as impenetrable as they first seemed. • Read more: How much will GTA 6 cost and can you pre-order it? The game is available to pre-order in Switzerland for £87 With just months to go until its autumn release, a massive new GTA 6 leak is on the horizon. Tom Henderson — known for accurately leaking the PS5 Slim and Pro models and reporting on Ubisoft's recent troubles — recently teased a 'well-researched' story on GTA 6's online mode during the Insider Gaming podcast. He said the article is set to drop within the next two weeks. While neither Rockstar nor Take-Two have confirmed if GTA 6 will feature a multiplayer mode, it seems almost certain. Given that the current GTA Online has been a massive earner, and was eventually spun off as a standalone title, it's hard to imagine the next entry skipping a similar feature. Earlier this year, Digiday reported that Rockstar has been in talks with top Roblox and Fortnite creators to help shape GTA 6's online world. The aim is to bring user-generated content into the game, letting players build their own mini-game-style experiences, expanding on the features that let players create races and missions currently. It's a clear move to turn GTA 6 into a creator economy powerhouse, much like Roblox and Fortnite. Players can expect tools to tweak environments and, potentially, a way for players to make money through in-game purchases. The plan builds on Rockstar's softer stance toward mods and custom servers — underscored by its 2023 buyout of the team behind the hugely popular FiveM platform for GTA V. Henderson also predicted that Take Two could confirm GTA 6's official release date during its upcoming earnings call on May 15. This time last year, Take-Two set a massive $8bn (almost £6bn) net bookings target for the fiscal year 2025 (April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025). Such an ambitious forecast led analysts to speculate that only a major title like GTA 6 could drive that level of revenue. When Take-Two later confirmed a Fall 2025 release window for GTA 6, the link between the financial target and the game's launch became even clearer. If Take-Two's fiscal guidance for 2026 mirrors this, we can expect the game to drop later this year or by next spring, according to Insider Gaming's Mike Straw. However, if the game is delayed, Rockstar is more likely to push it to October or November 2026, as opposed to a spring release, Henderson said. A delay at this stage, he added, would signal 'fundamental issues' with its development.

GTA 6 and Ghost of Yotei clash in fall 2025: who will win the spotlight?

Source: X With Ghost of Yōtei, the next installment of the much-anticipated Ghost of Tsushima series, set to drop on October 2, 2025, it faces off directly against one of gaming's most hotly anticipated releases of all time, Grand Theft Auto VI. Both games are penciled in to arrive in the same fall window, which means this confrontation represents a key date in the gaming schedule. With all the hype for GTA 6 , Ghost of Yōtei will have to fight hard to find its footing. The battle for attention: GTA 6 vs Ghost of Yōtei GTA 6 has fast become a cultural phenomenon, with fans eagerly awaiting the next huge release from Rockstar Games . Its influence on the gaming landscape is set to be colossal, with some predicting it could be one of the decade's largest entertainment releases. Based in a realistic, open-world setting replete with interactive storytelling and next-generation gameplay, GTA 6 is set to take headlines and capture millions of players globally. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo However, the Ghost of Yōtei has its own distinct charm. Being a stealth-action samurai game, it presents a distinct genre experience from GTA 6's crime drama. Sucker Punch Productions develops the game and carries the lineage of the much-acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, which itself received widespread acclaim for its visuals, innovative fighting mechanics, and rich storytelling. However, the challenge for Ghost of Yōtei lies in launching in the shadow of GTA 6's cultural and media dominance. What does this mean for Ghost of Yōtei's success? While Ghost of Yōtei boasts an exclusive PlayStation 5 release, which gives it an advantage in attracting a dedicated fanbase, the fierce competition from GTA 6 could affect its visibility. The GTA 6 juggernaut will likely dominate social media, gaming forums, and news outlets, making it difficult for other releases to shine as brightly. Yet, Ghost of Yōtei's unique setting and gameplay mechanics may still attract PlayStation fans eager for a different kind of experience, particularly those who prefer narrative-driven, single-player adventures. With a dedicated fan base, a specific genre niche, and being released exclusively on PlayStation 5, Ghost of Yōtei has the ingredients to stay in the limelight. But, during the busy fall release period, its success will highly be dependent on how effective it is in separating itself from GTA 6's shadow. The autumn of 2025 promises to be one of gaming's most competitive times, with GTA 6 and Ghost of Yōtei both competing for the spotlight. Though GTA 6's reign is all but guaranteed, Ghost of Yōtei might find some niche among PlayStation users. It will be worth watching what these two titans do as they vie for attention.
