Regé-Jean Page to produce and potentially star in ‘Funny You Should Ask' series for Apple

Regé-Jean Page is set to executive produce and is expected to star in the Apple TV adaptation of Funny You Should Ask, based on the bestselling novel by Elissa Sussman. The project, currently in development, comes from Tomorrow Studios, with Page and producing partner Emily Brown attached via their A Mighty Stranger Production banner. The romantic drama follows a young journalist who interviews a Hollywood icon — a role Page is poised to play — and reconnects with him a decade later. Rachel Alter is adapting the novel for the screen and will also serve as executive producer alongside Page, Brown, Robin Schwartz, Carolyn Daucher, and the production team at Tomorrow Studios. This marks Page's anticipated return to television since his breakout role as Simon Basset in Bridgerton. The role in Funny You Should Ask is particularly fitting, as the fictional movie star is the latest James Bond ,a part Page has long been favoured to play by fans. If greenlit, it would bring Page back into the romantic spotlight with a contemporary edge. Published in 2022, the novel follows a young journalist tasked with interviewing a famous Hollywood actor who has just been cast as the new James Bond. Their interview sparks unexpected chemistry, leading to a weekend that changes everything. Ten years later, they reunite, forcing them both to confront what really happened between them and what it still means. Page's recent credits include Black Bag, The Gray Man, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

‘The Better Sister' Stars React to Murder Mystery Reveal: 'They Totally Threw Me Off and I Was There'

[The following story contains spoilers from the Prime Video limited series .] When the execs at production company Tomorrow Studios were talking to people about producing a TV adaptation of Alafair Burke's The Better Sister, they would ask prospective partners after reading the first episode who they thought was behind the story's central murder mystery of who killed Adam Macintosh, played in the Prime Video limited series by Corey Stoll. More from The Hollywood Reporter 'Lee Soo Man: King of K-Pop' Director and Subject Talk New Prime Video Documentary Frank Gehry, Theaster Gates and Wendy Schmidt Earn "Legend" Status at Star-Studded MOCA Gala Keanu Reeves Applauds Ana de Armas' "Joy for the Action" as She Joins 'John Wick' Universe 'People had different answers,' Tomorrow Studios president and Better Sister executive producer Becky Clements told The Hollywood Reporter at The Better Sister's New York premiere last month. 'And for us that was perfect, because you wouldn't be able to predict.' Even the Better Sister actors were surprised when they learned who did it, despite helping to realize the narrative. 'I was shocked because they put so many twists and turns,' Maxwell Acee Donovan, who plays Adam's son and murder suspect, Ethan Macintosh. 'Even after we made it and I've been watching it, they totally threw me off and I'm like, I was there. I did not see it coming.' That sentiment was echoed by the actors behind a number of other key characters in Ethan's murder trial. 'I was shocked,' Austin Smith, who plays the prosecutor making a case against Ethan told THR. 'As somebody who usually figures it out, I was shocked. So I'm hoping audiences will be as well.' And Bobby Naderi who plays Detective Bowen indicated he was upset he wasn't able to connect the dots: 'I was like I can't believe I didn't see it. But I was genuinely paying attention because I know what type of world I'm in but I was like I can't believe I missed that. The nuggets are there but you just have to be super observant and into that world.' And Lorraine Toussaint, who plays Chloe's (Jessica Biel) mentor Catherine, hopes audiences get caught in the story's twists and turns as she did. 'I got screwed up several times when reading it because I thought, 'I know who the murderer is; I know who the murderer is' and, 'Oh God, it's not that person; it's not that person,' so I was really shocked when it turned out to be the person it turned out to be,' she said. 'So I think the audience is going to go on the same kind of journey I did, which is a lot of wrong guessing, which is the fun of it all.' In addition to learning who killed Adam, viewers see Chloe and Nicky (Elizabeth Banks) come together to protect Ethan, who has learned the truth about why he was taken away from his biological mother and raised by his aunt. For Ethan, who's already been through so much in the series, Donovan says what he thinks comes next for his character involves some real psychological work. 'He's in such a different place than we found him at the beginning. He's going to have to basically rebuild his life and kind of redefine what he means and how he interacts with the world,' Donovan said. 'It's interesting because he's still 17. He's still a kid. He's got that opportunity to reinvent himself at a very young age, but I don't think it was anything that anyone was expecting him to have to do.' As for Chloe, Biel has a radical suggestion of what her character should do next. 'I hope Chloe changes careers fully and moves away, starts a new life, gets a new haircut — not that I don't love the bob — but I think she needs new color, new vibe, new wardrobe,' she told THR. 'I think she needs a full re-do, start over situation, with her new family.' Though The Better Sister is a limited series and based on a book with a beginning and end, showrunners Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado told THR they were open to telling more of the sisters' journey, with Milch specifically teasing, 'Even though at the end of the season, so many secrets have been revealed and so many mysteries sort of have been solved, there's now this new set of lies agreed upon, and secrets and choices that have been made that are setting things in motion.' Speaking to THR again at the Better Sister premiere, Milch stressed that she and Corrado wanted the limited series to feel 'satisfying and complete as a story,' but as for what's next for the characters, 'I think for us the question is, 'What happens now that the sisters are now back together?' They start so far apart, and then have to find each other once again. So where does that go? Is it possible? You find each other. Do you forgive? Can you move forward and what does that look like?' Corrado added, 'There's so much that's unresolved too. It's the big stuff that was resolved but not the internal.' Tomorrow Studios' executive vp, development, and Better Sister executive producer Alissa Bachner, said the production company would be open to continuing on the Better Sister journey if the opportunity presented itself. 'Yes, of course we would,' she told THR. 'Olivia and Regina are incredible storytellers and creators and if they want to keep telling the story, we would love that.' All eight episodes of The Better Sister are now streaming on Prime Video. Read THR's interview with Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks and the series' showrunners. Lego dives into anime for the first time with new ‘One Piece' sets

Today, Lego is dipping its toes into a massive world of IP that it hasn't explored in nearly 100 years as a brand: anime. The company is gearing up to release a new line of sets inspired by One Piece, the popular manga and anime series that's now also a live-action show from Netflix—marking the first time Lego has adapted an anime property. The collaboration includes five unique sets inspired by Netflix's 2023 adaptation of One Piece, which was originally published as a manga comic 1997 and made into an iconic anime show in 1999. When Netflix's interpretation of the series, co-produced by Tomorrow Studios, launched its first season in 2023, it spent eight weeks in Netflix's Global Top 10 Shows list, debuting at the top of the charts in 46 countries and amassing 71.6 million views in four months. The second season is expected to drop in 2026. It appears that Lego sees an opportunity to follow up on Netflix's success with its own win. Each of the five new sets, which range from $29.99 to $329.99, are inspired by the most recognizable locations in Netflix's One Piece. The sets are available for preorder today, and will officially become available on August 1. Lego's foray into the anime world makes sense for a brand that's increasingly turning its focus from open-world sets to IP-based collections. In recent years, the company has doubled down on partnerships with properties like Back to the Future, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Marvel, Minecraft, and Super Mario World, to name a few. The strategy seems to be working: In its full-year 2024 report, Lego notched year-over-year revenue growth of 13%, totaling $10.53 billion. designing their own Lego interpretations of properties like Naruto, My Neighbor Totoro, and K-On! Now, the dream is finally a reality. A first for both Lego and 'One Piece' One Piece follows a young pirate, Monkey D. Luffy, and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, to find a legendary piece of treasure called 'One Piece.' Netflix and Tomorrow Studios' live-action version of the series was created in collaboration with the manga's creator, Eiichiro Oda. The crew used a combination of CGI and practical effects to mimic the cartoony aesthetic of the source material while capturing its whimsical, magic-infused settings. According to Andrew Hugh Seenan, Lego's creative lead on the One Piece collection, the show has 'all the ingredients to make great Lego sets.' 'It's a seafaring world of adventure with a vast range of imaginative island locations,' Seenan explains. 'It has a great range of diverse and unique characters, both good and bad, all with their own visual style, personalities, and abilities. There is also a clear mission and call to adventure—to find the legendary One Piece treasure.' The effort to adapt One Piece into Lego bricks was a two-year collaboration that involved an ongoing back-and-forth between the show's designers and creatives and Lego's design team. Josh Simon, Netflix's vice president of consumer products, says it was also crucial to receive support from Oda himself. 'Together with Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha, we approached Oda-sensei with a vision to bring the beloved action series adaptation to life in Lego form—the first time in the history of the franchise,' Simon says. In a statement posted online, Oda wrote of the collaboration, 'Even now, I have dozens of Lego boxes piled up at my workplace that I haven't even had time to dig into. There's no cooler toy out there!! For 25 years since the anime started, I've been asking for a Lego toy, and finally my dream is being fulfilled with a live-action collection!' Adapting 'One Piece's' most iconic sets into brick form To land on the five playsets in the collection, Simon and Seenan's teams started by analyzing the most iconic scenes both from the Netflix show's first season and from the overall franchise. 'Our goal was to ensure the collection served the full spectrum of the fanbase—from kids who are watching One Piece for the first time on Netflix to adult fans who have been following the Straw Hats for decades,' Simon says. Sets include 'The Going Merry Pirate Ship,' a lego-ified version of Luffy's iconic skull-and-crossbones adorned vessel; 'Battle at Arlong Park,' a depiction of the main battle in the show's first season; and the 'Baratie Floating Restaurant,' a massive 3,402-piece version of the show's ocean-going restaurant. Also available are a version of the port city 'Windmill Village' and 'Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent,' the carnival-esque dwelling of one of Luffy's main enemies. From Lego's perspective, faithfully bringing each of these locations to life in brick form was an intensive process. To start, Seenan says, many of Lego's designers (who are also One Piece fans) analyzed the Netflix show's first season in detail prior to the beginning of concept development. Then members of the Lego team met with the show's creatives in locations including Los Angeles, London, Amsterdam, Billund, Tokyo, and Singapore to develop the sets and discuss designs. 'A few lucky team members got to go and have a closer look at the set during shooting in Cape Town,' Seenan says. 'Netflix also shared lots of reference materials, including many images and concept art of the different locations, sets, character outfits, and, of course, detailed designs of the Going Merry, the iconic ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, so we could ensure we got the sets just right.' The same attention to detail was applied to recreating each of Luffy's crew members in Lego minifigure form. Luffy himself, for example, comes with long, stretched arms to mimic his magical abilities in the show. His straw hat has been reimagined as a tiny accessory. And each minifigure sports facial expressions designed to reflect their portrayal in the live-action series. 'There were several fun challenges, particularly with the characters,' Seenan says. '[The swordmaster character] Zoro famously has three swords, and we needed to find a way to attach one of those to his mouth, like he does in the show. We explored several different options and, in the end, designed a new Lego element that is attached around the Minifigures neck, giving the impression the sword is in his mouth.' Since teasing the upcoming collection, Simon says, the feedback that Netflix received has been 'phenomenal' across its social channels: 'It was clear within the first 24 hours of our announcement that the fandom was embracing the news on a level we hadn't seen before.' For Lego, Seenan adds, anime is a 'huge and very exciting area' for the company to explore. 'There is such a huge and passionate anime fan base, and we know that many fans are as excited as us about bringing One Piece to life in Lego bricks,' Seenan says.
