Scottish Premiership side Dundee make Healy approach

Dundee want to speak to Linfield boss David Healy about their managerial vacancy at Dens Park. Last month the Dark Blues sacked Tony Docherty one day after securing their Scottish Premiership status for next season in the final game of the campaign. Advertisement Healy, who is the Northern Ireland men's team's record goalscorer, has been in charge of Linfield since 2015 with a club spokesperson confirming to BBC Sport NI that the terms of the 45-year-old's contract allow him to discuss the move. This season's Irish Premiership title was Healy's sixth at the Windsor Park helm with the Blues finishing 22 points ahead of Larne. He has also won two Irish Cups, three BetMcLean Cups and one County Antrim Shield during his time in charge of the Blues. In August, the former Manchester United and Rangers striker turned down the opportunity to take over at Scottish Championship side Raith Rovers and said he was "content" at Linfield. Former Celtic midfielder Shaun Maloney, as well as former Dundee players Charlie Adam and Temuri Ketsbaia, have also been linked to the role.

JIM SPENCE: Does anyone know what Gordon Strachan Dundee 'philosophy' comments mean?

It sounds like big things are expected of Dundee's next manager, but is anyone clear as to what they are? Technical director Gordon Strachan says there'll be a new philosophy at Dens, but what that means is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Having shipped goals like a sieve last season, does it mean the team will be much less cavalier in attack and much more defensively astute? And if keeping the team in the Premiership, albeit narrowly, wasn't sufficient to save Tony Docherty's job, what targets have been set for his replacement (the Dark Blues' third boss in four years)? If Doc's results fell short of the standard expected, as the club said, just what standards are acceptable? Presumably, the expectations will be clearly outlined to the new manager, and the extent of them may have a bearing on which candidates fancy the job. It's one thing setting ambitious and exacting standards; it's another to provide the resources to allow a manager to meet them.

Dundee announce first pre-season friendly

Managerless Dundee have lined up their first friendly ahead of the 2025/26 season. The Dark Blues remain in the hunt to find Tony Docherty's successor after his sacking on May 19. Preparations, though, for the new season are still being made with the club's pre-season schedule being put together. The first match of the campaign is expected to be on July 12 in the Premier Sports Cup. They will kick off their pre-season at Arbroath two weeks before that. The newly-crowned League One champions will host the Dark Blues on Saturday, June 28. Kick off will be 3pm.
