Cillian Murphy-starring Steve to have world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival

The Cillian Murphy-starring Steve is to receive its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, where it will compete as part of the festival's Platform programme. The Platform programme is described as "a first glimpse at some of the most compelling cinematic voices on the rise" and champions "bold directorial vision and distinctive storytelling". The Platform Award is the only juried prize at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from 4 to 14 September. The school-based drama Steve reunites Murphy with Small Things Like These director Tim Mielants and co-star Emily Watson. The film will be released in selected Irish cinemas in September and will arrive on Netflix on 3 October. Steve is described as "a reimagining" of Max Porter's best-selling novel Shy. The British author has written the screenplay and is also the film's executive producer. "The film follows a pivotal day in the life of headteacher Steve (Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy) and his students at a last-chance reform school amidst a world that has forsaken them," says Netflix. "As Steve fights to protect the school's integrity and impending closure, we witness him grappling with his own mental health. "In parallel to Steve's struggles, we meet Shy (Jay Lycurgo), a troubled teen caught between his past and what lies ahead as he tries to reconcile his inner fragility with his impulse for self-destruction and violence." Joining Murphy, Watson, and newcomer Lycurgo in Steve are Tracey Ullman (The Tracey Ullman Show, Mrs America) and Simbi Ajikawo (Top Boy) aka rapper Little Simz. Having launched their company Big Things Films with the acclaimed adaptation of Claire Keegan's bestseller Small Things Like These, Murphy and his production partner Alan Moloney are releasing Steve as their second feature. Murphy and author Porter previously collaborated on the stage adaptation of Porter's Grief is the Thing with Feathers and the short film All of This Unreal Time. "I just adore Max's writing and the thing his writing does for me, which Claire Keegan's writing does as well - and it's something I've always chased down in writing - is something that has an actual visceral effect on you, an emotional effect," the Cork actor told entertainment trade publication Deadline when Steve was first announced in February 2024. "I remember reading Foster, Claire's short story, I remember actually crying reading the book and having to put my hood up on the train to try to hide, I was so embarrassed. "And then Shy was also that book. Max gave me that book in a proof edition before he finished it, and again it just broke my heart. They're the sorts of things I love as a reader and as a performer, so I really wanted to do something with him."

Will Poulter's model ex claims he dumped her over WhatsApp 'without warning'

Hollywood actor Will Poulter was in a relationship with model Bobby T for three years, but she claims he 'ghosted' her and her son over WhatsApp and left without warning Will Poulter's ex-girlfriend has accused him of 'ghosting' her and her son after she claims he dumped her 'without warning' over WhatsApp. The 32-year-old was in a three-year relationship with model Bobby T, who at 45 is 13 years older than him. ‌ The actor, who shot to fame in E4 sketch show School of Comedy, is thought to have moved on with Top Boy actress Saffron Hocking, 31, after the pair were spotted having lunch and spending time together at Glastonbury Festival and Wimbledon. ‌ But his ex - who says the pair were discussing marriage and had built a life together before Will disappeared 'like he never existed' - has taken to social media to publicly blast his actions, especially as he was a stepdad to her young son. ‌ Taking to Instagram, Bobby - whose real name is Erin Campaneris - wrote in her stories: "Just so there's no confusion, I was in a real relationship for almost three years. We built a life together. We planned the details of our wedding. He wasn't just in my life. He was in my son's." She continued: "He called him his stepson and they had a real relationship. Because of his age my son only remembers a life when he was there. That was his normal. ‌ "He was there for first days of school and volunteered his his classroom. He came to school meetings and showed up in every way. The school knew him as family. "Then one day with no warning and no signs of trouble he just ended it over WhatsApp. That was it. Just gone." Describing how she was 'in love', Bobby said: "We were blindsided. But what hurts most is how easily he disappeared, especially from my son's perspective. Like he never existed. ‌ 'I have waited months in hope that I would have more clarity, but I wasn't given that by him or his family, who we considered family too." She went on to say she "didn't even get their belongings back" after the split, believed to have happened earlier this year. Detailing how she had faced cruelty and judgment from other women in the wake of the break up, Bobby said: "I am not scorned. I just want the truth to be known so I can move forward with my life in peace. Please let this be all and I will not be sharing any more." Will and Bobby were first linked in 2022 when they were seen kissing on the streets of West Hollywood. She lives in America with her son, while Will is thought to split his time between America and the UK. ‌ Speaking of Will and Bobby's romance, a source said the pair realised their connection "wasn't going to last long term". It's said Bobby's main priority remains her son. Will - who has also starred in Hollywood films The Chronicles of Narnia, We Are The Millers, Maze Runner and The Revenant - is said to have struggled with balancing the distance and work. The source continued to tell The Sun: "He's known Saffron for a while but they have been spending more time together recently. They were both hosted by Barbour at Glasto and got on like a house on fire. It's very early days and while they might be telling people they are just friends, the sparks between them are obvious to everyone." The Mirror has reached out to Will's reps for comment on this story.

Will Poulter 'splits from older girlfriend' as romance rumours with Top Boy actress heat up

Actor Will Poulter is thought to have quietly ended his three-year relationship with model Bobby T, with speculation suggesting he is growing closer to Top Boy star Saffron Hocking Will Poulter is said to have split from his model girlfriend after three years together. The Bear star, 32, and model Bobby T, 45, have reportedly quietly gone their separate ways, with rumours suggesting Will has already moved on. ‌ The duo were initially spotted kissing in 2022, but have now called time on their romance, according to reports. It has led to speculation Will is getting to know Top Boy actress Saffron Hocking. ‌ Will and Saffron, 31, were seen having lunch together recently after they had enjoyed time together at Glastonbury last month. Speaking of Will and Bobby's romance, a source said the pair realised their connection "wasn't going to last long term". ‌ It's said Bobby's main priority remains her son and she lives in America. Will, meanwhile is said to have struggled with balancing the distance and work. The source continued to tell The Sun: "He's known Saffron for a while but they have been spending more time together recently. They were both hosted by Barbour at Glasto and got on like a house on fire. It's very early days and while they might be telling people they are just friends, the sparks between them are obvious to everyone." ‌ Saffron starred in the Netflix series of Top Boy as Lauryn. She played the part of the pregnant mum-to-be who suffers domestic abuse before deciding to take matters into her own hands. Her performance earned her a TV BAFTA nomination. It's thought Will and Saffron first met two years ago. At the time they were both said to be working on a Friend of the Earth campaign. ‌ Born and raised in London, Will first broke into the acting industry when he was just 13 years old. While his career was taking off, the young actor was privately dealing with an OCD diagnosis. Earlier this year, he opened up about the condition during an appearance on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast. He revealed that he was diagnosed as a teenager and said he recalled having intrusive thoughts, a common symptom of OCD, throughout his childhood. However, he said the issue had a child-like 'imaginative spin' as he was growing up. The actor explained: "It [the OCD] just had a different and typically imaginative spin on it for a child. I can remember having this voice in my head, telling me if I didn't walk on certain paving stones on the way up to my mum and dad's house, something terrible was going to happen to them." ‌ "I was really lucky. I got access to therapy in my early teens. I was probably 14 when I first started experiencing obsessive compulsive thoughts and the ruminations and intrusive thoughts," he added. Will also confessed: "Until it was diagnosed and until I received that therapy, I just thought I was totally alone with this condition, or not even condition at that time, this way of thinking, with this defunct brain. I was so scared. "And that I think is the scariest thing about any mental health issues and you can never underestimate how alone someone can feel in their state."
