Create Account Poulin, who was also named forward of the year, was presented the awards at a ceremony Wednesday afternoon in Ottawa. The 34-year-old Poulin, from Beauceville, Que., led the league with 19 goals and finished fourth with 26 points in 30 games. Poulin was also a finalist for the MVP and top forward awards in the inaugural 2024 PWHL season. Both awards were won by Toronto's Natalie Spooner. The awards capped another year of major achievements for Poulin, who was also named the IIHF's Female Player of the Year earlier this month after taking MVP honours at the 2025 women's world championship with a tournament-leading 12 points (four goals, eight assists). Toronto Sceptres defender Renata Fast and Boston Fleet captain Hilary Knight (now with Seattle) were the other MVP finalists, while Knight and New York Sirens forward Sarah Fillier were up for forward of the year. Fast took home defender of the year honours while Fillier was named the league's top rookie. The 30-year-old Fast, from Burlington, tied for first in scoring among defenders with 22 points in 30 games, led the league with 63 hits, and led all skaters with an average of 24 minutes 39 seconds of ice time per game. Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson of the PWHL champion Minnesota Frost (both now with Vancouver) were the other finalists. Fillier, 25, from Georgetown, Ont., tied for the league lead with 29 points in 30 games and led the league with five power-play goals. Montreal's Ann-Renee Desbiens took goaltender of the year honours. The 31-year-old from Clermont, Que., led all goaltenders with 15 wins and her 1.86 goals-against average and .932 save percentage were top marks among all starters. Montreal's Kori Cheverie won coach of the year after leading the Victoire to first place in the PWHL standings with a 12-7-3-8 record. Ottawa's Carla MacLeod and Toronto's Troy Ryan, who won the award last year, were also in the running. Victoire forward Laura Stacey won the Hockey For All Award given to the player 'who made the greatest impact in their community.' Poulin, Fillier, Knight, Fast, Jaques and Desbiens were named to the league's first all-star team. Minnesota's Kendall Coyne Schofield, Ottawa's Tereza Vanisova (now with Vancouver), Toronto's Daryl Watts, New York's Ella Shelton (now with Toronto), Thompson and Frankel were named to the second all-star team. SEBOKENG.- It was a hive of sporting activities at various venues in the Vaal over the weekend as part of the commemoration of June 16. There was action galore at Zone 13 Technical Sports ground with local teams participating in the Mochini Top 4 Soccer Tournament, which came to an end on Monday. It was grassroots football at its best, with youngsters showcasing their God-given talent. One For Sorry FC were crowned the tournament champions in the U11 section after they beat Rhinos FC 2-0 in the nail-biting final. The hero was none other than Khwesi 'Malender' Nale. He also scooped the Top Goal Scorer Award for his brilliant performance throughout the tournament. Nicholas 'Safe Hands' Mokoena was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Both players represent One For Sorry FC. In another final of the day, Mighty Classic FC from Zone 19 was crowned the U15 champions. This was after they beat One For Sorry FC 4-3 on penalties. This was after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw after full time, and the game had to be decided on penalties. It was a great final to watch with the nearby community coming to witness the talent of these future Bafana Bafana stars. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Thabiso 'Madida' Nkoko said it was a day well spent watching talent galore. According to him, the tournament gave these upcoming stars a platform to showcase their talent. 'We witnessed a great development in football with these youngsters displaying quality football. I do not doubt that everyone went home satisfied from what they saw. It was an exciting tournament and we are already looking forward to next year's tournament,' said Nkoko.
