Amusement Park Ride Malfunction Leaves Over 30 People Stuck in Mid-Air for 3 Hours
Over 30 people were stranded for hours on a stalled park attraction at VGP Universal Kingdom in Chennai, India. Rescue efforts took nearly three hours and required intervention from local firefighters. The park is under investigation for negligence and safety violations, and remains closed pending least 30 people were stranded more than 50 feet in the air during a terrifying ordeal at an amusement park. Earlier this week, at VGP Universal Kingdom in Chennai, India, an attraction full of passengers — including eight children — reportedly came to a sudden halt during its expected three-minute runtime. The ride, named Top Gun, is designed to ascend vertically before plunging into its high-speed descent. However, it unexpectedly stalled at its peak around 7 p.m. local time with a loud mechanical jolt, according to The Economic Times. Passengers allegedly held onto the ride's safety bars and shouted for help as many reported feeling dizzy, dehydrated, and increasingly panicked as the minutes turned into hours. 'It was complete chaos,' one woman told Press Trust of India (PTI), per the outlet. 'Panic broke out on the ride, but help didn't arrive for nearly two hours.' Another rider said he used his phone and Instagram to call for emergency support. The park's staff allegedly attempted to rescue the passengers on their own initially, but were unsuccessful. It wasn't until around 10 p.m. — three hours after the attraction broke, and after multiple rescue attempts, including with a crane — that local firefighters were able to safely get everyone down. Medical assistance was provided on-site. PEOPLE has reached out to VGP Universal Kingdom for comment but has not received a response at the time of publication. The amusement park attraction, which costs 600 rupees (roughly $7) per rider and accommodates up to 38 passengers, has been closed for inspection. As outlined in the park's guidelines, Top Gun is not recommended for guests with certain health conditions, including heart issues and high blood pressure, or for those prone to dizziness. According to a local publication, ETV Bharat, following the incident, several victims reported to the police that the park staff did not properly implement adequate safety measures. Neelankarai Police have since launched an investigation into the ordeal. An initial investigating officer told The Economic Times, 'Preliminary findings suggest the ride was not properly maintained and had preexisting mechanical issues that were ignored by the operators.' The Neelankarai police reportedly issued a notice to the park's administrative manager requesting details on safety protocols. Additionally, a joint inspection by Chennai Municipal Corporation officials and police will assess whether the park meets required safety standards. Until then, VGP Universal Kingdom will remain closed, and officials said legal action may follow if violations are uncovered. Read the original article on People

Why Tom Cruise Really Screamed at Mission: Impossible 7 Crew
Ever since the leaked audio of outburst on the sets of went viral, fans have been divided on the veteran actor blatantly yelling at his crew. However, a whopping five years after the clip made its way onto the internet, director Christopher McQuarrie has come out to provide context to the situation, all the while defending his lead actor's actions. In a recent discussion, the veteran director noted the reason behind the Top Gun actor's explosive reaction in the leaked audio. It was due to some of the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One crew members constantly breaking social distancing rules on set, despite the severity of the rapidly spreading coronavirus at the time. While recently speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Christopher McQuarrie provided insight into the arduous process of filming two movies against the backdrop of the COVID-19 outbreak. He shared, '[When you] factor in a pandemic and two industry strikes, what should have been a two and a half year process for both movies stretched onto seven years. The Jack Reacher director then revealed that Tom Cruise was actually addressing only five people in the leaked audio. He then explained how 'two of the people there were people who had been specifically tasked with the health and safety of our crew and had repeatedly not lived up to that responsibility.' Additionally, Cruise's outburst came after 30 minutes of trying to get his point across regarding the importance of meeting the required health protocols on a project that had already consumed a significant amount of time and money. 'The person who is raising his voice is quite literally going to work every day and risking his life for a very expressed purpose of keeping the industry alive,' McQuarrie added. He further backed Tom Cruise's way of handling things in the leaked audio. McQuarrie stated, 'That was not a guy pissed off because his latte was cold… He was on the phone every night fighting the good fight to keep things going, to keep things alive. I watched him will that into existence.' Originally reported by Apoorv Rastogi on The post Why Tom Cruise Really Screamed at Mission: Impossible 7 Crew appeared first on Mandatory.
