The journey to glory will begin with the Preliminary Round, played over two legs on the weekends of 19–21 September and 26–28 September 2025. The Confédération Africaine de Football ('CAF') has confirmed the draw procedure for the Preliminary Round and Second Preliminary Round of the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, set to take place on Saturday, 09 August in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. A total of 58 clubs have entered this season's competition, featuring several continental heavyweights and ambitious debutants. The draw will be conducted at Azam Media Studios at 13h00 local time (10h00 GMT) and will be broadcast live on CAF's YouTube channel and through CAF's broadcast partners. This season, teams eliminated in the first two rounds will each receive USD 100,000 to assist with logistical costs, as CAF continues its strategy of encouraging broader participation and competitive balance across the continent. The road to the 2025/26 title will begin with the Preliminary Round between 19–21 September (first leg) and 26–28 September (second leg). With 58 teams registered, six clubs – including former continental champions and recent finalists – have received byes into the Second Preliminary Round based on their CAF Club Rankings. Al Ahly of Egypt head to CAF Clubs' Ranking for 2025, maintaining their number one position after the latest list was released on Friday ahead of the Preliminary stage draws for the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup seasons. The draws for the two CAF Interclub competitions will take on place on Saturday in Dar es Salaam at 13:00 local time (10:00 GMT), with the rankings used to assign teams to pots. They offer a fascinating snapshot of African club football's current power balance, with a mix of continental heavyweights and rising forces from across the continent. Al Ahly retain their place at the summit with 78 points, underlining their status as Africa's most successful club in both history and recent performance, having lifted the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League trophy in four of the last six seasons. They are followed by South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns (62 points), who have become a dominant force in Southern Africa and perennial challengers for continental glory. Tunisia's Espérance Sportive de Tunis (57) sit third, maintaining North Africa's long-standing influence in the CAF competitions. The top five is rounded out by Morocco's RS Berkane (52), who lifted the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup last season, and the team they beat in the final, Simba SC of Tanzania (48), the highest-ranked East African club. Egypt's influence is further emphasised by TotalEnergies CAF Champions League holders Pyramids FC (6th, 47 points) and Zamalek SC (7th, 42), while Morocco also boasts Wydad AC (8th, 39) and Raja CA (joint 15th, 30) inside the top tier. Algeria's USM Alger (9th, 37) and CR Belouizdad (10th, 36) lead the charge for their country. Some clubs have shown good progress in recent years to rise up the rankings. A total of 62 teams will contest the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, while 58 will take part in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup – the largest combined entry ever seen in CAF's Interclub competitions. CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has announced a significant improvement in the financial support from USD 50 000 to USD 100 000 to clubs participating in the Preliminary Rounds. The draw will take place on Saturday 09 August, 2025 at 13h00 local time (10h00 GMT) at Azam Media Studios in Dar Es Salaam and will be broadcast live on CAF's YouTube channel and partner networks across Africa and the globe. The 2025/26 campaign will feature a glittering cast of former champions, modern powerhouses and ambitious newcomers, promising a season of drama, passion and unforgettable moments. Al Ahly of Egypt, the most decorated club in the competition's history, return alongside their compatriots Pyramids FC, the defending champions. Côte d'Ivoire's illustrious duo ASEC Mimosas and Stade Abidjan are also back in the hunt, as are Algeria's storied JS Kabylie, Moroccan heavyweights AS FAR and RS Berkane – the latter holders of the CAF Confederation Cup. South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates add even more prestige to a line-up dripping with history. In the TotalEnergies Confederation Cup, Egyptian titans Zamalek stand out among a diverse field of contenders ready to write their names into the continental record books. The journey to glory will begin with the Preliminary Round, played over two legs on the weekends of 19–21 September and 26–28 September 2025. The Preliminary Draw will be conducted on Saturday, 09 August at 13h00 local time (10h00 GMT) and will be LIVE on CAF's YouTube Page and also CAF's broadcast partners. Azam Media, CAF's strategic partner in the region, will host the Draw in its studios – once again building from the previous success of hosting draws in TV studios. CAF has previously hosted the draws at SuperSport and beIN Sport studios – both key partners in the growth and development of the Interclub together with Canal+. East Africa continues to show tremendous growth in the accumulative audiences in both the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
