Rideshare driver arrested after alleged sexual assaults in York
A rideshare driver has been charged after two people were sexually assaulted earlier this week, Toronto police said. The incident happened Monday near Weston Road and Eglinton Avenue W. after two female victims ordered a rideshare, police said in a news release Saturday. When they arrived at their destination, they got out of the vehicle, and the rideshare driver followed them into a nearby lobby. The driver allegedly sexually assaulted both victims and left the area in his vehicle, a purple Toyota Rav 4, police said. A 30-year-old man from Toronto was arrested and charged on Wednesday with two counts of sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Police said they are concerned there may be more victims, and anyone with information is asked to contact Toronto police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Cole Burston Toronto police say a rideshare driver has been charged after two women were allegedly sexually assaulted in city's west end earlier this week. In a news release issued Saturday, officials say officers responded to a call for a sexual assault in the Weston Road and Eglinton Avenue West area on Monday. Police say two female passengers exited a rideshare vehicle at their destination when the driver followed them into a nearby building lobby. 'The driver sexually assaulted both victims and left the area in his vehicle," police wrote, adding that the vehicle is a purple Toyota Rav 4. As a result of their investigation, police say on Wednesday 30-year-old Mohamed Abdulmalik Babiker, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault. None of the charges have been tested in court but police say he is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 25. Police say they are 'concerned' that there may be more victims. Anyone with information is asked to come forward and contact investigators or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

WRPS investigate distraction theft in Waterloo

Police received a report of a theft Wednesday around 7:30 the area of Amos Avenue and Vogel Place. A female was walking home when unknown suspects approached her. 'A distraction was committed and the victim's jewelry was stolen while suspects remained in a vehicle,' police said in a news release. Police said an unknown man and unknown woman were in the vehicle described as a newer model Toyota Rav4. Police included an image of the vehicle believed to be involved. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Jewelry stolen in Waterloo distraction theft

Police said they received a report about a theft in the Amos Avenue and Vogel Place area on Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. They were told a female victim as walking home when she was approached by two unknown suspects in a newer model Toyota Rav 4. Police said the suspects, a male and a female, distracted the victim and stole her jewelry without leaving the vehicle.
