The 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss Makes a Strong Case for Off-Road Electric Trucks

Off-roading and electric trucks have generally been a mixed bag, but one automaker plans to rectify that for the 2026 model year. The Chevrolet Silverado EV is a top contender among electric trucks, but a new trim level will take the American manufacturer's pickup off the beaten path like never before. Much like on the Colorado and Silverado pickups, the Trail Boss trim provides consumers interested in a Silverado EV with a model dedicated to off-roading, and plenty of range to boot. "The Silverado EV Trail Boss delivers similar capability expected with other Chevy Trail Bosses," said Joe Roy, chief engineer for the Silverado EV. "It's an impressive truck that will meet the needs of our customers looking to get off-trail and still have all the features customers have come to love about Silverado EV, including range and off-road power." The Chevrolet Silverado EV is already plenty capable and customizable, with three trims and battery packs to choose from. For the 2026 model year, Chevrolet is retiring the RST trim, with the Trail Boss taking its place atop the lineup. The Trail Boss model offers a higher level of capability in off-road conditions, with 24% higher ground clearance than the standard Silverado EV. Terrain mode is exclusive to the Trail Boss trim, providing drivers with more control over torque and traction at low speeds. While Sidewinder mode might seem ideal for parallel parking over all else, the system could prove useful in off-road adventures. Sidewinder mode turns all four wheels in the same direction, allowing the truck to move diagonally, albeit at low speeds. That can be especially useful if you happen to get stuck on the trails. When equipped with the Max Range battery pack, the Silverado EV Trail Boss boasts up to 725 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque, with the capability to tow up to 12,500 lbs. and haul 2,100 lbs. The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss features several trim-exclusive features that help the electric truck look the part while adding a touch more versatility. In addition to a two-inch lift, the EV rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch all-terrain tires complemented by a high-angle approach front fascia. The off-road electric pickup has a 19.2-degree breakover angle, 25.1-degree departure angle, and a total of 10 inches of ground clearance. Red front tow hooks add to the truck's utility, and a unique interior matches the athletic aesthetic. The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV comes in three trim levels, with the base Work Truck (WT) starting at $54,895 MSRP. At that price, the Silverado EV boasts up to 286 miles of range, while upgrading to the Extended battery pack boosts range to 424 miles. Opting for the Max battery pack increases the Silverado EV WT's range to 493 miles on a single charge, but it'll cost you $76,295 MSRP. Regardless of the battery pack, the Silverado EV WT features 510 horsepower. When equipped with the standard battery pack, the base Silverado EV WT produces 490 lb-ft of torque, while upgrading the battery increases torque to 580 lb-ft. The LT trim starts at $62,995 MSRP and features a 283-mile range. The mid-tier Extended battery increases range to 410 miles on a single charge. When equipped with the Max battery, the Silverado EV LT can go up to 478 miles, but it'll cost you $91,295. In terms of power, the LT-Max battery combination tops out at 760 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque. The Trail Boss trim tops the lineup and starts at $72,095 MSRP. Unlike in the WT and LT models, the Trail Boss comes with a standard Extended battery pack and a 410-mile range. Upgrading to the Max battery increases range to 478 miles to the tune of $88,695 MSRP. Regardless of trim level, all Silverado EV models feature up to 10.2 kW of off-board power. A 17.7-inch infotainment display comes standard on all three trim levels, as does an 11-inch driver information display. The LT and Trail Boss trims are available with a multi-flex midgate and WOW mode (Wide Open Watts) that maximizes performance. The Chevrolet Silverado EV also features DC fast charging up to 350 kW, with the capability to charge up to 100 miles in 10 minutes. Electric trucks offer a blend of innovation, capability, and performance, but not all models can compete with the best. Ford and Chevrolet are iconic in the American pickup scene, and their legacy in truck manufacturing is unmatched. While there are other emerging automakers making steady progress, Chevrolet and Ford are still the truck segment's fiercest rivals. The base Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $62,995 MSRP. At that price, the F-150 Lightning XLT features dual electric motors that generate 452 horsepower and a towing capacity that tops out at 7,700 lbs. when properly equipped. As far as range goes, the F-150 Lightning XLT can travel an EPA-estimated 240 miles on a single charge. At its most capable, the F-150 Lightning Lariat features 580 horsepower, a 320-mile range, and a 10,000-lb. maximum towing capacity. That versatility will cost you just shy of $77,000, though. By all accounts, the Chevrolet Silverado EV has the F-150 Lightning on the ropes. Not only does Chevy's electric pickup undercut Ford's offering by $8,100, but it also offers 286 miles of range and 510 horsepower in base form. With the introduction of the Trail Boss trim, the Chevy Silverado EV tacks on another win over the F-150 Lightning, which lacks a dedicated off-road model. The base Trail Boss model starts at $72,095 with 625 horsepower and a 410-mile range. Electric trucks have come a long way in just a few years, and with a range nearing 500 miles on a single charge, the Chevrolet Silverado EV may end up leading its segment for years to come. The introduction of the Trail Boss trim marks another major milestone for Chevy's electric truck, with versatility that only a few rivals can match. At this point, there's little doubt that the American automaker's continued innovation is raising the standards as to what consumers can expect in an electric pickup. 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss First Look: An Electric Rough Rider

Driving silently through desert and backwoods near you soon is the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss, a new Silverado EV variant ready for nearly whatever you can throw at it. A retuned and lifted suspension, bigger tires, a different front bumper and more work to make the all-electric Chevy pickup eager to drive on the roads less traveled. Let's take a deeper look to see what else Chevrolet has to offer on this off-road-ready EV truck. 0:00 / 0:00 Hinted during the 2025 Mint 400 off-road race, the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss comes from the modern lineage of Trail Boss models, offering off-road parts that aren't too extreme for the daily driver. Here, that translates to a new front fascia that allows the all-electric Silverado to approach trail obstacles much easier, garnering a new 31.6 degrees of approach angle over the standard 21.7 degrees of the more street-focused Silverado EVs. You'll also gain a pair of red-painted tow hooks in case you need to winch your way out of deep mud or help a buddy get out of the same predicament. The 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss also gains more ground clearance than the standard version. This is achieved by a combination of a two-inch lift and 35-inch diameter (LT285/75R18 metric spec) all-terrain tires on Trail Boss–specific 18-inch wheels. This gives the more rugged all-electric Chevy truck 10.04 inches of ground clearance over the 8.9 inches of the regular versions. This new lift and tire combo necessitated a new rebound control for the dampers, making them unique to the Trail Boss. Inside, the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss features a unique interior with auxiliary switches for custom lights and other accessories that need switch gear inside. Additionally, the Trail Boss gains access to an exclusive Terrain mode for low-speed off-road driving, adding additional control by unlocking a sharper turning four-wheel-steering versus the normal modes for increased maneuverability. The Trail Boss also gets Sidewinder capability for diagonal driving in all modes, but still at low speeds. The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss will come standard with the bigger Extended Range battery pack good for up to 410 miles of driving while the larger Max Range battery pack will be offered as an option for up to 478 miles of range. The Max Range pack will also unlock more power and torque with up to 725 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque versus the Extended Range pack's 625 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque from its dual-motor AWD system. The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss will be available this summer with the Extended Range battery pack starting at $72,095 and the Max Range pack starting at $88,695. 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Full Lineup Pricing

Chevy expands 2026 Silverado EV lineup with Trail Boss addition

The 2026 Chevy Silverado EV is going off road — way off road — with the addition of the Trail Boss trim to the electric pickup's lineup. The electric version of the automaker's popular off-road trim, Trail Boss offers more capability and — insanely — even more range for the already class-leading Silverado EV. The upgraded electric truck has 2-inches of extra lift for more clearance while grinding gravel and climbing boulders, including 35-inch all-terrain tires and 18-inch wheels. Despite the added height, the Trail Boss will get a staggering GM-estimated range of 478 miles if you opt for the max range battery. And in terms of maneuverability, Sidewinder mode enables all four tires to turn in the same direction for diagonal driving. It sounds similar to the Silverado's sister truck, GMC's Hummer EV with its Crab Walk and King Crab diagonal driving features. But Sidewinder is also available to the RST trim, so what else is cool about Trail Boss? How about a trim-exclusive Terrain mode, which offers additional control while traversing uneven trails at low speeds. Compared to other drive modes, Terrain unlocks sharper 4-wheel steer, giving drivers better ability to control torque and traction at low speeds. Speaking of power, the Trail Boss version of the Silverado EV will put out 725 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque when combined with the max range battery. That battery also offers a max towing capacity of 12,500 lbs along with a 2,100 payload capacity. Of course, you should expect some range loss while towing heavy loads. Chevy is also dialing up the tech, offering enhanced Super Cruise with hands-free highway driving on both the Trail Boss and LT trims of the truck. The driver assist feature is also available while towing. The automaker is also lowering the base price for the Silverado EV to $54,895, including destination charges, which is down from the previous base price of $57,095. The interior features a 17.7 inch center touchscreen alongside an 11-inch instrument gauge, which now comes standard on the Work Truck for the first time. But the Trail Boss will run a lot higher, with the extended range version starting at $72,095 and the max range blasting off at $88,695. What, you thought all that extra range would be cheap?

The Silverado EV Trail Boss Has Enough Range for Real Off-Roading

Electric off-roaders are a tough sell. Most of them simply don't have the range or capability to get you where you really need to go. Chevrolet aims to ease those worries with the new Silverado EV Trail Boss. Let's start with the most important detail: The range. The Silverado EV Trail Boss has an EPA-estimated 410 miles of range with the Extended battery pack (which comes standard on this trim), or a whopping 478 miles of range by GM's estimate with the Max battery pack. The Extended battery pack charges at 300 kilowatts on a DC fast charger, while the Max does 350 kilowatts. Photo by: Chevrolet Granted, most casual off-roaders or overlanders won't get anywhere near those numbers on a typical day on the trail. But now, the Silverado EV Trail Boss should, in theory, be able to tackle some of America's best long-distance off-road trails—like the 414-mile Dalton Highway in Alaska, for example—on a single charge. There's also plenty of power on tap, with 725 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque from the Silverado's dual electric motors. With the Max pack, the Silverado EV Trail Boss can tow 12,500 pounds and haul up to 2,100 pounds of payload in its bed. Model Max Range Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss 478 Miles Rivian R1S 410 Miles GMC Hummer EV 381 Miles Subaru Solterra 227 Miles But that impressive range will only take you so far. Thankfully, the Trail Boss has the right equipment for when the going really gets tough. Chevrolet fitted the Silverado EV Trail Boss with a 2.0-inch lift over the standard EV, which yields a 24-percent increase in ground clearance all around. The Silverado's coil suspension is tuned with a special rebound control system specifically for off-road use, similar to what the company currently offers on its ZR2 range of trucks . The slimmed front fascia and bumper were designed with approach angles in mind, and the standard 35-inch all-terrain tires should have no problem clawing through mud and dirt. With that, the Silverado EV Trail Boss has a pretty impressive approach angle of 31.6 degrees, a breakover angle of 19.2 degrees, and a departure angle of 25.1 degrees. Still, the Rivian R1T is better in every measure—35.5, 25.4, and 30.0 degrees. Photo by: Chevrolet Photo by: Chevrolet An exclusive Terrain mode sharpens up the Silverado's four-wheel steering system and low-speed torque management, while the Sidewinder mode—which extends to all versions of the Silverado EV—should help in especially tricky situations. Sidewinder mode allows all four wheels to turn in the same direction at once, moving the truck diagonally. The Trail Boss also comes with custom visual touches that help it stand out from the rest of the range, like special badging and red tow hooks in the front bumper. The base 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck starts at $54,895 with the $2,095 destination fee included. The Silverado EV Trail Boss Extended costs $72,095 out of the box, while the Max battery pack option costs $88,695.
