Honda Passport TrailSport Drives Vast Majority Of SUV's Sales
The combination of the Honda badge and butch off-road looks is proving to be irresistible. This Is Promising News For The Future CR-V TrailSport Honda may not have a dedicated off-road, body-on-frame SUV to match the likes of Toyota's Land Cruiser or 4Runner, but if the new Passport TrailSport's sales figures are any indication, it doesn't matter. Even though it's still a crossover under the skin, the Passport TrailSport's rugged upgrades and masculine looks have completely won over buyers. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:10 2025 Ford Maverick: 4 reasons to love it, 2 reasons to think twice Watch More Looking at Honda's May 2025 sales, the new-generation Passport sold 5,480 units, up 74% relative to May 2024. But the figure that really stands out is this one: Of all Passport sales, a whopping 76% are for the TrailSport versions of the SUV. 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport — Source: Honda TrailSport's Higher Price Not A Deterrent Looking at the 2026 Honda Passport lineup, the four most expensive trims are all TrailSport models, with prices ranging between $48,450 and $53,650. The less specialized RTL models begin at $44,750, but only 24% of buyers chose one of these last month. All TrailSports feature the following upgrades over the RTL variants: All-terrain tires Off-road tuned suspension Underbody skid plate LED TrailSport amber daytime running lights Trail hitch with harness and hitch panel High visibility recovery hooks TrailSport all-season floor mats Despite all the extra equipment, the TrailSports have the same 8.3 inches of ground clearance as RTL models, along with the same approach/departure angles. You also get the same drive modes for trail/snow/sand across the lineup. So, while the TrailSports are better vehicles for light camping expeditions, they aren't serious off-roaders in the vein of a Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler. Under the hood, the Passport TrailSport retains the same 3.5-liter V6 found in other Passports. This trusted powertrain delivers 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. All Passports get standard all-wheel drive and a ten-speed automatic transmission. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Passport TrailSport's Success Bodes Well For Upcoming CR-V TrailSport In late April, Honda announced that it would be expanding the TrailSport sub-brand to the compact CR-V Hybrid. This will be the first time that a Honda SUV combines the TrailSport upgrades with an efficient hybrid powertrain. The CR-V TrailSport Hybrid will come with all-terrain tires, standard all-wheel drive, a more rugged front-end look with a silver skid garnish, and black exterior trim elements. The cabin will be jazzed up with amber lighting to match the orange badging dotted around the exterior. Upon the reveal of the CR-V TrailSport, Honda said that TrailSport models make up 20% of all Passport, Pilot, and Ridgeline sales combined. Based on the Passport TrailSport's May sales, it looks like that number will only increase when the rugged CR-V arrives at dealers this spring. 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport — Source: Honda Off-Road Crossover Trims Are All The Rage Right Now Specialized off-road trims are increasingly popular for modern, family-friendly crossovers, even if most of these vehicles will never see an off-road trail. Over at Hyundai, XRT-badged models feature similar upgrades to Honda's TrailSport models, including the Tucson and Palisade. Subaru has its own Wilderness range of SUVs, but these go a step further, with more ground clearance than standard variants. The Wilderness treatment has already been applied to the Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback. We anticipate demand for such models will continue. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile

2026 GMC Terrain First Drive Review: Stretching Upmarket
GMC engineers said they tuned the Terrain AT4's steering and suspension to be sportier than in the other models, but with taller tire sidewalls on smaller wheels, the AT4 feels very similar to the Denali: comfortable and a little choppy over broken pavement. The only major difference is hydraulic bump stops so the AT4 can soften hard impacts that might happen on off-road trails. The Grabber all-terrain tires provide less on-road grip than the Continental and Michelin all-seasons that come on the 19-inch and 20-inch wheels, but they'll do their best work in the mud and dirt. These tires proved exceptional at digging in for traction during recent off-road drives of the Honda Passport TrailSport and Ford Expedition Tremor, so they'll do the job here as well. However, GMC doesn't give the tires help in the form of locking center or rear differentials to find traction when a wheel is off the ground or the surfaces differ under different wheels. The AT4 also doesn't offer forward camera views for off-roading, crawl control, or exotic features like disconnecting sway bars or the raised ride height of an air suspension. The Terrain AT4 will get you to the campsite or the trailhead, but it's not an off-road hobbyist's choice. Should you take your Terrain AT4 off-road, however, activating the Terrain mode will act as a one-pedal driving mode to control your speed up and down hills.

Here's How Much the First Off-Road-Focused Honda CR-V Costs
Eagerly awaiting the official price of the 2026 CR-V? Okay, there might not be legions of fans holding their breath here, but the '26 model year sees the introduction of the CR-V family's first-ever off-road-focused model, the CR-V Hybrid TrailSport. And now we know how much that version, along with the rest of the lineup is going to cost. While new standard features and a new trim do bring value, prices across the lineup rise. 0:00 / 0:00 According to Car and Driver, the base price of the 2026 Honda CR-V—the non-hybrid LX trim—rises to $32,315, an $865 increase versus the 2025 model. You'll also find that the 2026 EX non-hybrid model sees nearly the same increase, costing $34,545 ($845 more than 2025) while the richest non-hybrid, the EX-L, now costs $36,795, only $445 more than the previous model year. Hybrid power enters the 2026 Honda CR-V lineup in the Sport trim, which carries a new price of $37,025 and bumps the entry-level cost of electrification by $1,025 versus 2025. The Sport L is the next trim level up and it's now $40,120—a bump of $1,120 over 2025—and the trim topping Sport Touring is now $43,645—a $1,195 premium over the 2025 Honda Sport Touring. Of course, the big news is the new-for-2026 Honda CR-V Trailsport, the off-road focused version of the popular hybrid crossover. It curiously skips many of the key upgrades found in Honda's other TrailSport models, including a suspension lift, trail rash guards, and more. Instead, the 2026 CR-V Trailsport is just a CR-V with unique wheels and Continental CrossContact ATR all-terrain tires. Honda kinda, sorta priced it accordingly, slotting the CR-V TrailSport ahead of the Sport L with a price of $40,195, but not at the top of the line like in other TrailSport models. You're paying $75 more for what is, ostensibly, an appearance package and why we still question the use of the Trailsport naming here. We'll add that while these numbers are being reported by Car and Driver, Honda has not officially released pricing for the 2026 CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, and CR-V Hybrid Trailsport. We've asked Honda for the official numbers and will update this story when we get them.

2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid's New TrailSport Model Starts at $40,195
The 2026 Honda CR-V's price starts at $32,315 for the nonhybrid base model and rises to $37,025 for the entry-level CR-V Hybrid. The new off-road-friendly TrailSport is hybrid-only and priced at $40,195. Other updates to the 2026 CR-V include adding a 9.0-inch touchscreen and a wireless phone charger to every trim. Apart, the CR-V and the CR-V Hybrid are Honda's first and third bestselling models. Together, they dominate the rest of the lineup. Late last month, Honda revealed the 2026 versions of the CR-V and the CR-V Hybrid, which the automaker hopes will keep up those sales trends. And now we have pricing for the full lineup. CR-V Prices The gas-only CR-V lineup is evenly staggered and starts at $32,315 for the base LX trim before moving up to $34,545 for the EX model. The EX-L is the nonhybrid range-topper, and it starts at $36,795. Moving to the hybrid lineup, things get slightly more expensive. The Sport and Sport L carry starting prices of $37,025 and $40,120, respectively. With a $40,195 price, the new TrailSport model is situated just above the Sport L trim. Finally, the Sport Touring model sits at the top of the lineup and starts at $43,645. View Interior Photos Honda All 2026 CR-V trims now come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a wireless charging pad for your smartphone. Every model also comes with a 9.0-inch central touchscreen, which is 2.0 inches larger than the outgoing screen. The gas-powered EX-L and every hybrid (except for the Sport) also get a new 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster. In addition to the added tech, Honda also tweaked the CR-V's all-wheel-drive system for 2026. Below nine mph, the car's traction control will now detect slippage under braking and will send power to the wheels that have more grip. Honda says the new models will start arriving in dealerships this spring, so they should reach your local dealer's inventory any day now. Jack Fitzgerald Associate News Editor Jack Fitzgerald's love for cars stems from his as yet unshakable addiction to Formula 1. After a brief stint as a detailer for a local dealership group in college, he knew he needed a more permanent way to drive all the new cars he couldn't afford and decided to pursue a career in auto writing. By hounding his college professors at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he was able to travel Wisconsin seeking out stories in the auto world before landing his dream job at Car and Driver. His new goal is to delay the inevitable demise of his 2010 Volkswagen Golf. Read full bio

2026 Honda CR-V Updated, TrailSport & Sport Touring Unveiled!
The CR-V gets rowdy With some of the best sales numbers in the segment, the Honda CR-V is already wildly popular, but there's always room for improvement. One of the issues some had with the CR-V was its lack of off-road capability. Sure, it's in a class that is not meant for serious off-road athleticism, but even for light off-highway journeys, the CR-V never shines. 0:04 / 0:09 Thinking about buying a Toyota RAV4? These 5 rivals might change your mind Watch More 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport Honda has recently proven that it can take a soft-roader, like the Passport or Pilot, and make it capable of mid-level off-roading. That's especially true for the all-new, upcoming CR-V, which has one of the most advanced all-wheel drive (AWD) systems on a crossover. In its 'TrailSport' guise, Honda sprinkled some rugged-looking garnish and a new Ash Green Metallic paint, bringing an off-road upgrade to the SUV complete with the swagger of an adventurer. The base model 2026 Honda CR-Vs come with a turbocharged 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). These models are available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive. The hybrid model comes with a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine connected to two electric motors for a combined output of 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Honda hasn't released the EPA numbers, but it expects the totals to be very close to the 2025 models, with the exception of the TrailSport, given its heavier, larger tires. What's new for 2026? All 2026 CR-Vs get a larger 9-inch touchscreen with wireless charging, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The higher EX-L, Sport-L, TrailSport, and Sport Touring trims also get a bigger 10.2-inch full-digital instrument display. There are three turbo non-hybrid trims: LX, EX, and EX-L, while the four hybrid trims include Sport Hybrid, the new TrailSport Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid, and the range-topping Sport Touring Hybrid. Honda has also beefed up the traction management system in its AWD models, allowing all of them to better tackle the dirt regardless of whether they're the new TrailSport or not. 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport What is the 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport Hybrid? Honda has finally added the TrailSport name to the 2026 CR-V, and it looks pretty cool. Honda says they improved off-road performance in all of the new AWD CR-V models, including the new TrailSport Hybrid. This improvement, called 'Real Time All-Wheel Drive with Intelligent Control,' shoves even more torque to the wheel that has grip, so even if two wheels are suspended, power will go to the two that remain on terra firma. This is based on the traction control system working with the braking system to halt the spinning, ineffective wheel and allow power to the one that has traction. And yes, you can only get the TrailSport trim with the hybrid powertrain. I have a feeling that, if the take rate is high, Honda may build a non-hybrid version as well. 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport The TrailSport also benefits from Continental CrossContact ATR all-terrain tires (235/60R18). I've off-roaded the Pilot TrailSport with a similar tire, and they were remarkably competent. It worked well in soft sand, mud, and on the highway. The rest of the 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport mainly gets special paint, trim, and some interior upgrades. The uniquely styled front fascia with a plastic silver skid garnish gives it that rugged off-road look manufacturers have been going for, along with a piano black rear spoiler and black door handles. All the window surrounds are blacked out as well, and orange TrailSport badges grace the grille and tailgate. The unique and macho-looking 18-inch wheels are coated in Shark Gray paint, which pairs well with the aforementioned exclusive Ash Green Pearl paint. 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport The interior trim is lined with the same orange-colored stitching and piping as the badge, while the front seats have 'TrailSport' stitched into the headrests, with similarly styled floor mats. Even the seatbelts carry that orange color. Some of the materials, including the seating material, are also unique. According to Honda, there is amber ambient lighting in the footwells, overhead console, door handle pocket, door tray, and cup-holders. The 2026 Honda CR-V Sport Touring keeps things on the pavement 2023 Honda CR-V Sport Touring — Source: James Riswick Unlike the rugged-looking TrailSport, the Sport Touring has a slightly more urban and luxurious feel to it, which is one of the reasons it's at the top of the lineup. Aside from a leather interior and unique 19-inch wheels, the Sport Touring gets an 'Individual' drive mode setting. This allows for more customization of characteristics like throttle response and steering assist, through saving the driver's choices, as opposed to only selecting from preset drive mode settings. Sport Touring models also get a unique screen with Google built-in and a complimentary three-year data plan, as well as a Bose Premium Sound System with 12 Speakers. Final thoughts The 2026 CR-V will arrive at dealers this spring, but pricing, EPA numbers, and a few other details have yet to be announced. In terms of pricing, we do know that Honda is placing the CR-V TrailSport between the Sport Hybrid and the Sport L Hybrid. If we are to use the 2025 models as a gauge, it looks like it will be somewhere under the Sport L Hybrid's $37,650. That's provided that all of the pricing stays about the same for the 2026 model. I am very curious to see if Honda managed to make the CR-V TrailSport something special. Sure, it won't be as capable as their Passport TrailSport, but I suspect it will be much better than the current CR-Vs. I just hope it's as fun to drive as it looks.
