K-Electric proposes formula for loadshedding-free Karachi
Listen to article K-Electric has proposed a formula to eliminate electricity load-shedding in the metropolitan city. Three hundred out of 2,129 feeders in the metropolis account for 87% of power losses, which is the main reason for blackouts, KE's CEO Moonis Alvi said while speaking to a delegation of the Council of Economic and Energy Journalists (CEJ) on Saturday. 'If the government takes over these 300 feeders and manages the internal electricity distribution in these areas, K-Electric will be much closer to making Karachi load-shedding-free,' Alvi said, adding that KE is ready to supply electricity to these 300 feeders, but the responsibility for bill recovery from these areas would rest with the government. CEO Alvi claimed that 70% of Karachi is already exempt from load-shedding. K-Electric is working on introducing new technology to prevent power pilferage from feeders. He warned that any tampering with PMTs (Pole-Mounted Transformers) could lead to technical faults that may take up to three days to fix. He reiterated the offer to the government to help manage the internal electricity system in these areas. The KE CEO further stated that K-Electric's Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) will not adversely affect ordinary consumers. Rather, it will encourage foreign investment in the city's power supply system. 'The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority will review the MYT each year based on the level of investment,' he added. Alvi said that implementation of the MYT could make Karachi up to 90% load-shedding-free by 2030. By then, the number of power consumers in the metropolis is expected to reach five million, and power transmission will increase to 5,000MW. Responding to a question, Alvi said that KE is ready to supply electricity to captive power industries by connecting them to the grid. "We are prepared to follow the agreed timeline with the government and stakeholders for this transition." Industrial activity in Karachi has increased over the past few months, leading to a rise in electricity demand, he added.

The Cliche hitmaker, who shares the baby with actress Megan Fox, was expected to present during the music awards show but he revealed to E! News that he was leaving after the red carpet to take care of his unwell daughter. "She has a little bit of a fever," he told the publication at the Las Vegas event. "So I'm gonna just walk the carpet and go back, you know what I mean, and handle my business. Give her my pheromones, and let her heal up." MGK, real name Colson Baker, noted that their daughter is doing "great" otherwise and added, "I was born to be a dad. Yeah, it's my purpose." The musician, who has a 15-year-old daughter named Casie from a previous relationship, also gushed over the baby in an interview with Access Hollywood. "I'm just so elated, It's just awesome," he said about being a father again. "They smell so good... I was just meant to be a dad." MGK announced the arrival of his and Megan's first child together on 27 March. The former couple, who called off their engagement last year, haven't clarified their relationship status but it has been reported that they're no longer together. His red carpet appearance comes shortly after the Transformers actress called the pregnancy "unplanned but a happy surprise" on her Instagram Stories. The Jennifer's Body star also shares sons Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, eight, with her ex-husband Brian Austin Green.

"I Sounded Funny": YouTube CEO Neal Mohan Opens Up About His Schooling In Lucknow
Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath recently engaged in a conversation with YouTube CEO Neal Mohan on his latest episode of his podcast 'People by WTF'. The two discussed a range of topics, from the impact of social media on politics to tips for cracking the platform's algorithm. Apart from the serious topics, Mr Mohan also reflected on his early years in Lucknow, his childhood in the US and how moving to America shaped his interest. During the podcast, Mr Mohan shared that he was born in India to a father who had studied at IIT. At a young age, he moved to the United States when his father was pursuing a PhD. "So when my parents were grad students was when I was born," Mr Mohan said, adding that he spent most of his childhood in the US. Mr Mohan and his family then moved back to India in 1986. He joined Lucknow's St Francis College, where he spent five years. He then returned to the US to pursue electrical engineering at Stanford University. "I grew up on Transformers and Star Wars and all of that," Mr Mohan said. The YouTube chief revealed that moving back to Lucknow in Seventh grade was challenging for him, given his lack of fluency in Hindi. "When growing up in the US, I loved baseball, I loved, you know, Transformers, etc, etc. And then coming here, where you know, I sounded funny. I didn't have, sort of like, those immediate things to connect with people on," he revealed. Further, Mr Mohan said he was always interested in technology, even as a teenager. "My background is I am a technologist by training. I've been interested in - let's say, passionate about - technology since I was a really young kid," he told Mr Kamath. "I went to high school in Lucknow. I had a little software startup back in the day, building software for other high school kids and teachers, and so I've always had a deep and abiding interest in technology," he shared. Elsewhere in the podcast, Mr Mohan shared the mantra to be successful on YouTube. He emphasised that YouTube rewards creators who genuinely engage with their audience, rather than those who try to game the algorithm. He explained that building a fanbase on the platform required authenticity. "You're not going to build a fan base if you're not authentic. Fans figure that out very, very quickly," he said. Mr Mohan also highlighted that successful creators thrive because they are passionate about their content, not just their products.
