Roberto Carlos welcomes Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid with hilarious advice as new signing makes first public appearance at Spanish Grand Prix after £10m Liverpool exit
Trent Alexander-Arnold made his first public appearance as a Real Madrid player in style this weekend – attending the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, where he shared a memorable moment with club legend Roberto Carlos. Alexander-Arnold announced last month that he would indeed be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season , bringing an end to a near season-long saga and confirming the worst-kept secret in football. And the move was officially announced this week after Real Madrid elected to pay a £10million fee to complete the move early in order to have the England international in time for the beginning of their Club World Cup campaign later this month. The 26-year-old made his first appearance as a Real player after he was spotted in the VIP paddock at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona on Sunday, where he ran into none other than Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos. The meeting between the past and present of full-back royalty quickly went viral after Carlos was seen offering some tongue-in-cheek advice to the new Bernabeu recruit. 'You only need three words here,' Carlos joked to Trent, patting him on the back. 'Good morning, good night, and my friend… and that's it!' Trent Alexander-Arnold shared a moment with Real Madrid club legend Roberto Carlos Both men laughed as cameras captured the exchange, with Alexander-Arnold clearly enjoying the light-hearted moment with one of the game's greats. The right-back was among a number of England players that attended the Spanish Grand Prix, with the likes of Harry Kane, Jue Bellingham and Bukayo Saka also in attendance. England will play their third game of the Tuchel era next weekend when they take on Andorra in Barcelona at the home of RCD Espanyol. And with the saga surrounding his move away from Liverpool finally having come to an end, Alexander-Arnold will link up with his new team-mates before flying out to the United States in a fortnight to be part of the revamped Club World Cup. The year's tournament features 30 teams for the first time, with Madrid the early favourites to lift the trophy. Madrid get their campaign underway on June 18 when they face a Al-Hilal side featuring the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ruben Neves and Kalidou Koulibaly. They will then face Mexican side Pachuca four days later before rounding out their group against Red Bull Salzburg on June 26.

Photo: Trent Alexander-Arnold links up with Real Madrid legend
Newly-signed Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold this weekend posed for a photo with a legendary ex-member of the defensive ranks in Spain's capital. This, of course, comes ahead of the Englishman's imminent arrival in Spain. Advertisement The name of full-back Alexander-Arnold has dominated the headlines in Madrid for several days now. This comes after the departing Liverpool star's Blancos switch was at last made official, TAA having put pen to paper on a six-year deal at the Santiago Bernabéu. Before linking up with his new teammates with a view to the Club World Cup, though, Alexander-Arnold has been afforded some time away from the pitch, to unwind. The 26-year-old, in turn, made use of the opportunity to attend Sunday's Formula 1 Grand Prix in Spain. And whilst at the track, Alexander-Arnold found himself crossing paths with a once-beloved defender at Real Madrid. Advertisement The player in question? Roberto Carlos. As showcased in the photo below, the new and former Blancos stars were all smiles after bumping into one another earlier this afternoon: Conor Laird – GSFN

The one flaw in Trent Alexander-Arnold that could expose Real Madrid against big teams
The one flaw in Trent Alexander-Arnold that could expose Real Madrid against big teams Real Madrid's signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool is already making waves in football. This transfer feels smart and timely, especially with Xabi Alonso now in charge of the team. The former Bayer Leverkusen boss is known for using full-backs in a very attacking style, unlike Carlo Ancelotti who focused more on defensive discipline. That change in strategy makes Alexander-Arnold the perfect fit. Building on his strength His strengths are clear. Alexander-Arnold sees the game a few steps ahead of most players and has a gift for long-range passing. These are not just qualities you notice once or twice, they are part of his regular game. Advertisement Real Madrid made this very clear in the video they used to introduce him, even highlighting his famous corner kick against Barcelona in 2019, which led to a goal that helped Liverpool knock out the Spanish giants from the Champions League. Trent Alexander-Arnold will be an attacking asset for Real Madrid. (Photo by) Now that Luka Modric will leave after the Club World Cup, Real Madrid need someone reliable for corners and free kicks. Alexander-Arnold can help fill that gap, alongside young star Arda Guler, who also has great skill in dead-ball situations. But Alexander-Arnold offers more than just a good delivery. He is creative and can find passes that others simply do not see. Advertisement Simply put, since 2016, he has provided 64 assists, which is more than any other defender in that time. That stat alone shows just how much he contributes in attack. Other side of TAA that could bring trouble However, there is another side to his game that needs attention. Alexander-Arnold sometimes struggles when facing quick, skillful wingers. His toughest match came in February 2025, when Manchester City's Jeremy Doku dribbled past him 12 times in a single game. That was not only a tough night for him, but it also broke a Premier League record. Furthermore, this has been a consistent weakness. In fact, he was one of the most dribbled-past defenders in the Premier League last season, tied with Joao Gomes and Elliot Anderson. This points to how fast-paced and intense the English league is, but it is also a warning for how he might cope in La Liga's big matches. Advertisement Looking ahead, his real test might come against young talents like Lamine Yamal, who leads Europe in dribbles per game with 4.6. Compare that to Doku's 3.7 and it is clear that Alexander-Arnold will need to improve defensively. Right now, he allows 1.9 successful dribbles per game. For context, Dani Carvajal, who will be his main competition for a starting spot, allows just 0.9. Other top right-backs like Hakimi (1.1) and Reece James (1.0) are also doing better on the defensive side. Still, Alonso has options. If Alexander-Arnold continues to shine in attack but struggles in defence, Real Madrid might need to protect him with an extra midfielder or a tactical shift. While, his powerful long-range shots and incredible passing range are too good to waste, in big matches, the defensive gaps could be risky.

Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool: Arne Slot makes new 'interesting' transfer admission
Arne Slot refused to give much away when asked about Liverpool's potential signing of Jeremie Frimpong. The Reds have been heavily linked with the Bayer Leverkusen right-back in recent days, with reports claiming that they are ready to activate the €35million (£29.5m) release clause in his contract. Advertisement The links to the Dutchman have intensified since Trent Alexander-Arnold publicly announced that he was leaving his boyhood club, with Real Madrid his likely next destination this summer. That has left Slot looking for a new right-sided full-back to compete with academy graduate Conor Bradley. Departing: Arne Slot and Liverpool will say goodbye to Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer (REUTERS) Bradley started ahead of the England international in the newly-crowned champions' 2-2 draw with Arsenal last weekend, with Slot revealing that the Northern Irishman's selection was partly down to Alexander-Arnold's impending departure. Alexander-Arnold was booed by sections of the home support when he came off the bench, and Virgil van Dijk said that the full-back would 'have to deal' with any animosity and negativity thrown his way. Advertisement Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool's trip to Brighton on Monday, Slot was reluctant to be drawn into any details about Frimpong's prospective Merseyside move though admitted the club were 'always looking at interesting players' who could improve his squad. "A boring answer and for a whole season it was about contract extensions and now everyone wants to know who is coming in,' he said. 'We don't talk about it in public until we sign them and then you can ask me all about it. Conor can play [there]; Joe Gomez [too], so it is not like once Trent leaves I don't know what to do. 'But we are always looking at interesting players who can improve our squad." Advertisement Liverpool travel to the south coast for their penultimate fixture of the campaign, and they end the season at home to FA Cup finalists Crystal Palace next weekend. Slot fell short of suggesting that Alexander-Arnold would start against Brighton, saying it was 'quite early to say' what Monday's starting lineup would be.
